XGL != 3D, compiz and beryl (what you're probably thinking of) are WMs which do 3d effects but they aren't compulsory. Just using desktop compositon will actually reduce your CPU load. K?

After using vista for a few months on-and-off out of curiosity I can certify that UAC impedes ALL software. Turning off my pc is also a barrier agaisnt unwated software and just like UAC it does seem to hamper productivity without being at all sensible.
You trust a child with a valuable bit of technology and then don't trust what he does with it? Dubious is dubious but what about private things? A computer is a personal item! You should be all or nothing on that.
Also the Wii will featurea system whereby you will be alerted to the obvious every thirty seconds. Developers hope to make sure that people don't lose their minds while playing and decide to hartm themselves.
