"Nintendo chief executive Satoru Iwata says consumers have yet to fully understand the console's 3D capabilities"
When asked to further clarify his statement he added "They're holding it wrong".
I'm participating in a computational physics class this year (Germany) and guess what? About 25% of the students were already using Linux. We all got a Linux introduction (quite a lot of bash stuff, but pretty easy) and a requirement for our C/C++ programs was that they had to compile and run on our lab computers that are running Linux, of course. I've seen quite a lot of new Linux installs and VMs over the course of the semester.
"There are countless ingredients that make up the human body and mind, like all the components that make up me as an individual with my own personality. Sure, I have a face and voice to distinguish myself from others, but my thoughts and memories are unique only to me, and I carry a sense of my own destiny. Each of those things are just a small part of it. I collect information to use in my own way. All of that blends to create a mixture that forms me and gives rise to my conscience."

Aren't caustics only possible with photon mapping?
The Wikipedia article about raytracing mentions that it is not necessarily photo realistic and that photon mapping gives better results but takes longer to compute...
I always wonder why so many people demand raytracing and not photon mapping.
Those specs could probably be used to build open source Windows drivers, too. There should be a few very interesting possibilities for Windows users as well if someone creates such a driver, I think.
Just to clarify:
Read this Ars Technica article about how the new trusted computing technology introduces the kind of DRM geeks have been rebelling against for years.
I think it's funny that game developers nowadays always use depth of field in games to improve the realism by not having everything in focus and now movie makers try to put everything into focus to get a more unrealistic feel.
The Bundesrat demands that the data saved for six months should be available to courts in trials about civil law (e.g. copyright infringement). This, of course, pleases the German version of the RIAA.
We're all supposed to live in a democratic civilization. Almost every western civilization was built on democratic principles. Germany, the UK and yes, even the USA.
I'm quite sure that more than 50% of the population of every western country does not consider copyright infringement a crime. Considering who has already "illegaly" burned a CD or used P2P, the percentage is probably quite a bit higher. In a proper democracy, it should therefore not be a crime. That's the way a democracy is supposed to work, isn't it?
"democracy", n.: A political system governed by the people or their representatives
I don't think the people who took part in these experiments were playing violent video games, especially considering when these experiments were conducted.
Every human can do twisted things but video games may at least allow you to vent your anger in a way that is not dangerous to others.
I think this is because it uses DirectX10 for its graphics engine. Since DX10 will only be available for Vista, it will naturally require Vista to run.
Every serious gamer will have to switch to Vista sooner or later. At least for gamers, it might not be a bad move after all (new driver model, better support for multicore CPUs and memory > 4GB,...)
"To produce the UR image, Howell simply shone a beam of light through a stencil with the U and R etched out. Anyone who has made shadow puppets knows how this works, but Howell turned down the light so much that a single photon was all that passed through the stencil."
The article as a whole might not be very clear, but this line says that only a single photon passed through.
Erm... why exactly is this modded redundant?
I think he might be referring to Impostor, a short story by Philip K. Dick.
I thought Slashdot readers would get this reference.
I forgot to mention a few popular titles on the "Index":
Every non-German version Unreal Tournament game. (The German versions don't have blood, I think)
Almost every non-German Resident Evil game.
Almost every non-German Quake game.
Almost every non-German Doom game.
F.E.A.R. (English)
Far Cry. Although developed in Germany, the English versions are on the "Index". The German version was done after the others where "indexed" to be able to sell the game in Germany, I think.
I don't know if some of these games even have a German version.
It takes a few minutes for the changes to get published on the servers. Wait for half an hour and look again.
Trolling much?

A perfect application for my patented write-only memory.

This guy would agree.
Keep your friends close and your enemies closer.
How long till the source is on TPB? Or did they apply their own DRM to the source?
I imagine "Kill me" would be a lot worse.

Just think of Daikatana.

Quite ironic, actually.
Music industry is pleased with Vorratsdatenspeicherung German article
