What if this is a patent to stop Microsoft if they try to make the hardware companies include the ability to ruin the hardware on which a pirated system runs. If such hardware sees the light of day then anyone with a marketshare under 90% won't have any hardware to run their software on.

The phone n95, announced by Nokia, will have 2 miniSD card slots and some MB built in memory. The cost for the phone will probably be like 600 - 700 $ and the cost for one miniSD 4GB card at Sandisk is 134.99 $. This is one example of how a roughly equal phone has a price tag that is close to 1000$.
I have a old Ericsson phone right now. Not one scratch in 2 years. I'm not buying the first gen iPhone and since I live in Sweden I'll have to wait anyway. What am I waiting for? Stable software - bug fixes. The worst problem with iPhone that I can see is that they say that I can't install 3rd party apps?! No apps no buy.:)

I think the fact that Microsoft tries to convert their monopoly on OS'es to monopolies in several other markets by forcing customers to buy somthing or toying with compabilities is a lot more serious than google giving itself a good ad position. That's just affecting the customers a little and they're not forced to buy crap.
How do we priorize? is standards how a browser and a web page should work or how the mostly used browser works? How much can standards be enforced to something that is the most popular?

I think it's stupid to bring votes into a world were copying only takes a fraction of a second and where it's easy to monitor something AND it's easy to control and abuse things if YOU made the system, before you have the technical means to guarantee safety, whether it's for integrity, copying or the ability to have everything checked by independant(i.e. independant, not "independant") inspectors.
For the copying music industry, communities and various other businesses have already presented various ways to help their customers and to fight their customers with copying stuff. For the checking part I think it's possible but I also think it has been proven too many times that many people who are to handle this things don't have a clue about what is what when it comes to computers. About integrity I don't think it matches plain old white paper quite yet.

If a soldier can carry entertainment with him/her without hindering the task that the soldier is ordered to complete I think it should be priorized that the soldier can relax and be comforable since living in a foreign country for some months at diffrent locations shouldn't be that much fun. Yes, but would they have the decryption key? No.. Depending on the encryption used it sould not be a hard issue for them dealing with the fact that they would have everyones documents. If they wanted to deal with it.
What I'd require to use this is for my computer to encrypt it when it sends it over to Google so all google has is some encrypted data. Then when I want the file again Google sends it back to me I can decrypt it. This way the security sjy-rockets and the service becomes a lot more useful.

For an IT-company to change business model or do a lot of diffrent things such as web hosting, hardware sales and software developement might not be wrong. The market of everything computy is very changing and new comers can quickly be the best in the market. To earn money a IT company will likely do one of the following: Trick the customers to buy a bad product. Be the best thing available and still being compatible with a lot of other things AND get well known. Offer superior help and support for other companies who require it for stability of their services. Provide an overall soloution for the customers so they don't have to worry about anything. Just try to stay in many businesses to make them all survive if one of them has a rainy day. And being superior helps. This is just speculations but if you doubt what i wrote please belive the last part.
