I just deal with ipods and ipads so I have no experience with basebands but I feel not being able to go back to a working version is a bigger liability than any potential security risk.

example super important electronic flight bag app works on ios 5.0.1 after upgrading to ios 5.1.1 it is found that obscure important function c does not work on the new ios version.

Since you can't switch out to an old ios version you now have a expensive paperweight until apple or the app developer fixes compatibility.

Lot safer to just not upgrade and still have a working app & device.

This year I discovered the latest version of gparted could no longer properly resize a fat32 partition. Lucky me I just so happened to have a cd with a 4 year old copy that worked without issue. N.I.N.A.B: Newer Is Not Always Better.

Seems counter intuitive to burn more fuel to make less exhaust. I was really meaning to refer to the efficiency of the engine. A lot of manufactuers are just making the vehicles lighter and using the same old inefficient engines to raise mpg.

I have always assumed that a more efficient engine would be cleaner burning. I suppose that could be wrong tho.

My best understanding of the VW cheating scandal is that if the emissions software worked like it was supposed to the engine would have significantly less power.
Not saying I support what they did because many others were able to get the same results without cheating (years later) .

But as ive said before being Eco friendly is nice up to the point where things no longer function as they should.
I can reduce emissions by 100% car if I rip out the engine but pushing it everywhere flinstones style isn't really practical.

Cfls are worthless as lights until they warm up.
LEDs are great all the time just bad cri although im sure that will improve in the future.

The first low flow toilets wouldn't flush.
Now they have better low flow designs that can flush strong with a fraction of the water.

They have started adding ethanol to the gasoline while I am not sure if its for an ecological reason it is really bad for small engines and will ruin the carborators of chainsaws, lawnmowers, atvs, motorcycles, etc especially if it sits for any length of time.

Anyhow what was the subject again? Ive wandered off and lost my spot.

It should be but I haven't seen any news of any automated fill systems in development. As for electric Ive only heard of the snake charger tesla is working on.
So maybe they will start work on automatic gas stations later? Many of the gas stations here have intentionally slow pumps so it takes 15 minutes to get 10 gallons of fuel.
Some have even went as far as disabling the cc machine at the pump so you have to go inside. Somehow I don't think they have my convince in mind. So if I want to fill up at existing stations manual will be required. However since we are talking about a SDC having to drive an extra 100 miles to get to an automatic fill/charger may not be considered an issue on a cross country trip.

Years ago I was hearing about plans for wireless chargers where you just parked your vehicle over a certain spot. Haven't heard anything about them in a while so I assume its been decided the losses are too great with the amount of transfer required to charge an electric car.

However much smaller things eg a roomba already have a automatic (and wired) charging solution. So it can be done easily enough.
