We don't need condoms.
The RIAA is raping us, not the other way around =)
Actually, they already sell cds with extra content. I know I have 2 CDs at home (one being NIN Downward Spiral and I can't remember the other one) where the provided the cd with the music on one side and on the flip side they provided DVD with some extra content. I really didn't give a damn about the extra content and to this day haven't seen any of it. I ended up buying the DualDiscs b/c it was the same price but with more stuff.
What they should be doing, instead of throwing in some crappy stuff, is dropping the prices of CDs. I haven't bought a new CD in a few months simply b/c I can't justify spending $14-$15 dollars on a CD. Nowadays, I shop at a local music shop that sells previously owned CDs. THe quality is great but the prices are even better.
It seems like a knee-jerk reaction to me. They're losing money and they don't want to scare off the investors. Easiest way to do that is to reduce the money flowing out of the company which usually means layoffs. Less salaries gives the appearance of more profit margins
Everytime, I hear of layoffs though I always think of Office Space
Peter Gibbons: You're gonna lay off Samir and Michael?
Bob Slydell: Oh yeah, we're bring in some entry-level graduates, farm some work out to Singapore, that's the usual deal.
Bob Porter: Standard operating procedure.
Peter Gibbons: Do they know this yet?
Bob Slydell: No. No, of course not. We find it's always better to fire people on a Friday. Studies have statistically shown that there's less chance of an incident if you do it at the end of the week.
My biggest complaint against Stallman's crusade against non-free software is that all software is free. If you don't like the price, don't buy it. If you don't like the EULA's, don't use it. Freedom exists in the freedom of choice. A lot of software is there to make our lives so much easier, but we don't need it!
As for the freedom to be able to tinker with the code, the vast majority of people don't want to nor care to know how to. They want something to work and if doesn't, they will gladly pay someone to fix it. The people who do want to tinker with the code, like myself, do so with the Linux distros.
Don't misunderstand, I think the movement itself is great b/c it gives a lot of more opportunities to review and revise apps that we use, not to mention cost-effective opportunities away from the great M$ empire. I think it's great for me and other people who are interested in it but I donn't mind at all making money off of developing software and hope that I can for the duration of my career. I don't like exploiting people but I like being paid for something that I actually enjoy doing. I like offering them a product that could save them more money and being the cash incentive to develop something useful to others.
See this is an American show, it SUPPOSED to worship gunpower over intellect. They also get all of their cool technology from aliens(foreigners). Com'on! Even the enemies represent American enemies! The Gou'ald represent the Communist threat we faced then now we have a threat that is fighting for their Gods and are doing their will in destroying the infidels!
They did what any good, God-fearing Christian would do: they quoted scriptures at me and tended to avoid any rational logical argument. Mostly it went along the lines of:
"The bible says that God created man on the seventh day in his image" When I asked how they explained the fossil remains of creatures that existed millions of years ago, they fired back with "It is God's design to test the faith of a true Christian!" I love Creationism! Everything can be explained with very little thought. Why is the ocean blue? God made it that way b/c is eyes are blue =) To deny that means you're going to burn eternally in hell.
The second question was mostly replied to with screams of "Heretic!" They didn't like that idea at all. They believe that the bible is meant literally, word for word. It is inspired by the Holy Ghost, how can it be erroneous if it's inspired by God? A couple of my classmates wouldn't talk to me after that. Again it wasn't all of the class. Most were pretty rational people but there were those few that really had me taken aback.
Needless to say, I didn't last after a year of it and most of that time was spent off campus.
Reminds me of my freshman year on college. I went to a Christian college (soccer scholarship) and got in a huge debate with half of my class over the merits of Evolution vs Creationism. Until that point in time, I never knew that there existed people who didn't believe in the theory of evolution not to mention so damn many of them.
I posed two questions for them, which I still ask:
1) How can anyone totally dismiss Evolution with the amount of supporting evidence? Not saying it is the answer to our ancestry, but it's the most probable answer that we have right now.
2) How can anyone not think that the story of Genesis might not be merely metaphorical? No one could read or write before Genesis was written and most historical information was passed through the generations as stories(Iliad). Why then is Genesis taken so literally?
First off, as we're fighting this "war," like some of our other supposed "Wars" the things that we are losing the most are our freedoms. You say that that is a small sacrafice to pay for the comfort and security that our esteemed leaders are providing. Nevermind the fact that as the war continues and we keep killing people in the Middle East, we also are inflating the ranks of the Terrorists http://www.commondreams.org/headlines03/1015-04.ht m.
My real issue lies in the fact that we are losing our freedoms to stay alive. Yet our claim to fame is in the American Revolution, where our forefathers gave up their lives for the freedoms that we enjoy. What has happened to our society in those 200 years? Granted this is a minor inconvenience but as the terrorists continue to become more creative, how many more rights will be sacraficed?
Where and when will the sacraficing of rights and freedoms stop? As both this war and the war on drugs continue (which both will be endless), the government seems to want to intrude upon the private lives of it's citizens in order to make them safer. You put that much power into an organization and eventually it will fall to the cliche "Absolute power currupts absolutely." As much as we need to protect our lives, we also need to protect our rights. It's our heritage paid for with blood and tears. Why do we give up on them so easily?

What does Osama have to do with Bush's War on Terrorism?

Just goes to prove that aliens are for OSS too...
