Not saying that it can't be done, but I think you underestimate the importance of that empty space for air. It is fairly easy to make a quiet system in a large case without resorting to fancy cooling by using larger but slower RPM fans. It works since there is a lot of airflow. When you compress the entire case, you put the three largest heat producers that much closer together (CPU, PSU, Video card). Without that space, you are stuck with either using smaller louder fans (with decreased efficiency due to the cramped conditions), or using basically laptop hardware, which is a different market segment altogether.
Don't most services still require a SSN for credit checking purposes? I certainly didn't have an option when I signed up for my cable internet, or phone service.
I don't think it says anything about the general public's perspective besides the fact that Apple has brand power. The general public doesn't care if something is open-source or close-sourced. Ask a non-geek why they use the browser they use. I am pretty sure open-source vs. closed-source won't be one of the reasons. I would imagine that if Sun was the one who released Safari (even with a press event), no one would care. Heck, if Apple released a modified Firefox or Opera, I bet it would still get the same amount of downloads, if not more.
Maybe it is just me, but everything you described all relies on the fact that you will be using the internet. The internet is not unique to the iPhone. Of course, knowing Apple, they will "stylize" and "mainstream" its use further (good thing). However, I still don't understand why Apple did not make it 3G in the 1st version.
Seeing as how we are sharing anecdotal stories. I have a Pentium M 1.3ghz, 1GB RAM, Geforce Go420 32MB, and it actually works fine (Aero basic of course). It's certainly not faster, but it's not much slower either. My only slow-down problem was a misbehaving 3rd-party driver, which still needs an update.
Are you sure there isn't a different problem? I opened my e*Trade account using Firefox successfully three months ago (for stocks, banking), and have been using Firefox solely without any problems.
That is exactly why Apple will never license out OSX. Every single percentage that Apple can gain of pure marketshare (hardware & software), is a whole lot more potent than just either or. The only reason Apple would license out OSX or sell Apple hardware with another OS is if they are sinking ship.
GeCAD's RAV use to be decent back in the day. The problem seemed to be that they did pretty much nothing but sit around (or transferred to different projects) after they were bought by Microsoft. By the time Microsoft planned on having OneCare, RAV had pretty deteriorated in technology with an only half-heartedly updated detection database (no product to support after all).
I would suspect it is because they don't actually try to actively use their minds? (assuming this is entirely true) For instance, giving someone who doesn't exercise anabolic steroids would not turn them into a strong person.
The software has to detect 85% or more to be considered for the on-demand test. MS OneCare was only included for the first time most likely due to the reputation of the former RAV. OneCare will be dropped from the test if they don't improve to 85%.
Hmm... I wonder if HP is at fault here. I installed Vista Business on my old notebook. Pentium M 1.3ghz, 1GB DDR. It runs the same as XP for the most part. Well, except no Aero, since the graphics card is too old.
I'm assuming the other companies don't think the cell phone providers will be willing to provide "low-end" phones that don't have the capability to provide full "nickel & dime" profits. Frankkly, I'm not sure the Motofone will make it to the U.S.
This is really a test of the scan engine and database. You would most likely get the exact same results from using the same product on all platforms they sell it on. Since they didn't test the same products on XP (why VirusBulletin always skips around with OS is beyond me), I am not sure how anyone could make any correlation to Vista versions of antiviruses.
I don't see why Dell would want to open up the can of worms of 64-bit XP. Especially if their target customers are not necessarily the most technically advanced. Support costs would be definitely greater due to "issues" (drivers etc.) introduced by 64-bit, which will generally mean a call to tech support.
Looks like someone is in need of really fast cash. If they wanted to maximize their profits they would not reveal their exploits until Vista is on a much larger amount of computers. Otherwise it will only have the chance to affect very few machines before being patched. That is unless they are selling the exploits with err... "full rights" to the highest bidder in that they would not tell anyone else, and the "winner" can sit on the exploit as long as they want before using it for nefarious purposes.
You didn't say where you live, but as a prepaid user I have migrated to the Alltel U prepaid. I am on the 15 cents pay-per-minute plan, with no expiration. The "catch" is that you have to use it at least once a month or they charge you $4 (yes, they don't cancel your account like some other providers, or cancel when you run out of money). So the cost of keeping the service alive is 15 cents a month. The phones you use are the exact same as the normal Alltel plans, so you can simply change to postpaid if you wish to use the same phone. I have the Nokia 6235i which they recently discontinued. I was able to unlock it using an aftermarket cable and use all the java apps I want. I believe the new Nokia 2865i should be also be able to be unlocked unless they changed it. Coverage should also be good since Alltel can roam on Verizon and Sprint.
The days of cracking just for "fun" or "reputation" are mostly over. Malware is driven by money now. Botnets, and spyware are the name of the game. No point in disabling ("owning") computers with malicious code when you can just silently commandeer them to make money. A lot of the malware spreading requires user intervention, which requires a mass audience, and a targeted spreading mechanism (e-mail is still the #1 way to spread).
My bad, finger slipped, clearing mod.

Well they can password protect it...

I bet it wouldn't be such a problem if they just left out the crippleware in order to nickel and dime us.

Isn't Aero suppose to off-load everything to the graphics card? I'm fine so far with Vista and 1GB of memory. Runs the same as XP.

That will probably end up being $32.99 billion in the hands of the lawyers...

With the knowledge that you can actually transfer the OEM license from machine to machine, just buy the OEM version. http://www.pcper.com/article.php?aid=352&type=expe rt&pid=4

Could the airport not employ UAVs with this system that tag a long during the vulnerable stages?

There are a good number of onboard DX9 graphics that meet Vista specs. Onboard graphics like Intel's which can barely "run" any current games.
