It's stories like that, that have been fueling the anti-vaxer movement for the last ten years. Science seems to indicate (by MRI or CAT scan studies) that a child's brain can show signs of autism long before there's any noticeable behavioral changes so do I buy that in some cases a child may be developing autism but not showing signs and a round of multiple vaccinations either caused it or sped it up? I honestly don't know but I'm reasonably sure that vaccinations by themselves don't outright cause autism.
I'm the last person to argue that the earth is flat since all evidence is to the contrary but I also think that there are concerns over free speech and that "she does believe that Google could be doing more to stop the spread of scientifically incorrect ideas" she thinks google should do something to suppress idea's or beliefs and that in and of itself should be cause for concern. "Western Digital promises MAMR drives that will hold roughly 16 TB later this year", Western Digital has been so far behind in delivering things it promises I wouldn't count on this in any way. Seagate has been shipping 8tb desktop drives for a while now and Western Digital still doesn't have a 8TB Blue or Black drive listed on their website.
I work for a couple non-profits who've been hit hard by budget cuts; is there a list of what they're trying to get rid of and any way to apply for it even if the non-profit has to pay for shipping it probably would be well worth it for some items?
From what I've read these problems can't be fixed by any kind of bios update. The only mitigations will be through microcode updates to your cpu or updates to your operating system. Also from what I've read Intel does not provide microcode updates for any cpu older than the 6th generation so if you have a 5th generation or older all your going to get is operating system mitigations. I don't use AMD cpu's so you'll have to check what generations of their cpu's have updates available and if you have an older AMD cpu then you're out of luck.
I have any number of friends in technology fields and over the last 10 years I've heard the same story "We had layoffs and I wasn't cut but half my department is gone and now I'm doing the work of three or four people; working an extra 3-4 hours a day (and working at least one weekend a month) and I haven't had a raise in 3 years".
Company's are taking advantage of people like this, making them do the work of three or four people and work substantially more hours while paying them the same and basically saying "Just be glad you have a job!".
I've also found that the quality of the drivers for the USB 2/2.1/3/3.1/ESATA port also matter on how well the eject process works or doesn't. (Intel USB ports with genuine Intel drivers works the best in my experience) I'm still using Windows 8.1 but I'm aware that many hardware vendors of USB 3/3.1 chips don't make drivers for Windows 10 and just rely on the generic Microsoft drivers which I've seen have performance issues and other strange problems.
Another problems I've often seen in Windows 8.1 (but not sure if Windows 10 has the same issue or not) is that some system process locks the drive and prevents an eject command and I've often times waited an hour or more and still can't eject the drive. I've tracked down the process using Process Explorer and killed it and then been able to eject the drive; however a significant number of times that USB port then fails to work until reboot.
All in all I'd have to say that while USB and ESata are great there are still lots of issues that are not resolved when it comes to Windows and removable drives and Intel / Microsoft (and any other chip vendors) have failed to address these lingering problems.

But the biggest on the two Windows Server 2016 that I manage, cumulative updates downloaded with Windows Update definitely have issues installing and more often than not fail, if they fail to install I've found the workaround is to manually download the update from the MS website and install it using the stand alone installer. So far I've found this to work if the Windows update fails.
I mean after all one persons extremist content is another man's right to free speech, if this is something serious then there needs to be some safeguards to prevent legitimate free and protected speech from being targeted
First just because you haven't read the books doesn't make them obscure, the most successful group of books to continue the story of Luke, Leia and Han were a trilogy of three books by Tim Zahn (Heir to the Empire, Dark Force Rising and The Last Command) all three books were New York Times best sellers. And they were among the first books published that continued the story and didn't just flesh out the back story of the characters.
The fact that the people continuing the franchise probably haven't read the books is their loss since if they had they would have come up with something better than the trash they did.
I don't know who you've been talking to but fans of the original trilogy can't stand the new movies for just the reasons I outlined.
The biggest problem that I see with the Last Jedi (and The Force Awakens) are the disparagement of Luke, Han and Leia. Most die hard Star Wars fans have read at least some of the Star Wars books, which show Luke, Leia and Han continuing to be involved with the New Republic that's formed after the Empire falls and Luke going on to become the father of a new Jedi order and a master as great as any that came before him. In The Force Awakens we are aghast that Han basically went back to being a no account smuggler and con man (and left Leia or she kicked him out), Leia for some reason is not in any way associated with the New Republic and Luke was a complete failure as a Jedi Master who let his nephew go over to the dark side and apparently in a fit of despair went to live as a hermit on some uncharted world.
Not that there's anything wrong with characters that have some flaws, but this new series just takes the characters we know and love and tries to tell us that although they had momentary success that in the end they were complete and utter failures. I'm sorry Disney but you've really made a lot of people very angry at the treatment of characters that have become legends in the eyes of the fans.
I mean I understand that cigarettes have been unmasked as truly bad for you and that as a result of the cigarette company's covering up the health hazards for so long they've been forced to do these ads. However if they are now being forced to admit how bad cigarettes are for anyone who smokes doesn't that open them up to additional liability for anyone who can't quite who develops lung cancer?
I don't have Verizon myself but I've worked at lot at houses where Verizon forces you to use their crap router, the wireless on them is not nearly as good as most other major brands and a lot of the functionality like port forwarding etc doesn't seem to work properly. They say you can't replace it because if you do the program guide on their cable boxes doesn't work.
It's really a bad situation and Verizon tech support doesn't have a clue how to fix things or be helpful in any way.
I was using construction as an example but I honestly believe that there are some jobs that men are better suited for than women and some jobs that women are more suited for then men. That's not to say that there aren't exceptions where some men may be as good as a woman at some jobs and visa versa.

Yes, I mean if you ask an AI "Out of these 1,000 candidates which would be the best choice for construction worker" and the 1,000 candidates were an even mix of men and women and the AI picked all men would that be gender bias simply because the AI thinks that for that particular job men make a better choice? A cousin of mine had terminal liver cancer and his son told me the last three months were bad (he didn't want to see any family after a certain point) he was in agony and it was long and drawn out, it's a terrible way to go and I wouldn't wish it on anyone.
Windows 8.1 is a good compromise between 7 and 10, with ClassicShell it works a lot like Windows 7 and any other objections can probably be tweaked to disable those or worked around in some manner. All three of my office computers are running it and they work pretty good.
Over the years how many announcements / articles that promise some revolutionary technology have been talked about on here and yet years later they're still nowhere near being on the market. We're still waiting for those rollable / foldable displays that have been on the horizon for years, the closest that I've seen is a video of an LG prototype at this years CES show, you couldn't even hold it as they only had one and it was behind plastic; no shipping products use it yet.
There have been articles on here before about some university saying they have working nano-tube enhanced capacitors that will replace conventional batteries and promise unlimited and very quick recharges and yet still not on the market. When this gets on the market it'll be a revolution for mobile devices and probably electric cars too since they currently take 6 to 8 hours to charge, the Tesla high power wall charger promises to recharge in 3.5 hours but it's not like you can take that with you on the road.
The book is way too R/X rated in parts to make a good Syfy movie, Childhoods End was reasonably good but this won't translate well to a PG/PG-17 movie but if it was done by HBO / Showtime / Cinemax it could be good.
I was more comparing the company's strategies i.e. deny that a problem exists, do their best to do as few warranty replacements as possible and blame the customer when possible.
I vaguely remember Dell going through something like this except is was bad capacitors that leaked and affected systems blue screen and Dell told the phone support people to "Do everything you can to blame it on the customer" and not to do any warranty replacements.
It's been Microsoft standard operating procedure for a long time, "we'll do what we want and the hell with customer feedback or anything the customers want". I was honestly amazed that they reversed course on the start button removal in Windows 8, the backlash must have been truly historic.
Yes, most of the crew including Wayne were smokers but would it have been as bad without the radiation exposure? Also I read a article a number of years ago (I can't find it right now otherwise I'd post a link) that at least three members of the crew died of cancers not usually associated with smoking such as leukemia and Agnes Moorehead (mostly know as Samantha's mother from Bewitched) died of uterine cancer, again not a type of cancer usually associated with smoking. Susan Hayward (the leading lady) died of brain cancer, Pedro Armendáriz killed himself due to the pain of bone cancer, Wikipedia states that 91 out of a total of 220 people of he cast and crew has had or battled of some form of cancer while 46 have died as a result of it. That's a pretty high percentage.
