Well, I live in Richmond, VA, having grown up in (less Southern) Bloomington, IN, and I can tell you this: They still fly it. I find the South a very angry place. There are houses here that fly the Stars and Bars, and it is a very common occurrence to see them on bumper stickers on older American-made pick up trucks.

I realize that your post may be tongue in cheek, but as Utah Phillips says, "The past didn't go anywhere." And that's especially true down here.

i don't really care what my computer looks like, but i do care how it sounds. i find the whining of the fans & disks to be quiet disturbing. one of the great things about the original mac was that it was completely silent.

so where can i find such a beast? i have looked in vain for years.

All the new iMacs are without fan. They use a pretty cool convection system with lots of vents on top of the case to keep the insides cool.

I was completely surprised when I received one on Christmas morning (my wife spoils me!). I spent four hours that day playing with it,

Only four hours? I only got the Robotics Discovery set, and I managed to play with it from 0830 when I opened it to 1930 when I finally got some dinner! My girlfriend was so pleased, she read one of the books I got her cover to cover on the couch.

I am so in love with this. When my dad and stepmom come to visit in Jan. I'm gonna hopefully have the RIS waiting for me! Man, oh, man.
