gah. one of those is actually mine, but it was disabled shortly after that url got public. and it never gave you admin access anyway, it just changed what happened when that particular article was unavailable to the public: it would forward it to a CMS login instead of showing a "Not found" error. i'm fairly confident that my CMS is secure though.
for various reasons, i think passwords should be stored in hashed format. it should be impossible for the hosting company to tell me my password. they should just reset it.
having no login-able root account is better for newbs, since they'd be unlikely to run something they shouldnt with root permissions (web browser, email account).
however, i dont like the fact that entering my password effectively gives me root access. i have to enter my password every time i sit down at the computer. when i do so, i feel like i'm verifying myself as a user. but when i do admin things, i feel like i should be entering an admin password. i'm more hesitant to type a root password than my own password.
in 1998 (might have been 99), i had no problem at all installing red had onto my Compaq. and i didnt know the first thing about linux, and very little about computers in general.
long story short, i opened up a terminal, typed ls and felt cool because i was running linux. then when i rebooted and realized windows was gone i shit a brick.
...and increases the maximum penalty to life imprisonment where the defendant knowingly or recklessly causes or attempts to cause death
wtf does this have to do with copyright infringement? isnt it already illegal, with a possible penalty of life imprisonment, to knowingly cause death or attempted death?
all known security bugs should be fixed, but low-risk non-public ones can be low priority. we cant expect any vendor to send a patch each and every time they find a security bug, but once they find one the next version they release damn well better have it patched.
in this instance, it's not so much about the disrespect as much as the fact that there's shit in my mouth and it's your fault. i think it'd be closer to spitting at my feet, or flipping me off.
IANAL, but since when does me doing something in my country that would have been illegal had i done it in your country warrant my extradition to your country? it's not like google is Thai.
on a particularly slow week at work i wrote an incremental backup utility in C. it doesnt do anything special; it was mostly because i wanted to re-learn C. i'm planing on releasing it under a BSD license, but that probably wont happen until i get another slow week.
someone has probably already said it (dont have time to check) but this isnt applicable to all Open Source software, just Free Software (TM). just because it's Open Source doesnt mean it's GPL or the like.
speaking of which, does anyone know where i can find info on the perl module named Audio:[smiley-sticking-his-toungue-out]lay? CPAN seems to be missing this one.
tip the screen around all willy-nilly like. it'd be fun for emulating those old tilt-the-thingy-and-get-the-ball-in-the-whole games.
ctrl-f tells me they didnt mention microsoft or windows. if it wasnt on *nix before, what was it on?

how many of those numbers just came on the pre-built PC, and how many were from people who actively went out and purchased vista?
mother of god... awesome. thanks, man. i'm enjoying this insults option too.
nah BSD.
i swear the BSD folks are just sitting there, waiting for Linux to become mainstream so they can become the token elite.
eh, i can see it both ways:

agreed. she's ass-backwards on this.

das ist underground.
how is it any more reckless to use pirated software in a hospital than it is to use the same exact software with a license?

certainly. but these heat-related deaths would most likely not be in Germany, and so www.spiegel.de doesnt care.
we've all heard the "but it's cold now, warmer would be better" argument before, but this is the first time i've ever seen anyone take it seriously.
excellent point. you're right, anonymity is bad. would you be so kind as the post your name and address so that i might discuss this with you further?

oi, and what you're left with is an audio file so lossy-compressed that it sounds like one continuous frequency. no thanks.
but the DRM CD's technically arent audio CDs, and the recent ones dont have the Comact Disc Digital Audio logo.
to my knowledge, there are no real audio CDs with DRM.
i'd promote & comment, but IdeaStorm doesnt allow you to sign up with an email address with a + in it.
where's the guy with the link to the relevant RFC in his sig?
