DSL can be a weird beast. Most people think they have to go through their telco to get ISP services in reality the only thing the telco dose is provide the physical lines and routing to your ISP.
If you choose an alternate ISP rather than your telco e.g. such as myself your telco has no control on what you do with your bandwidth or how you choose share your connection. It is your ISP and your TOS that says what you can and can't do.
Cable on the other hand you only have one choice for an ISP, which is the cable company. Most cable company's lock down their network and port scan their customers looking for running services. Get caught running a service say good bye to your connection. Also in MHO @home could not keep their network up even if it was in bed with Lisa Boyle naked.
Let me first start out saying not all geeks program. Some such as my self also do hardware and networking. And I to skipped college, mostly because I did not want a 60 to 70 thousand-dollar student loan to burden me all through life.
Only formal education I have is just a High School diploma and yet I'm making more than college professors, and a person who just got out of college combined. What I have leaned from life and who I will hire in the future, would be a person not that has the little piece of paper saying, " I spent upwards of 70K to get this." I would hire the person who has experience over education any day of the week.
How do you get experience you ask? By starting on the ground floor and work your way up. That's it there is no secret just hard work starting out at the bottom.
This was taken off their web page. I'm going to voice my concerns about how I feel that the Management has a defect alright.
"If you believe a Sony Music product has a manufacturing defect, please call our Quality Management Department at 800-255-7514 (609-722-8224 in New Jersey)."
It is time we show Sony how we feel and voice are concerns, and stand up to the threat of oppression. Here is more contat info for Sony.
I mirrord most of the page and was only able to grab one picture. But you can still make out the detail of the little picture:)
Be easy on the box it is on a dsl line.
I work at a small Co-Lo and web design company in the North West. And have worked at large ones as well. And from my experience it is not all about who has the biggest and "fattest" pipes or bandwidth. It is about the people.
Ask yourself this question would you have your server housed with 100 Network Operation people running around with their heads cut off, do not know your name, and would not give you the time of day unless you flashed $100 in front of their noses, because the are so big.
Or a small company, were you know they will know your name, and are able to take the time to hear your concerns and not pass them up the food chain to middle management. I personally know every client by name and their box even better. I know each of the boxes personal quirks and their needs as well as the box owner's quirks and needs. Because it is a small company I'm in better position to do the job I love and able to pass that along to the customer.
So my suggestion is to meet the network operation personnel the real people taking care of your investment, not just the sales manager. Ask to take a look at the server room. Make sure it is clean and free from obstruction, environmentally controlled. Do not let some yahoo tell you that you need dual oc-48's to host your site. I can host a site just as well as anybody from my dsl-line. Get a feel on how well they take pride in their job, and you should be fine.

Since when has Micro$oft started to make "service processors, controllers, processor cards" I do not see anything mentioning OS reliability? Do you! To me this sounds like third party software that is configured incorrectly. But that's what you get when you have an MCSE working on SUN boxes.:) Also I would like to point out another statement on their web site article: "Windows runs 25 percent of Web sites worldwide; Sun runs 19 percent. In layman terms he is saying that what you know isn't as crucial as who you know! Which will always will hold true!
