Even if HTML5 could do EVERYTHING that flash can do, I'm really not certain I'd want to do it HTML5. Imagine having to code an entire animation. That just doesn't seem like fun at all.
it has been measured surging skyward as fast as 121 cm (47.6 inches) in a 24-hour period,[6] and can also reach maximal growth rate exceeding one meter (39 inches) per hour for short periods of time
I'm not so sure I'd agree with you on all your points. Yes, FWD cars are more stable in making turns. Well, less oversteer that is. The only time you'd possibly be concerned is if you have a high torque FWD car with out an LSD that would possibly induce torque steer. However, when it comes to RWD cars, accelerating into a turn is very rarely good. For instance, in all forms of road course racing, you never want to accelerate into the turn because a) that means you're already going too slow to do a good lap time and b) you run the serious possibility of oversteering and spinning out your car. You should be accelerating out of your turns to maintain the highest exit velocity and also because the turn is widening vs. sharpening, you run less risk of oversteering and spinning out the car. Of course, this is dealing with road course racing which deals with cars producing lateral forces nearly exceeding the maximum of the tire compound. Switching lanes on a freeway might not be as risky but I'd imagine it to have similar concepts.
thats not always true. accelerating in a sharp turn of the steering wheel can easily cause oversteer of RWD cars causing you to spin out too. it'd be foolish to say one always trumps the other. there are applications for both. people just need to learn when to use which.
Well, besides that, this site sounds like a community where people share UGC. This means that although they might not have it centrally backed up, they still have all the UGC out there, somewhere. I'm sure they can recover a good portion of their original content. The forums will be a bit harder to replace. But all that knowledge is in someone's head.
i would imagine that an economic process would take hold if a political process wasn't implemented that would cause crops that produce better profit that would cause crops that are more profitable to take hold. further, i would imagine this would decrease the supply of more staple foods like wheat causing a general consumer's food expense to unnecessarily increase. i have very little knowledge of agriculture so please inform me of my mistakes if i'm being ignorant.
I'm betting that the Googleplex's garden is sufficiently large enough that they would have 1 or 2 full time gardeners instead of hiring and outside landscaping company.
Unless the country weaponizing is wrapped in a giant bubble, i really doubt that anyone would ever want to weaponize any highly contagious and highly deadly bioweapon. I'm no military expert but i'm pretty certain highly deadly is the key characteristic of a desired bioweapon, not highly contagious.
That's one of the milestones of a really dangerous pandemic
I'm no infectious disease specialist but after reading the article on the Spanish Flu, I don't believe that death of young people is a milestone for a pandemic. Its more a milestone for an extremely deadly virus because thats a sign that its able to subvert or reverse a strong immune system. A pandemic, by definition, is just an infection disease that has a widespread number of cases. It doesn't require the disease to be deadly.
As Verizon uses phone technology that is incompatible with the majority of the world.
besides just that, verizon has this stupid UI that severely limits the capability people have on the phone. i can't imagine they'd let the iphone's os run as is. they'll more likely than not severely limit it like all their other phones and effectively make the iphone useless.
Legislatory and Courts not understanding the concepts in Network technology
what I don't understand is why they need to understand network technology. I don't know european law, but I'd imagine that its something similar to the DMCA. I would imagine that the DMCA isn't that ambiguous that you have to understand network technology to interpret it. it seems so basic to me, the site that hosts the content is in violation. are these laws really that convoluted or are we pigeon holing these judges?
ok, you're right, my ms comment was out of line. it just pissed me off to see someone on slashdot say that OSS will not work. that kind of statement, to me, discredits a lot of work that a lot of people have put into the community. i was just trolling there
but as for OSS not innovating, i still don't believe that. i would say firefox is way more innovative than ie. plenty of oss server side applications are more innovative than proprietary server side software, like high performance clusters. there are plenty of companies dumping butt loads of cash into oss companies to innovate. innovation doesn't need to come out of purely proprietary software.
regarding the proliferation of proprietary software... now thats usually because they have a financial responsibility to report growth to their board and to their investors. they traditionally spend much more money on advertising than their open source counterparts.
i can't say that we'd be as far along if closed source companies weren't around, but that doesn't meant that a purely oss world would not be able to continue to advance technology and our understanding of it.
So if some hot chick that is way out of your league goes out with you and at the end of the night, you ask to go out with her again and she tells you one of the following....
I had fun tonight, but no thank you.
You're too boring, your beer belly is disgusting, and you smell like my couch in the basement. Get out of here
which of the two is a *big* win? HINT: its a trick question!1
You know what, I used to think the same thing until arguing with some imbecile in this thread earlier saying that the world can't run on OSS. That got me thinking more and more about what you said. How many years do you think the people at Firefox spent putting together their work? How many hundreds of thousands of OSS developers out there spent countless man hours contributing to a project that they knew they would never see a penny of? Hell, many of those people don't even get recognition. But why do they do it? Its because we feel software for the masses should be free. The software that empowers people and entertains people on their computers should not need to be paid for. There should be an alternative and we have that power to give it to them so we do. We have our skillset that we can use to write proprietary software for companies like google or facebook and keep a roof over our heads
Like you owriters, musicians, and other artists trying to make it big, OSS developers do what they do because they have the ability to and they want to entertain people? But you know what separates the two? I'll give you a hint... its the same thing that put Maddoff behind bars
since you seem to have forgotten what you asked...
why would artists and developers continue producing original works if they're receiving no reward for it?
apparently, everyone that contributes to OSS wants to be broke but have warm fuzzy feelings.
Just because OSS can make good contributions doesn't mean that the world could get by on just OSS.
you are clearly a MS fan boy. Lets see... redhat, mysql, perl, php, oscommerce, bugzilla, etc, etc. There are PLENTY of OSS contributions that are highly successful that don't make money off OSS software they produce. They empower the companies that use them to monetize their software in other means. So really, your argument is nonsense
i don't know whether you're really that jaded you believe the nonsense you just said or if you're just trying to be difficult and retort with nonsense arguments but regardless of which it is, please put more thought into your arguments
why would artists and developers continue producing original works if they're receiving no reward for it? A warm fuzzy feeling that people like your creation doesn't put a roof over your head, nor does it put food on the table.
we are on slashdot aren't we? i'm pretty sure we all know what OPEN SOURCE SOFTWARE is about right? i could have sworn a lot of the contributions to the servers that the site you're posting on were made free of charge
you got that way mixed up. copyright law's intent is to protect the owner of the content from people attempting to create unauthorized duplications. making money is just a utilization of it.

probably the fastest growing plant in the world
That would actually be bamboo

How did Manga/Anime become such a nerd thing?
I'm thinking its because only the nerds ever figured out how to use things like irc bots and torrents to download them.
b) In 1918 a form of swine flu killed millions.
i know your post was a joke... but actually, the 1918 flu was an avaian variant
money or passion? maybe... money is his passion
