No, make production illegal (which it is), and possibly make it illegal to purchase it.
I mean, you wouldn't punish someone for having videos of people being murdered, would you? You would only punish those who did the killing, and perhaps those who purchased it, providing that the purchaser knew that they were encouraging such behavior, which is a stretch, I know. That's why I'm not sure if purchasing kiddie porn should be illegal.
Or we could make it so that corporations were subject to criminal law, and would have their articles of incorporation stripped, or their board of directors replaced with feds for some period of time, just like a person is put into jail or put on supervised release.
I mean, the corporation is an artificial construct created by the government specifically to shield everyone involved from the law, so the government should take away that privilege when it is abused.
Time for action? I've been acting since my first flight after 9/11. I'll never fly again so long as the TSA has such overarching power and asinine policies as it has now.
If you don't like it, vote with your wallet, and drive the whole damn industry out of business. They deserve it for letting the government walk all over them and their customers.
Long prison sentences don't really serve to deter criminals, if they did, Canada would have much higher violent crime rates than the US, but that is clearly not the case (pdf).
Indeed, it could be reasonably postulated that longer prison terms lead criminals to kill their victims so that they can't be identified and sent to federal pound-me-in-the-ass prison.
Actually, Paul is a pretty damn good public speaker, and a masterful debater (see how he made McCain look like a fool). He just wasn't given enough time to really get his views out there, and there was a real media blackout, at least, until the media was certain that he couldn't win, THEN they started talking about him again. Unfortunately I can't seem to find the month by month breakdown of candidate coverage, but it showed that effect quite clearly.
It's hard to win when the entirety of the media is against you.
You don't really need to reverse engineer it...

The brain is an adaptive system. Provide it with a stimulus, and it will reprogram itself. How do you think the monkey learned how to use the robotic arm? Did they hack into the neurons and input code to work a third arm?
No, the monkey's brain spontaneously created the neural network to control it. Sentient beings aren't computers, at least not in the conventional sense, because they reformat themselves to process new data (learning), and even to process new types of inputs. One might be able to build a computer advanced enough to handle this level of functionality, but once it is built, you won't be programming it with code. Instead, you'll be teaching it just like you do a child.
Not only that, but people would be more willing to come forward without fear of being accused of being a baby-raping monster themselves.
As it is, I've read several stories where men just drove by dangerous situations, like one where a three year old child was wandering alone on the highway, because he didn't want to be seen picking up a child off the side of the road and get accused of being a pedophile. The child was hit by a truck minutes later and died.
If men don't feel that it's safe to help a child, children are going to die needlessly. If a man has some child pornography, and reports it to the police, HE will end up labeled for the rest of his life (this happened recently--I just don't recall the fellows name--I think he got hard time though). It doesn't matter if he bought it, or pirated it, or found it in the bloody desert, the feds just shoot the messenger, and surprise surprise, their leads dry up.
Possession should give probable cause, but shouldn't be a crime in itself. They should be focusing on the monsters who rape little children rather than the consumers. If you go after the consumers, you just end up with an underground network of users with no outside accountability (unless they get caught).
The UN shouldn't be involved. Nations, corporations, or individuals could set up moon bases and have a permanent presence there, just like when the Americas were colonized. If you left, or couldn't defend your land, or just plain couldn't make it and died, then your land became available to anyone who wanted to settle there.
Ink on a document is meaningless if you don't have the manpower (or the firepower) to back it up.
Not really. I love China. They have a very interesting culture, and are certain to return to their former status as preeminent world superpower within 50 years. Their only weakness seems to be that they blindly follow authority figures, even if it is to their detriment. They simply have a very powerful government, and I don't like powerful governments--which are not limited to any particular race or people.
As it stands now, it IS possible for resistance organizations and other inconvenient groups (Falun Gong, etc.) to exist within China, and meet secretly. Once they have all these cameras, as I previously mentioned, they will be able to follow one member back to their meetings, follow each of those members to find other meeting places, etc. Once they have a critical mass, they can swoop in and nab everyone.
This hasn't happened in London because the English aren't ruthless, and have the freedom to assemble peaceably. Whether they are making a list or not, I don't know.
Remember Orwell. The goal of a surveillance society is only initially to reduce crime. That, as we have seen in London, doesn't work. In China's case, I would question if that was EVER the point. It is effective for locating and cracking down on resistance movements and political dissent. In 1984, there were still plenty of criminals. The police state was not aimed at them, but it was aimed at people like Winston, party members who had doubts, or thoughts of insurrection.
What you call fear, I call logic (since I'm not afraid of the Chinese government--it's the US one that I'm worried about). If I ruled over a society like that, and was free to use any means I deemed necessary to root out insurrection, that is EXACTLY how I would do it, and I'm a pretty smart guy (contrary to your opinion). If they can come up with a better way, then they would, and we wouldn't be having this conversation.
Why are you resorting to personal attacks? Are your arguments that weak?
If you have asthma, you can in fact choose to go to one of the hundreds of thousands of non-smoking bars and or restaurants that already exist in this country.
I suppose we should ban smoking in hooka bars too, so that we can accomodate everyone? Maybe install wheelchair ramps into pools and ice rinks? Perhaps we should mandate voice activation on all doors, to accomodate those without arms? Hey, let's force all computer manufacturers to integrate assistance for the deaf, dumb, and blind into their products! Maybe all movies should have closed captioning at the bottom so that deaf people can enjoy the movies as well? Of course, all water fountains should be no more than two feet from the ground in order to accomodate little people (those with primordial dwarfism are people too!). Jeez.
You are advocating banning something from every single place of business just so you can go into any one you want. That doesn't seem right to me. This is a free country. You can choose to go into a smoke free bar (of which there are many), or you can choose to wear a gas mask. What you CAN'T do (or shouldn't be able to do) is shut down any practice or place of business just because you don't like what goes on inside.

Lather. Rinse. Repeat.
Once you have enough, you send in the jack-booted thugs to black-bag all the big boys and some of the smaller players (to scare the rest of the opposition rank and file) and BAM, no more dissention. They can't even meet in secret, because their every move is being watched.
Good luck with that.

They don't want to prevent crime, they just want to have control over ther population and increase their power.
