I think being able to use logic and reason is different from constantly thinking of what could possibly go wrong. Personally I spend a lot of time thinking of what could go wrong and this been very useful in my job. However, it is possible to use logic and reason for other uses. It is also odten not rational to think of all the things that could possibly go wrong - for instance when you have no control over events. It doesn't stop me doing it though!
I think it is an "innate part of the geek personality". Different people have different personality traits, being the sort of person who literally lies awake at night wondering 'what could possibly go wrong' is very useful if you are designing a chip (for instance). On other areas of life it is not so useful!
I would rather they couldn't search laptops, but I don't understand the argument put forward here. For example, if I had "privileged legal communications" in my suitcase they could still open it, right?
I couldn't find anything on a news site I trust yet, but from the defendants
front page it looks like they are happy! Not that I don't trust slashdot or anything, but a little confirmation is nice...
On my 350d if you set it to continuous shooting and AEB it takes all three shots when you press the shutter button once. But it does put the mirror down between shots, and setting the Mirror Lockup custom function doesn't seem to work well with AEB - there's no way to avoid the mirror going back down between shots.
What might be more fun would be one for the worst OSS developers - there could be categories for least notice taken of user requirements, best flaming of dumb newbie questions on the support forums, most hostile to new developers joining the team...
This is not a problem because dell ships its OS's preactivated. But even if it did not it would not be a problem because the Vista Ultimate and Business licenses give you the right to downgrade to XP pro (Home and Home Premium do not), so MS will activate a copy of XP Pro if you have the right Vista license.
Selling a computer with XP past the Microsoft cutoff date is pretty irresponsible.
This isn't really dell being irresponsible - this is sanctioned by Microsoft. Both the Vista Ultimate and Business licenses give you the right to 'downgrade' to XP Pro. Dell are just helping their customers out with the mechanics of doing the downgrade.
I guess normally cnn could handle a slashdotting, but why add to their woes today? Anyway I couldn't read TFA, the sever was dead. Maybe it's best if other people don't try!
Because for really good audio sound cards inside a computer case are not a good idea
I think this is a bit of a myth put about by the external card makers. There are many pro-level internal sound cards - for instance
this one is very highly respected. (And it should be good for over $1000 for only 4 analog io's!)
If it's like fiber, without it you don't pass anything at all?
Always take your hamster.
Ah, I see. Fair enough!

I always assumed that in this case "Stuff" was a verb.
Yes, especially as in 10 years time it will probably still be Google Health beta.
Another is that they are very quick to cancel passwords due to inactivity
Dude, if you can't be bothered to tell people what you had for breakfast each day maybe twitter's not for you.
It's one small stepping for mankind.
How many people work less than 8 hours?
Is that counting posting on Slashdot, or not?
And, invest my money a bit beter - save, save, save!
Just this old fart's $0.5.
You could have saved 48 cents right there!

Yeah, it's a MS plot to make people's heads explode at the FSF.
The slope is only slippery because of all the poop. More surveillance will fix this.
DO NOT RTFA
I have mod points, but unfortunately there is no +1 Redundant.

I'm too polite to nominate anyone though.

The original story seemed like an overkill reaction.
I think that's what they were worried about.
Is when it is dead!

How much would each extra topping be then? $100,000?
