I have heard rumors circulating in various TF2 games that grenades will come back once TF2 is out of beta. That said, anyone who claims that usually gets a "OMG thats a lie!" response, which has just as much credibility. Still, with the new Source engine the Spy's hallucinogen grenade has just too many possibilities to not be implemented.
If you were trying to paint the cable companies in a good light, you screwed up by calling them the Microsoft of T.V. (this is Slashdot remember). Oh, and your part about "there is no channel 470" totally blew my mind as I was watching HBO.
Did you really expect a review coming from a Linux site to not favor the open-source option? More importantly, has Slashdot ever given up the chance to post something MS-bashing on account of accuracy?
Even if you own HL2 and Episode 1 already, this Orange box deal isn't a waste. For one, TF2 (which I've been waiting for for about 6 years now) and Portal together should be worth the ~$50, plus you do get Episode 2. Additionally, when you buy Orange box you can give the HL2 and Episode 1 games away to a friend as a gift.
Part of me still thinks the TF2 release will somehow manage to get foiled again. I mean, I remember seeing screenshots for TF2 about 6-5 years ago with a vid detailing what the new sentry gun was like. Then more recently there was some hype before HL2 was even released that showed TF2 in production as more of a military game, the trailer had some tanks and the engi held an MP5 and such. So, now that I've had my hopes up a couple times now for this, it's hard to believe TF2 is finally here...and cel shaded. But, I can't imagine what huge event could stop the release this time (massive climate shift?).
The article said that the big elephant in the room was Windows being readily available through cracks...but to who? Nerds!
Look, probably about 80%+ of the U.S. population has no clue what BitTorrent, or DC++ or even P2P programs even entail, and those are usually how those cracks are obtained. The only pirating software that goes "mainstream" is stuff like Napster or Kazzaa(sp?), easy stuff that specializes in music downloads. The only elephant in the room is that Windows got its big, fat foot in the door first (a long time ago) and most people will likely default to it because they still believe "none of my stuff will work on anything else" or "other OS's [like Linux] take too much to learn."
When Vista was reported to have sold millions of copies a lot of the tech articles sounded surprised. But, dude, Bill Gates got on the freaking Daily Show! What more do you need to see how Windows is able to target the everyday joe America?
Doesn't this paint a different view on why Google is the best company to work for? Maybe the idea behind the free gyms, spas, 3 gourmet meals a day (sushi), etc. was to keep their employees with them instead of trying to break free.
There's already been a few fully electric cars. When I saw that documentary and left the theater to some 100 degree heat (...in Minnesota) I got pissed more people didn't know. There is a good point in the Wikipedia article from GM; that the consumers simply didn't want to but the cars at the time. However, Shell's buying of battery companies and and other Big Oil companies filing for patents regarding battery technology seems just plain evil.
Glad to see GM has finally stepped up to do something practical for the environment and consumer. 640 miles is enough for anyone, and if the car is more expensive it's still cheaper than any experimental fuel cell technology.
I own a Zune, thought it was great the first few days. Then, I started to add artwork to the songs...and the glitches started. Sometimes half an album would show up with artwork and the other half not, other times the album would show up twice with artwork for no reason. In the Zune library it appeared fine but in the player it was all screwy no matter how much I synced.
No real biggie there, but I have a lot of live concerts, most all of which span multiple CDs. In foobar2000, I had already had them all tagged accordingly, but for some reason the Zune just didn't recognize the metadata for it. No substitute field, either. It's really annoying to half to skip 2 tracks every track when listening to WEEN live in Minneapolis.
Still, I thought those were both kinda minor, but then I got to using the Zune for the real reason I bought it: lossless. Long story short I goofed up on reading the specs and the Zune doesn't support lossless. It will even try to cap your 320kbs.mp3/.m4a at 192 and convert it to.wma. But here's the question: Why would a device trying to compete--nay overthrow, the iPod limit its capabilities to anything inferior?? The iPod has its own lossless codec, which is quite good.
All those little things have the marks of typical Microsoft goof-ups and they just stare you in the face when you use the Zune and you hate it more and more.
Hmmm, my guess is we'll see a surprising trend of AARP-endorsed politicians getting elected, now:O.
Good thing I'm too young to vote or I'd care about this shit. Aaaah, sweet, sweet indifference.
Actually, in an episode of Showtime's "Bullshit!" Penn and Teller (mostly Penn) point out that the wording of the second amendment really does clearly state that the right for citizens to own guns is for the government to be afraid of us. However, Chuck Heston and is right wing cronies have turned it into a "right to protect yourself from every other person (read: minority) out to break into your home and kill all y'all"-type amendment.
Only your readers could see a article about Irish censorship and realize its true nature; a soapbox for another Arabs vs. Jews flame war with countless unchecked facts being used to as a check to someone else's enormous ego.
Normal food is tested by the USDA. GM food is tested by the USDA, FDA, and EPA. If anyone has Showtime it would make you a less ignorant person to watch the episode of Bullshit! where they cover this. I think it is also out of DVD...
Using the defence "it hasn't been created until recently so we don't know what will happen" is ridiculous. First off, GM foods have been around for about 30 years. Secondly, we know exactly what happens when Mr. Scientist changes the genes to produce a higher crop yield/resistance to insects/less need for water. The plant then produces more fruit per stalk/isn't attacked by bugs/requires less water so it can grow in arid countries. All of this is saving MILLIONS of people especially in Africa where there is only currently enough arable land to support 66% of its current population. So...are you telling 33% of people on one continent to just "fuck off and die". That's advocating genocide.
I'm also currently reading "In Defense of Anarchism" by Robert Paul Wolff for a philosophy class. Come and get me facisist!

...if the queue for viewing of these publics records gets big, that the files have been slashdotted?
You really think the G-Men at the wheel of this aren't into that?

Why wasn't this "from the chatty-cathy dept."?

NEWSFLASH: Linux has the worst hardware support of any operating system, especially for gaming. So, be prepared to not care about a lot of glitz.

Congrats. Now you're banned/blacklisted. :O
