In some respects shards can be a good thing. It's nice to have a 'clean sheet of paper' when a new server is brought on-line. With long running shards, the guys at the top of the food chain are very hard to catch up with.
I only partly aggree in that I think people should support their own code. I think you learn more important lessons eating your own dog-food rather than someone else's. If you shit on your own doorstep, you have to clean it up.
If it's possible, have you thought about trying to move within your company? Tell them about your career aspirations, perhaps there are some opportunities there. It could be the foot in the door that you need.
Don't worry about rocking the boat. With your experience you could always find another tech-support job.
In the UK, 'vet' first started out life as an idiom and through time was more or less accepted as a verb in it's own right. From the reactions in the periphery media, it would appear that the US has only just adopted this word in the mainstream.
Because of the nature of this adoption, it very interestingly highlights the echo-chamber phenomenon that is endemic in modern political commentary.
GP is right. Although I don't use Microsoft products personally, I can guarantee that the serverside code won't be running on.NET. It's just not how things are done in the banking world.
It sounds like you're a client side developer so your choice is logical in that space. I'm a server side developer so I'll take Java thanks. Also Java sucks at interfacing with anything other than more Java.
You're right about that. Also, the smaller tick sizes and narrower spreads these days prevent as much useful arbitrage too.
I would assume though that if you had to choose, you would still want to have the lowest latency LSE feed you can achive as a priority over others (for a London-focused business at least). As you know, it still sees the highest trading volumes and so reflects what the current market price is with a slightly finer granularity. I'd want to have the lowest latency on that information that I could get.
Interestingly since MiFID, people are doing a lot more volume on ChiX and Xetra and the ratio vs LSE is increasing rapidly. It's not just a case of guaranteeing best execution but also reducing trading costs too. Now there's also Turquoise which in theory should be the cheapest exchange to do business on, so we'll see where that goes. Yesterday's incident can only play into their hands of th enew kids on the block...
Maybe you are onto something there. Perhaps it would be appropriate punishment to take the memories from the people affected by their crimes and cram them into the criminals head so that he personally experience the impact of what he's done. At the same time you would have to replace any positive aspects of personal gain or gratifaction that he received. The next time he considers commiting a crime, he'll have a lot more to think about...
He should buy it if he wants to play it. But following that he could install it in a sandbox (maybe sandboxie or something?), copy out the files and then NOCD patch it. A bit of a hassle but zero guilt.
I've just spotted that my city doesn't compile. I'm going to name it Detroit.
My city has more bars than normal. I make sure every java class has a "public house;".

That's fine for the techies. How on earth do you get past the HR drones?
In all seriousness, good luck with that. I hope against all probability that this actually goes somewhere. At least the negative publicity is good.
Hoaxers are the new trolls and Slashdot just fed them.
Username or password invalid. It's probably got the most face time...
Ah-ha! That answers it. I always suspected the FDA... :)
With a nick like 'oldspewey', I'm not really surprised. :)

This is probably how most religions start.
About time too. They should never have been taken down in the first place. Do no evil!
I'm ashamed that show is one of out exports. It should never have been seen outside (or even inside) of the UK.

Clearly not by many years yet. :)
Maybe it's some kind of David Lynch fan-fiction or possibly he's just taking his pills in the wrong order...

Craps? I'm sure the world is ready for that. We don't need another "Hot Toffee" scandal...
This is Google so think of their business model. Why would they want to block ads?

Gotta hate those apply fans. They're not happy until they've entered every competition and tried to get an interview for every job...
