    If I am not mistaken, the pressure difference your body (14 lb/sqr inch) and space (~0) would cause you to explode almost instantly.

    You are mistaken, 14 lbs/sqr inch really isn't that much pressure when you think about it. You will not explode in vacuum, and you could probably last around 30 seconds or so in a vacuum.

    Evict the Russians if they are not willing or able to pay,

    Unfortunately, it's the Russians that provide the Soyuz spacecraft (the only means for escape if soemthing goes wrong) and the unmanned Progress spacecraft. The ISS could not operate without either of these (especially the Soyuz).

    I think McCoy was a good Doctor. But he had horrible writing.

    There was a time during the McCoy era when I thought the writing was getting pretty good. I don't remember if was in the beginning, middle, or end of his run.

    Anyway, Tom Baker was almost everyone's favourite, and Sylvester McCoy was the worst... Stupid question mark wearing mumble mumble...

    I alway thought Colin Baker was the worst. I rather liked Sylvester McCoy.

    FWIW, I started watching Dr. Who back in the John Pertwee days.

    Weight might not be a big issue once you are actually in space, however, it is a huge issue when it comes to getting there.

    And once you're in orbit weight doesn't matter, but mass still does.

    The posting refers to Taiwan, not mainland China. Taiwan, also known as the "Republic of China", is not the same country as China, also known as the "People's Republic of China". The former is a peaceful democracy, the latter is a belligerent, brutal totalitarian regime.

    To be fair, only recently could Taiwan call itself a democracy. For much of its history, Taiwan was not very democratic at all.

    Unmanned infrastructure work in LEO might be the better way to go, as long as we keep in mind future manned expeditions.

    That's the problem - right now the space station is an end unto itself, essentially rehashing the past stuff that's already been over the past 30 years. And with the cutbacks, that's not likely to change.

    Of course we had a really good "big dumb booster" and abandoned it. Anyone remember the Saturn V and Saturn 1B?
