Management and bosses aren't peons and want carte blanche when it comes to IT. At my work we had a problem with people using facebook and porn. Its a small shop with about 20 PC's and there were only two culprits: the office "manager" who spent her entire day on FB and a skeevy shop worker who used his PC for porn. The office manager tried to hide her addiction but she was caught time and time again with FB open. She once had the nerve to tell an overworked and overloaded secretary that she was too busy to help her when in reality she was on FB. At least the skeevy shop guy didn't give a shit. You could walk by his machine and see him sitting there watching the sickest shit imaginable. The worst was when he showed me this clip of a quad amputee getting gangbanged by 10 or so guys. He had no shame.
So those two clowns earned the entire shop a Barracuda internet filtering device (a total PoS) at the bosses demand. I opted myself out of it and gave the general manager a very relaxed filter which I think only blocked porn. The boss wanted to "play with it" so I had to give him the password (how can I say no when he paid for it)? So he granted himself full access and of course I was in his office a week later cleaning malware off his PC (because you know, he is the boss and locked down security policies don't apply to him). My money is on porn.
And the barracuda was no picnic. It crapped out every week needing a re-image. And there were times when the filter blocked legit sites because they were listed as a blocked category when they weren't (eg a commercial vendor site marked as entertainment). Then there were times it simply needed a reboot when the internet speeds came to a crawl. They fired or should I say forced out the office manager and the skeevy shop guy got paranoid when he thought the boss was watching him watch porn. So after only six months I canned the barracuda as all it did was create more problems than it solved and the problems went away.
The Most clever of all is when they knew I was on Match.com so they had a Chinese Girl contact me and I was amazed at how quickly she wanted to come to my house, it was too easy actually but right after she came I noticed the hacking got 10 times worse. I now realize she came to get my cable modem Mac address so they could clone my cable modem.
I bet his herpes also got 10 times worse as well:-p
LOL:
Their hack made a mistake and assumed that the hidden volume I created was part of their set-up so they proceeded to copy over a 666MB.iso file that had the same name a linux Dragonfly Live DVD except that Dragonfly is 900MB, not 666MB like this one.
It gets better: How they hacked my iPhone last year in Asia
How they hacked my iPhone last year in Asia If you think you are safe just because you have an original iPhone from Apple that wasn't unlocked, think again. Granted I was sleeping with the enemy ( my Vietnamese Wife ) and since I had to sleep sometimes, the Hoa Hao had a huge advantage because they could sabotage my electronic devices while I was sleeping if they weren't able to do it while I was awake.
So, um, yea. I would only read that blog if looking for a good laugh. A big "Thank you"goes out to the gp for the lulz.
... and you also get hydrogen embrittlement. Which means that over time the metal parts become brittle and subject to fracture. That is why gas or flux shielding is so important in welding. The water in the air separates in the arc and the hydrogen gets embedded into the weld pool weakening it.
I hope to never see this tech this side of the pond. A Sunoco station opened up near my home years back a block from a Hess. The pumps have one of those annoying video screens that plays adverts. To make it worse, the Sunoco architect thought it was a good idea to put three pumps in a row with no space between aisles to get between cars parked at the outer pumps. So you are stuck in the middle waiting if you finish filling or the middle pump is empty. Moronic setup. The Hess gets my money as their pumps have no screens and the layout is four rows of two pumps so there is never an in between pump.
You are talking about software, you haven't mentioned hardware. One of the big uses for the Pi is not making yet another PC but a cheap hardware development platform. If you want to make a robot with a web interface, web cam, and plenty of processing power, you aren't going to use android or an X86-64 PC. Linux running on the Pi can interface with motors and sensors using the onboard GPIO while giving the user a real OS to work in with plenty of memory and video. It can also run off of a relatively small battery which is also very important.
Funny thing is I have a friend trying to get x10 working with little success. The problem is in US homes, there are two separate busses in the panel box for circuit breakers, one for each hot leg. The problem is if you plug a transmitter into one outlet on bus A, any circuits on bus B can't communicate with the transmitter. So you have to buy a bridge which he did, it plugs into the dryer outlet which is 240V and wired across the two hot legs. Still wont work. He asked me if an amplifier he found would work and I told him to dump x10, its an uphill battle that is difficult to win.
Modbus is a very low level protocol in which you are manipulating registers or contacts/coils in a PLC. Essentially a register is a 16 bit location in memory (variable) and a contact or coil is a single bit which can read/write physical inputs or outputs or virtual coils or contacts (essentially relays). Modbus is very old and dates back to Modicon who developed it as a simple network protocol for ladder logic programmed PLC's in the late 70's. It is still used today because ladder is still heavily used and it is simple enough to cover most of the needs for industrial automation.
Bacnet is a similar protocol in terms of functionality but can not be passed over modbus because of the primitive simplicity of the modbus protocol. So you either do Bacnet over rs232, IP or another physical link/protocol like RS485/422, LonTalk, Ethernet (raw packets) or possibly over CAN as well.
Something like an E-stop button. Seriously, if something sticks there needs to be a button lever that is a fail safe brain dead simple kill switch. Something as simple as killing power to the engine CPU but leaving the brake and other systems running.
My guess is they are paid the lowest possible amount of money to stay legal and their wage stays stagnant. Companies know eventually the H1-B will move on or leave the country so they look at it long term. An American worker will eventually want more and more money the longer they stay. An H1-B knows they could be replaced by another so they may not be as aggressive is asking for more money. So they are paid a fair wage on paper but it never increases or increases very little (dollar raises, 50 cent raises etc.). In the long run the company saves money by not giving a fair raise.
It also happens to any low tier worker in a large company, foreign or not. They are disposable. The only people making money are management and possibly a few senior engineers or project leads. The rest are peons. How many H1-B's are in management? My guess is none or few if any.
NYC already has dedicated bike signals in parts of manhattan and I have even seen it in Brooklyn and Queens near bike trails.
Its a slow process but it is happening and will only get better for cyclists in NYC. But I imagine the majority of focus will be in Manhattan and Brooklyn in the areas with more hipsters and yuppies. Queens perhaps in the northern more wealthy areas like Bayside.
"I don't think I'd categorize the people executed by the cartels as innocents." Then what would you categorize them as? Please elaborate.
"If the bonds were on the other set of hands, they'd be just as happy to wield the knife."
Why would they be happy to kill in such a brutal manner? What would be their motivation to do so? The cartel shit stains are getting paid to do it and go to the extremes to send a clear message. And they aren't ordinary men, these are cold, callous monsters plain and simple.
Im not the squeamish type either but watching a person who has done nothing wrong cut up like a piece of meat is beyond fucked. The disturbing part isnt the blood or the head coming off but the fact that someone is so apathetic that they can butcher someone and not think twice. Especially if that someone has done no harm to anyone else. Those guys make serial killers like dahmer, bundy and gacy look like mouseketeers. At least they had a drive and motivation. These guys are doing it as if its nothing, just another day on the job.
I lived a block from the A train in Queens and I do remember some doors were locked, not all but some. Its like they simply forgot to unlock them. Also there was another train I used to take a lot, think it was the F from school to the Village in manhattan. I remember those doors being locked.
It is ironic as a pair of tits, hell a dude ramming another guy/girl up the ass like its the end of the world is FAR less traumatizing than a decapitation video. If someone said you child has to watch 10 hours of porn or one brutal decapitation video id let the kid watch the porn.
Good question. The other night an old coworker I was friends with posted one of those decapitation videos. I have never seen anything more disturbing in my life. A masked thug (presumably a mexican cartel goon) cuts a womans head off...... with a fucking box cutter or small knife. No quick chop and lights out. No this was a brutal murder in which this guy starts slicing around her neck like she was a side of beef until her head comes off. And she was fully conscious and alive when he started.
Why did I watch it? I honestly have no idea. Morbid curiosity perhaps? At first I thought it was fake thinking why would someone post something this fucking horrible on FB. I am sorry I did. Damn video has been haunting me for the past few days. Nothing bad but I keep thinking of it every now and then, that poor woman.
One this it does illustrate though is how the wonderful war on drugs has given those shit stains on the underwear of humanity the ability to do this almost entirely unchecked.
Back in highschool I had a friend who was one of those kids who was obsessed with the subway. His neighbor was an MTA employee for the subway and let him examine the key for the doors. The lock simply takes a zigzag shaped skeleton key with a square rejection notch cut in the center. He took a thick nail, cut the head off and then put a slit on each end. He then brazed a piece of sheet metal on each end of the key, one side for the key part and the other end for a handle. He bent the key into the shape of the lock using a clay form he pressed into an actual lock and filed out the rejection notch. The bend wasn't even square but rounded as all it needed to do was fit through the key hole. It worked perfectly and he made me one as well, I still have it around somewhere. I used to impress my friends when we wanted to switch cars and I opened the door with my key:) You just had to be sure no MTA employee or cop saw you.

The site has to be a hoax.

I believe he is talking about the "Ads related to vlc" which are at the top of the google search. In my search I get two:
Download VLC Player 2013 - Vlc.downloadster.org
and
VLC Player 2012 Download - VLC - Get The Latest Version
I am not clicking them but I am sure they contain bogus versions with crapware attached.
Thanks for that link. Ill pass it on to him.

"What have you gained from not wearing seatbelts other than perhaps a few less wrinkles on your clothes?"
They gain the smug ability to say: "Fuck-the-gubberment I ain't wearing no seat belt. dis heres a free country and I can make my own dumb decisions"
In New Jersey and Oregon you are not allowed to pump your own gas.

Kompressor said it best: We must destroy X10

Before I RTFA I too thought that a pilot was injured or killed. It should have been noted that the flight was unmanned or autonomous.

This has got to be the most bizarre Ask /. question I have ever seen posted.
A Danish amateur space/rocketeer is looking for legal advice on a primarily American site. Wow. Is it April 1st already?

Juniper Networks network operating system, JunOS, is based on FreeBSD but proprietary.
