I don't know about Opera, but as far as I am aware, FF has preview versions 4.0 already. So if we're going to be testing the not-even-beta version of Chrome, isn't it fair comparison to do the same with the other browsers? I realize that TFA has results for FF 3.5.99 and a beta of Opera, but these are relegated to a less prominent position in the results...in contrast, Chrome's 4.x dev version is highlighted with the 2.x version is being downplayed in the results, and no mention is made of the (perhaps more relevant) Chrome 3.x beta. Not that I really care, it just seems like a bit of favouritism is playing into the presentation of this analysis...

As a user of LyX, I generally agree. However, it still is in need of improvement in a variety of areas. In particular, if you have to prepare a document that needs to be formatted in a very specific way, you better hope for one of the following:

    1) the format is simple, so not much work involved in setting it up.
    2) one of the default templates/options gives you what you need (optionally append #1 here for variations if needed)
    3) you've been provided a template (I wish...but very unlikely).
    4) you are a wizard at TeX/LaTeX/LyX, and/or you can become one (RTFM, Google, etc.).

Option #4 is available to everyone with the learning capacity, inclination, and time to spend on it. Personally, I'm lacking somewhat in at least the latter two categories (and perhaps the former as well, as I've found setting up/configuring documents in LyX to be ridiculously frustrating). I've started using LaTeX recently, but only because I could only find a template for what I needed in only that format, and unfortunately importing/exporting LaTeX is not an option (it tends to get things pretty messed up).

On the other hand, the choices in terms of configuring a given notebook machine (which is what I'm more likely to buy) typically are very limited (i.e., ram and disk type/capacity).

Plus, having the option to not pay when I'm not watching anything is also nice. The rest of the stuff I watch more randomly (e.g., news, etc.) can be obtained free OTA or online.

First time I did anything actually useful, was around Fedora Core 4 (2005) - but it wasn't actually Fedora that I did it with. I wanted to backup/resize my Windows NTFS partition, and make new partitions, and I wanted to do it without using proprietary software (I had no money, and don't agree with using pirated/cracked software). Through clueless fumbling and googling, I came across Recovery Is Possible (RIP) Linux and Knoppix, with ntfsclone and QtParted. That was pretty much it...I've had dual boot systems ever since, though I only really keep Windows only for games (which I never have time for anymore). For the times I really need MS Office, I have one legal copy that I bought and installed in a WinXP vm I run in VirtualBox. 23. Discrimination against netbooks? on Windows 7 Starter Edition — 3 Apps Only · · Score: 3, Insightful

It seems that netbooks are the primary excuse for pushing this - "most people won't need to run more than 3 apps on a netbook" - or something to that effect. In many cases, the only significant difference between today's 'netbooks' and my 6-year-old laptop is size and weight. I can tell you that I regularly run more than 3 apps on my old laptop.

Granted, I wouldn't want to be writing code or documents on the tiny screen & keyboard of a netbook. However, I don't think it's reasonable to dictate what I can do with my computer based on it's physical dimensions. I could easily find 4 things for my computer to do that don't require lots of typing/reading.

Just my $0.02. I won't be affected by this anyway, since I just wouldn't buy a machine with that version of Windows (or of course I'd just install Linux).
