    you get the idea.

Yes, I get the idea that you're probably one of the ones that shouldn't be smoking pot. You know, in about 18 years of smoking the stuff and being around people who do, I have never met ONE person that would behave like your described scenario. The dumb-ass giggly shtick, I always took that to be a hollywood fabrication. "Reefer Madness" and its influence springs to mind. But I guess some people just can't handle mind-altering substances.

I recall hearing about a study that tested (in simulators) driving abilities of straight, stoned, and drunk people. Guess what? The stoners tended to be the more careful, better drivers. Part of that I think is that when you're high, you know you're high, you know you need to compensate for attention-span etc. When your piss-drunk, you tend to forget that you're drunk, and figure being a complete idiot is just normal behavior.

I got 150 on an IQ test right after sucking down a huge bowl of weed. I would never have been able to do that while drunk.

Yep, remember your conservation of momentum, the bot doesn't move when it grabs the car, it should at least absorb part of the kinetic energy and have to push back, or be pulled along with the car a tiny bit. Consider a similar collision on a smaller scale, what would happen if you tried to halt a guy on a bicycle?
And notice the bot casts a shadow but the car doesn't. Totally fake. Also notice all these "tests" are done with a locked-down camera, that's a giveaway of a bad CG producer, anyone with real skills would have used a handheld camera and used move matching.

The bot does move when it grabs the car, what's bothering you appears to be that its feet are not being forced to move as a result of absorbing the force of the travelling car. Why that performance ability should identify this as a CG hoax is beyond me. You also asked us to notice that the car has no shadow. Well I'm sorry, I tried very hard to follow your imperitave but I must confess I failed: I noticed that the car does indeed have shadows. I think you need to spend some time in a room with various objects and *more than one* lightsource and see what kinds of interesting and improbable shadows you can make. Careful though, you might convince yourself your eyes are using CG tricks to fool you and you'll go psychotically insane.

Erm.. I've got gigs and gigs of the stuff, and only a very small percentage of it is home-made. The bulk of it has been lifted from pay-sites and DVD-rips or captured from video tape. Or were you talking about kiddie porn?

If Sharman networks is encouraging piracy, then gun manufacturers are encouraging murder. But you don't see Smith & Wesson getting raided. Granted it's less trivial for me to obtain a gun and make the decision to shoot somebody, but I wouldn't have that power at all if nobody was making them. And that power will likely remain available to me for the rest of my days.

By the same logic it can be said that producers of alcohol, and car manufacturers combined encourage drunk driving, because these two products are used in conjunction quite a lot, yet both industries continue to thrive unmolested.

It comes down to personal choices made by the individuals who use these products. I dislike Sharman Networks for getting into bed with BDE and their 'secret' trojan module, and as much as I'd like to see them get a smackdown, I really hope they can just walk away from this.

That better not be how the movie ends, that would suck. It totally didn't happen that way. Frodo failed in the end, he succumbed to the Ring. The day was only saved by Gollum's greed and subsequent lack of care. That's why Gandalf was never so sure that Gollum should have been killed long ago, that he might still have a purpose.

Eeek! The idea of the Scouring of the Shire as a stand-alone movie calls to mind that one Lucas did for TV, after the first trilogy was over, about the Ewoks having to save Endor or something. It would probably not suck so badly, but the association is there, and it creeps me out.

Yes, that's exactly what spoilage would be in this case. I was excited while watching the extended edition of the first movie, since I hadn't read up on what missing things were included. It was more fun that way. I clapped a lot as I saw things show up that I felt should have been there to start with. There is a cost, but the payment should be found in the joy of producing it and knowledge that you are bring entertainment to the world. It should be a weekend hobby instead of a pay for job.

Well, as a weekend musician, I've gotta say that I agree and disagree. Personally, I have no interest in getting money for anything I produce (musical, graphical, or otherwise). It is indeed for the sheer pleasure of making. However, the tradeoff for this is that I have to work 10 hours a day doing something else in order to feed myself, which means I don't have as much time (and energy, by the end of the day) to hone things out. It would be awesome if I could just work on various forms of art all day, but to do that one needs to be supported, either by the death of a rich relative or the art itself. Money is not the carrot that draws this particular donkey, but it's still a nice dream. And if it should happen someday, that my love can also be my job, I'm gonna milk it for all I can. Why not?

Joe Average buys it, it works in all his equipment as expected. Joe Haxxor buys it, rips the uncompressed audio and put mp3s on kaaza. The DRM files are for what, exactly?
