The look and feel is clearly retro but that is not necessarily a bad thing. I also though that in episodes 1-3 the costumes, the starship and everything else was too 'clean'. I prefer the 'dirty' look of the old episodes.
However, I would also agree that there are too many references to episodes 4-6.
The first ones are funny, then there is soon a strong feeling of déjà-vu and eventually this becomes annoying because they are not even subtle.
- Ho no! His lightsaber felt in the snow! how is he going to get it back?.... - We need to hide in the Millennium Falcon. Let's try under the floor. - What is that? It's too big to be a ship! - Let's organize a meeting with Boy and Dad on a suspended platform! -...
Even the bad guy is just a pale copy of Darth Vader. Ok... that is probably intentional but he cannot even control himself. Seriously?
Hardly! 25^26 = 2.2e+36 is only a bit smaller than 26^26 = 6.1e+36
If all characters were different then the number of possibilities would still be in the range of 26! ~= 4e26 This is quite smaller but still too large to fit on a floppy or on a modern HD (or even on the whole internet)
A program running on a 10Ghz CPU that would enumerate one solution per cycle would need 1.26 billion years to complete.
And the fact that the leak contains so many 3 character passwords is probably a sign that this is exactly what happened. The hackers probably got access to a database containing salted passwords. The leak is just the output of a password cracker applied to that database.
What I find more problematic is that people where authorized to use a password with only 3 characters.
Any system I worked on during the last 20 years would never allow that.
An most towers have a (long) pyramidal shape. Everyone nows that pyramids concentrate cosmic energies! They also attract mummies but that's another story.
It is tempting to think that the flooded area contain traces of ancient advanced civilisations but more realistically, they are probably not very different from those found on solid ground. After all, the flooded areas only represent a few percent of the whole area occupied by humans at that time. Even assuming that the coastal regions were the more densely populated, it is difficult to imagine that an ancient advanced civilisation would not also have occupied some areas that are now inland.
Future historian may not be able to read our electronic forms of storage but they will have plenty of artefacts to study. A middle size landfill site from the 20th century is likely to produce more objects than 4000 years of ancient Egypt history.
The fact that they won't be able to visualize your porn collection won't matter much for them.

The thing that pisses me off with gimp is not the UI or saving by default to XCF. I am interested by raw image processing and I would be very happy to use and to contribute to the new 16bit depth features. Unfortunately, the GIMP devs are actively doing everything they can to prevent peoples from trying the current development version. No major release for more than 3 years and no available development release for testing? Be serious guys! This is insane.
Encryption what? I am really sorry Sir but I am not aware of such things. What is this big file? I used to do research on random numbers and this is data for my experiments.

The article mentions that the moon was tidally locked from the start but does not explain why. At first I was a bit suspicious because that is a huge assumption. The paper in http://iopscience.iop.org/2041... explains that in more details.
Also, another reason for having 12 months is that this number is, like 60 and 360, quite remarkable because it has a lot of divisors. Simply speaking 12 is the smallest number that can divided by 2, 3, 4 and 6 while 60 can also be divided by 5 and 10. That is why we still count eggs in dozen, times in 60 minutes or 60 seconds, days in 24 hours (2*12)...
In ancient calendars, the time was often measured in 'moons' which made a lot of sense for hunter gatherers so when farming was invented, they switched to a yearly based calendar and it made sense to decompose the year in 12 months (so a convenient number) that also had the advantage of being relatively close to the moon period.
This is unfortunate but you are probably right. Hopefully, I may live long enough to assist to a clathrate gun event that would put an end to that nonsense.
From what I remember, there was no concept of directory in the very first version of DOS (no disk but tapes,...) and / was, and is still, used for passing options to programs. When directories were added they had to choose a separator amongst the available reserved characters. Since / was already used they went for \.
Not really, Zeno's paradox is about an infinite sum giving a finite result.
The technique in the article look more like a typical monte-carlo method (that is generating a lot of random values to find a result) combined with some localized search around local maximums. As such that does not seem to be a new idea. I haven't read the whole paper yet but the innovation seems to be in the fact that they managed to apply this idea to a new class of problems.
All they need to do is use one of those password cracker devices: http://thumbs.randomenthusiasm...

Does that mean that I have the right to shoot all those pesky fat birds?
Turn the engine on. Its weight will miraculously decrease.

3x more expensive? Does that mean that you will be able 4 HDDs for the price of 1 SSD?

I am not sure to see the relation between being static (or not) and running Javascript.
Anyway, I would not qualify their page as being static so I guess that we probably do not have the same definition for that word.
PS: I am not one of the two AC parents

Modern phones can give you the local temperature but I am pretty sure that phones could not do that in 1876.
