She was very suprised that everyone used SMS down there. She said it was rather expensive to call someone on your cell and its $.25 to send someone an SMS. Before she left I tried to convince her to get a plan for her cell phone here that has SMS and she said it was silly.
Seriously, those in the know here that use SMS love it. Those that dont -- well poo on them.
However, its starting to have the AIM effect. One of her friends that was with us picking her up is a freshman in college and she was talking about how all her girlfriends text eachother at the mall......
You know, when this story was floating around, I would try to share it with everyone and the replies were "We wont get shit, why should I waste my time, its spam, etc."
Now I will have $13 and they will not. $13? Thats a free pizza + a good tip for the driver.
Is there a plugin that allows me to send a user a message once they sign in?
IE a person is offline and I type up a message and then fly to china and as soon as that person gets online, even though Im in Bejing they will still get that message?
Why? Logging and Offline messages! I use trillian as my client so I dont have to have multiple programs but I prefer to chat over ICQ over any of the others.
The ability to send someone a message if they are online is just great. The fact that AIM and MSN can not do this makes these two services quite frankly SUCK.
Also, last time I checked, icq was the only im client that logged all chats by default.
If you have an ICQ spam problem, just block messages from people not on your list. I havent gotten an ICQ spam in quite some time.
One of the many reasons I gladly fire up kazaa and share thousands of mp3s.
Its petty but its true.
I realize in many ways I am stealing, etc but to me this is civil disobedience. Until I see the RIAA not trying to stample on the rights of people, I will not give them or any artists associated with them one red cent.
This goes to the MPAA and... game developers as well.
Once publishers stop treating me like a criminal and puting safe disk protections on that kill the performance of a game and other crap like that, I will again start buying games.
I dunno about millions but Ive been to a handfull of houses and unistalled kazaa and reinstalled kazaa lite.
For whatever reason, I started talking to the kids (one is a freshman in highschool girl, the other a freshman in college guy, the other an 8th grade brother and sister). I basically told them that I don't care blah blah blah but just so they know, downloading an mp3 from kazaa is illegal.
They were all suprised. They had never thought of it as a legal vs illegal issue. Their reasoning: How could it be illegal if it is just there? Mind you that these are all "good kids."
I told them to not worry about it and keep on getting more songs and giving the songs out but to know it is technically illegal and to assume all the risks there in.
The highschool girl and the college guy both had me uninstall kazaa and I showed them how to rip their music with CDex and I gave them the greatness that is Winamp.... I think I like partially defended the RIAA or something and now I feel really really icky.
I am with NASA on this one (almost always a good idea to stick with NASA). From when I remember of fubar'd mars missions, its been screw ups by the programers.
Just as in the NFL when a receiver drops an easy pass and someone yells that he gets paid to catch passes like that, programers get PAID not to fuck things up.
I would kill to have one for class. I already abuse the hell out of my pocket PC for notes and the idea of a tablet PC makes me swoon!
However, if you can't think of a good use for one, YOU DON'T NEED IT!
I saw some guy this weekend at best buy picking one up who said "Well, its supposed to be the cool new thing. It will probably just sit in my desk at the office while I play golf."
Can we just pretend that he got my well written e-mail explaining that after I voted for him, I was mad he was going after video games and should focus on something meaningful like fighting the DMCA!
First, pardon all typos and mispellings -- its 7am and Im about to go to my second to last environmental geology classes. Its a presession class that goes for 9 days, 8a-12:30.
Anyways, we covered plate tectonics and this movement stuff and its very interesting.
If you need some kind of science class and you had your chem and phys in highschool and want to try something different, your university probably offers environmental geology and its an absolutely amazing class. Ive had a really easy time with it and learned quite a bit in the last 7 days.
The part about drift that I had never heard before was that pangea was not the first super continent and these plates move damn fast. eventually a new super continent will be formed just like the 4-5? that came before.
Also, those cool hotspots (Hawaii, Iceland, Yellowstone, and more) are going to be the key to geting a nuclear bomb to the earth's core if it ever stops moving...
So, is there any way to get to access to linux directories in winxp other then SMB? I take it that this story is for linux linux only stuff.
I know it gets asked a lot but I run into all kinds of random linux / networking questions from time to time and I just have no good place to discuss it. Where can I find such a haven.
I can't beleive how long IE6 has been out. WHere the hell is IE7? Microsoft at one time did this crazy thing... they broke the law but got some quick inovation going. I liked having a new browser every so often. Then IE6 came out and nothing... nothing... and more nothing.
I have since switched to Ph...Firebird. I miss not using beta software and I miss things like the google bar and the ebay bar... but I can live.
So if Microsoft decides to never release a standalone browser ever again... my question is WHO CARES?
Except stream video, right? I mean, I cant take a Mira (is that like an italian saying Mirror? Hey ma, bring me the mira) and go watch FMV while off the stand?
Ive seen the omfg thats sooo cool videos but I have to wonder about it. It seems I couldnt have it on my primary PC and I would need a compact PC w/ a Mira display to be worth while. Also, doesn't it use 802.11b + windows remote desktop action to do what it does?
And arent they available for sale? I coulda sworn when I was masturbating to all the Tablet PCs I accidently looked at one of these. I realize there is a big price difference but id rather take a tablet PC that I can run the remote desktop client on over the smart display any day.
When you can pick up an AMD AXP 2400+ for $92, why even goof with some budget celeron CPU? If you are in the mood for an upgrade and don't want to wait for A64 in September, then pick up a pretty nForce2 board like the Asus A7V8X-DX or just the A7V8X. Great board with great features (dual lan, serial ATA) and be happy!
Please excuse my ignorence when it comes down to X11 - i just know it as what gives me GUI in Linux.
Is there not just a binary X11 viewer for windows (like there is a small binary for VNC viewing)? I guess I just don't "get" how X11 works.
If we had a spare windows box, thats what I would do for this. However, it seems like over kill for just one tiny app to have a windows box just for it.
As for why VMWARE wont run, I get this error:
TrueColor at 8 bits per pixel is not supported. Try adding '-cc 3' to your X Server's command line Failed to initialize Basic X interface for the virtual machine.
As for the abuse of the license -- yea we are. Management in this case does not seem to care and neither do I. However, in the little "thanks for using our program" booklet, it shows having one computer in a central location running this program that everyone in an office can come use. I dunno why not just save the step and make that happen over the network would really change everything?
My problem is that I have been swamped so this has become a side project until we received quite a bit of memory for this box.
I dont know why I tried to run VMWare in a VNC session instead of just booting up the vmware love and vncing into that:(
Id prefer having this stuff seperated -- but its not in the cards. Basically, the box that is running vmware and this program is also the router. So hopefully I will able to get this vmware session to have an IP address and be accessible over the network.
I have an office that has this little program they need for doing insurance rating. Well, the license says that everyone in an office can use it, but it can only be installed on one machine.
So, we are trying to run it on our linux box with wine. Although the setup goes ok, running the program kinda borks. Trying to do this in Suse 8.1. I know it uses some kind of DB program but I am not very familiar with it at all.
We are trying vmware for it -- but we cant run vmware in VNC so that may be worthless (im not a linux guru, just a slacker - and I dont know of another way to get to an X session in windows).
So - I have to wonder, is there a trial version for this program so that I can see if it will even work with our application?
We moved so fast to see if we could, nobody asked if we should!
just had a girlfriend get back from the old .au
...

I love class action lawsuits!

Silly rabbits! ICQ > MSN, AOL, YIM

I can't even figure out the regular one. Hell, I am lucky I can tie my shoelaces in the morning!

Hey, eat a dick and burn in hell, mm kay?

You can thank me, I voted for him.

Feed WHAT troll?
I cant ask my questions here because they get knocked off topic (rightly so) very quickly.
I dont know of a good IRC chan that I can actually use.
What is so wrong about that?
I was hoping that MAYBE just MAYBE I could get secure access to some of the linux routers Ive setup and vice versa!
Calling someone a troll is so 1997.
I know im not in a computer simulation because if I was, and I looked really closely at an edge, I would see the jaggies.

Seriously - celeron = waste of time and money.
Can someone catch me up in three URLs or less?
I found that option but it didnt stop the problem
(as Ive said before)
