Their favourite method was to add "NOT!!" to the end of a clearly false statement. Of course, my opinion of them in regards to comedy had the same quality.

Unfortunately, if they say anything significant, it is destroyed by the childish manner in which they argue. The nature of humanity is such that mis-informed behaviours actually work against the proclaimed purpose. One does wonder if that may be the true intended purpose of such posts.

Assuming cost of running are similar, if I need 5+ machines on a daily basis to run what others can deal adequately with 2 or 3, I would begin to worry about my 'redundancy'.

Also consider it from this perspective. Having enough engineering to take up the slack is one thing; having machines/systems constantly being swapped in and out due to failure of one part sooner or later will require an added layer of redundancy to my 'redundancy'.

I never said to not have redundancy. However redundancy should not be used for day to day running, which by most would be understood as 'normal'. I hope that is not how you plan your systems...

I don't check my dingy works with every type of maneuver every time I launch it; I just run through the basic safety check list to make sure it works with in the expected bounds. The motor on the other hand, I make sure it is running before I leave.

My point is, sure sometimes the wheels have to be re-invented, but the Chinese engineers will probably do all the 'complicated' maneuvers in one mission. Only if things are not working as expected would they pull back and re-think how to approach it. Besides, I'm not sure a human life is necessarily as valuable to the Chinese society as it is to the USAian. Individuals may consider it so, but not the society.

That is not in any way discrediting the USAian achievements, but recognise please that the Chinese will build on it, not repeat it.
