I did not agree to any license when purchasing the cd, all i have to follow is canadian copyright law. Canadian copyright dictates that my friends can borrow the cd and make a copy for personal use.
Fair use can NOT be withdrawn or replaced. Only by another law could this happen. (DMCA anyone?) I'm not sure you grasp the concepts of copyright all that well.
For downloading, yes the other party has to be uploading. The legal burden is on them, not me. This has been established in canadian court already. Downloading is totally legal, uploading is not.
In canada, i can borrow my friend's CD collection and legally make a copy of every single CD for my personal listening.
I can also download songs online, (kazaa etc) as long as i dont upload any, also totally legally.
Maybe with this new law its changing? Or something. Either way, this is the reaosn we pay a levvy on blank media, because music 'piracy' is legal here. So they take some money from any blank music media to compensate the artists for this copying. I still doubt the artists ever see a penny of it.
Just get a secondary account as storage. Ive got 5-6 for diff purposes. I use one mounted with gmailfs, use one to sign up for shit and collect spam..another for my personal mail, another to hand out with resumes, etc etc..
I personally will probably never fill 250mb, let alone a gig.
I love gmail for all its features that Yahoo just doesnt have. I love the searching through archived mail. I love the labels instead of folders. And I -love- the threaded conversation view.
Yahoo would have to come up with some pretty killer feature at this point for me to even look at it. Even if it matched the featureset, it's still slow and cluttered compared to Gmail. And even then, I trust google more with all my mail than I do Yahoo.
Basically, just upping to a gig from 250mb...I could see this maybe stopping some Joe Sixpacks who use Yahoo now from switching to Gmail, but anyone who has actually used Gmail will probably never switch to Yahoo. The goodness just isnt there.
Scientific laws are also just theories. We simply rely on them enough to call them laws.
In science, a fundamental truth is a theory can never ever ever be proven. Only disproven.
BUT, like you mention, in science a theory means something that is fully backed up by evidence, or equations, etc. It isnt just something some guy thought up and calls it a theory.

No, i mean rar archives. Does the exact same thing as par/par2, but inside the rar archive itself.
If you have winrar...
open the create archive dialog..in the first (general) tab, check the 'put recovery record' option. Then in the second tab you just set the percentage you want. When i use it i generally use 10 percent.
If your rar is borked (up to 10 percent of your bits can be bad...) hit alt-r inside the winrar window.. or inside the tools menu pick 'repair archive'

RAR archives can also do this, in any percentage you'd like. Just adds in parity data and fixes it as needed.
The reason the twists are done, is because on the Rx end of the cable, each pair goes into a differential amplifier. This amplifies the difference in voltages on the two lines. Any noise/crosstalk/etc common to the two lines doesnt get amplified. It actually gets nulled out by the Common Mode Rejection Ratio(CMRR) of the amp (60db or more usually).
So, when you twist the wires together, you are ensuring that any noise that hits the wire, his both wires, in phase. This allows for very long runs. MANY techs work in this way. Nearly all serial techs, altough, some are implemented better than others.
I have no idea what you're talking about with the 'reflections in the pairs speeding up data flow'. AFAIK that makes no sense at all. You never want reflections in a transmission line.
Let's not forget the competition, AVI. As we know, it is just a container file, containing a highly compressed jpeg for every frame, and only allows 11500 khz 8 bit uncompressed audio.
Keep in mind, skypein is not compatible with linux.
They SAY latest version, but what they actually mean is latest windows version. What you actually seem to need is 1.2 or greater and linux is, so far, only at 1.0.0.7.
Still an amazing client tho. I use it for almost all my IMing in linux. Everything is very strongly encrypted (rsa 2kbit to auth and exchange aes-256 keys) The chatting has some really nice features like, near unlimited characters in your messages, the ability to send the same file easily to all the people in the one chat, and conference calls everyone in the same chat also at the click of a button.
Soon as skypin hits kelowna though, and the linux version hits 1.2 (and please for the love of god,put in some goddamn native alsa support) count me in.
Actually, by far the best product i've used to encrypt msn/aim etc is Simp.
Simp for windows uses a 2kbit RSA pub/priv key system to authenticate, and uses that to exchange a 128 or 256 bit AES key. It is very customizable, and changes the colour of the text of the people you're talking to to show they are encrypted and authenticated (2kbit rsa was used to exchange the aes key) or that they are just encrypted (diffie hellman method used to exchange key), or not encrypted at all.
For *nix, they have a transparent proxy server running. I'm in slack now and it works great. also changes the colour/name of the person (if you want of course, its all customizable for both versions)
Every single person I talk to regularly uses simp for encryption. (which is about 5 people, but there is still the bunch of people i talk to occaisionally who dont use it)
Anyways, its all totally free. They have a for pay version that has some more features..i think chosing different encryption types and sending files encrypted (but i use skype for that currently anyways..which has rsa key authentication and aes-256 for everything else)
Actually TBE keeps a space on either side for easy clickage (needed because you middle click the bar to undo closing a tab, and need to drag tabs around to re-order their group, etc)
I pretty much agree with everything you've said. That was basically my theory too. One moment of crippling depression and anger caused a suddent decision. She was mildly drunk at the time so that would lower her inhibitions against doing it too.
I attempted to explain before that I came off more hostile to her because i was really trying to get thru to the person i was originally talking to that suicde is the WRONG answer.
In my daily life i dont really think of her and get angry at all. While it was her death that caused these problems, I dont resent her for it.
Life has definatly gone on. I think this is 1000x harder for my parents than it is for me. My grades plummeted last year and I failed a class, but now the GPA is back up, etc.
I never at any point blamed myself, although my parents did forsure.
And yes the article point, i also believe the internet of all places should be free from govt intervention on its content. Not aruguing that point at all.
Yeah i'm basically just thinking of the good of the many over the good of the few. (one)
Fucking up 10 lives (actually there was over 400 people at her funeral, all who knew her well and she was well liked) because you're depressed doesnt really cut it as unselfish for me.
You fill find this pretty hard to believe, but our family was as close to a perfect family I've seen I think. I'm sure there are better but it doesnt get that much better.
Upper middle class family, dad started his own company, but by the time my sister was around he was home a lot.
No abuse, parents rarely fought..When I was growing up we were pretty poor (company just getting started and all) but when my sister was growing up we were decently well off.
My dad's side of the family is european, and all had very strong family values...
Parents seem to believe in god, but not enough to go to church, and never preached it to us, letting us make our own decision when we got old enough (me and her both decided it was a lot of hooey).
My parents every other year save up all year and take me and my sister on a trip to mexico. Sometimes every year if the money is good enough.
Not sure really how our family life could have been improved. Everyone i see around me has divorced parents, dysfunctinal relationships with the parents they do have...etc
I had a good relationship with her, but I moved out early because I love living on my own.
The sad thing is, because of the strong family values and that my sister had a good personality and everyone liked her..if she would have let on the tinyest bit that she was suicidal, anyone in the family would have done ANYTHING to stop this from happening. Myself included.
She left no note or indication of why she did it. She blocked me on msn that night, i assume so i wouldnt see her name she put "fuck you all, i'm gonna say goodbye" or something along those lines.
She has some really shitty drug addict freinds, i assume that couldnt have helped. The tox report came back negative for everything except a little bit of alcohol.
Either way, all of that beeing said..I am angry at her, but i still love her. I came off sounding madder at her than i am. Just trying to convince the grandgrandparent that suicide was a stupid thing to do because of the consequences it has for everyone.
Maybe she did have her reasons to die, but they werent worth the misery they caused.
A lot of people thus far have called me selfish etc, but i cant imagine what would be more selfish than what my sister did. I'm thinking of the welfare of my entire family. Now my parents marriage is on the rocks, my grades have gone to shit, and the rest of the family is totally depressed (all like i said before).
I think it must have been illness, but she didnt display any of the signs. She didnt get happier towards the end like some do, she didnt look super depressed. She had a low self image, like most teen girls...but none of this seems like suicide material to me...I guess it must have been illness.
Ah too much typing, just trying to get across to you that our family life was really great, and i dont have a single regret about my childhood. My sister was more spoiled than I was i guess because we had more money, maybe that contributed.
And its okay dont bother sparing my feelings, I'm near impossible to offend.
My sister killed herself last year (almost to the day).
If she wasnt already dead I'd kill her for the pain and suffering she has cause me and especially my parents (and of course the rest of the family)
Suicide is never an option, unless maybe you are some hermit who no one loves. Nothing would be worth doing that to your wife. It would ruin her life forever.
I realize you're cured but you dont really seem to grasp how much it affects the people around you.
My parents are fucked up, my grades have gone to shit, and the whole family seems to just be permanently melancholie.
My advice to anyone contemplating suicide..DONT. Nothing is worth ruining the lives of your loved ones.

Not with TBE :D
Got it set to block referers from slashdot.org, booyah.
Trillian is open source?
Okay great. So..AFP just got any NYT story with an AFP image etc blacklisted. Think NYT is gonna be purchasing any more AFP content? I doubt it.
Nevermind, someone is faster than me.
Damnit, anyone make a copy of the latest? I had a nice adblock.txt goin and lost it in a server crash a while ago...
Could even paste it as a comment ? The boon of moderation will be yours!
