The US has a population of 300 million plus. The EU has a population of 500 million plus. (I don't have numbers for Canada, Mexico and South America.) It seems to be like the Japan numbers are pretty much a drop in the bucket-- they should be focusing their efforts on Europe and the US first (like they are), and Korea and Japan second.

They're more or less stated that they're working as hard as they can on backwards compatibility. What they haven't stated is whether it will come standard, or be an extra... knowing the issue with nVidia patents, it'll likely be an extra piece of software, probably costing around $25-30. That's my guess, at least.

In any case, my Xbox is still in good condition, so it doesn't worry me for at least a few years. My buddy with a first-gen Xbox that's slowly falling apart will be more interested in compatibility.

I don't have any issues with Microsoft as a company and I really like my Xbox 1. That doesn't mean I'm a paid shill, that means I tried out the system and I made up my own damn mind without being influenced by this typical Slashdot bullshit.

I'm sorry that I'm not thinking like a Slashdot drone, but I'm buying a Xbox 360 when they come out-- the idiocy in your post has practically guaranteed it.

Why is Japanese support thought to be so critical for consoles? Just because they have controlled the marketplace since the mid-80s doesn't mean that there's some magical juice that makes Japanese games or hardware better than American ones. If anything, we should be supporting Microsoft for taking back the industry from overseas instead of declaring that they will fail because they don't have Japanese developer support.

A *real* MUDder would type "rec rec" and not the wasteful "recite recall."

Mudding isn't bad advice, but it's also not really a good example of the type of typing you'll need to do in real life. Most MUDs consist mostly of typing commands for attacking a MOB, and very little of actually talking to other players.

What you want to find is a MUD based around RP, in which you're typing to other players much more than you're giving commands to the environment. (Plug: The Eternal Struggle http://esmud.com/ is an excellent RP MUD.)

On the contrary, I think that if you learn typing "correctly," or if you learn it yourself without tutoring, the end-result is the exact same. The reason typing classes teach you to keep your fingers near the homerow is, whether you taught yourself or not, that's where your fingers will end up anyway when you try to go fast. The only reason variation, really, is what fingers you use to hit what letters... for instance, I always use my right thumb to hit space and my left pinky to hit shift, and I tend to use my left hand more than my right for keys in the middle of the keyboard.

Seriously, what are you, a communist? Yeah, it's a pity that some people are poor, but our society in the US is pretty-well constructed.

What neither person realizes is that the odds of having a terrible experience is about the same on both services... they just had bad luck on one, and good luck on the second. But no company has 100% excellent customer service all the time.

What really bugs me is that these people, not realizing this, then go online and shout out, "don't sign up with DishNetwork! I had a bad experience!" (I guess it evens out with people who have a similar bad experience with DirectTV, but still.) 2) The fact that anybody who doesn't know how to "add two commands to the window manager" (Personally, I don't even know what that means!) is a moron.
    3) The fact that MCE is better and easier (fact, buddy) is FUD. Is it spreading fear? Does it spread uncertainty? Does it spread doubt? No; it's simply better. I've used both, and I'll vouch for it personally.

A usability problem is a usability problem. If the remote is listed as "supported," then why should they have to do *anything* to get it to work? It should just work right away. Not wanting to install DeCSS to watch DVDs is a perfectly acceptable position to take-- news flash: It IS illegal! (If you don't like it, spend money for a license and purchase rights to decode DVDs on Linux.) Why do they have to run Gedit if they're using supported hardware?

It's not FUD if it's true. (It's also not FUD if it's a blatent lie-- the acronym seems to have lost the meaning it once had.)
