You can not bring bottled water w/ a lid into a stadium because when full, they can be EASILY tossed onto to field or into the crowd and it acts as a missle. This policy started a little while ago after quite a few people figured this out during a game (I cant remember when / where but IIRC, it was the start of last season).
I just had to throw the lid away when I went into Arrowhead.
I too used to download the 6 ISOs and burninate all the CDs. No longer.
Ill take one CDRW and burn the FTP boot disk image, boot that up and specify my FTP source and go to town. Of course, I only use Red Hat but I think this works for all major distros. The redhat one doesn't allow me to do the pretty install. I think the redhat team should jump all over that.
Its also nice because you dont download any RPMss you dont need.
Recently, someone pointed me to Suse's Open Exchange Server and I was blown away by it. I have quite a few small (2-3 people) offices that are REALLY wanting a way to share calenders and other stuff. MS's Exchange server is WAY TOO DAMN EXPENSIVE. It would seem just a simple computer running Suse's OE would be perfect! However...
I am really not a linux expert. Ive run Red Hat for years and I like it -- but its not my primary box. It just sits for web serving and ftp. Ill open up VNC and browse through it when Im doing some random stuff that eats up CPU time on this box and Ill also use it when Im at the library or something and I want to use Phoenix -- but thats about it. So, I dunno if I can handle the switch to SuSE.
Also, the other problem I have is with SuSE support. Recently they started offering This evaluation program for OE server. It sounds like $20 gets OE server and I can install it on a box running SuSE and go to town, assuming I can RTFM. I think this would be GREAT! It gives me a chance to demo this out and decide if I want to try to sell it to the small offices I do work for. However, as stupid as it sounds, $30 (after shipping) is hard to come by as a college student. So, I sent them an e-mail asking 1: How long it takes to get shipped out post order and 2: Could I just pay the $20 and download the isos? That was Monday and today is Sunday, and I didn't receive anything back from them. Considering part of the $1,250 paid for OE Server is a year of support from Suse, I need to know that they will be there.
I'd read the article posted, but it has already been slashdoted:( Are there some good community sites out there for Suse? People that actually use OE Server?
PS -- If anyone knows of any alternatives to OE Server, please let me know! I need to be able to share calenders and address books for clients running outlook 2k/XP/2k3. If you know of a way to make iCal and vCards work and well for outlook, I could even live with that.
For a long time, people just have not been willing to pay for stuff online. I mean, look at something like Fileshack. A long time ago fileshack was a little weakling but you could get files for free and fast. Well, such a service would have killed shacknews, so they launched Mercury. All the downloads you want, very fast, and tons of cool extras. A lot of people whined about paying for such a service, when you can still find the files if you look for free and sometimes just as fast. However, it seems to be catching on.
This company mentioned in the article is just going to have to keep customer service in mind. I think when a website moves from a free nature to a pay for perks, a lot of webmasters or teams don't understand what customer service is about. This is a really stupid and shameless plug, but fileshack mercury now allows you to do referals and if you refer someone, you get free service! I mean, how cool is that? This game company I hope will do something similar. Btw, if you want to sign up for fileshack, use this link. Really its quite nice and worth the few bucks, especially considering the Doom3 demo is lurking in the near future.
I really like programs like this that allow people to support those that need it. This takes place in all forms of life, from those who help out the homeless, to helping out with FSF, to giving time to the EFF!
Hell, you can even help friends get mercury fileshack service these days. They just added a referal system. Shameless plug for mercury / fileshack (demos, patches, movies, clips, and a whole lot of fun etc. -- fast and cheap. Still available for free, but pay a few bucks for no lines and faster downloads. Hell, you even get 10 megs of webspace and speakeasy doesn't care if you put nekked chicks up!
I've had T-Mobile for over a year now (and my 2nd line is right at a year) so I was thinking of switching. Why? Horrible customer service. The worse.
So, from what yall know, will I at that date (or hopefully sooner) be able to take my cell phone # with me if I switch? I may have to wait till Nov to switch:(
Obviously a lot of pro-GPL talk goes around here. Duh. I must say I love the fruits of the GPL (poor college student). However, I seem to be confused by the GPL and other "open source" licenses quite a bit. I think this has to do with the fact that I'm not a coder, so I don't think about it in that light. So, is there a site that not only answers a few of the recent FAQs on the GPL (I google'd for one and it was last updated in 2001 and was not very complete)?? Also, what about comparison on some of the finer points of some of the misc. lics?
I just got home from one VERY long day so I am pooped.
However, I am awake enough to know that Kansas, which is a state also in a budget crunch, needs to save some money. Also, considering Kansas was one of the hold out states in the MS settlement, she should be very pro OSS. Anyhoo, with midterms last week, I missed a lot of the news about Oregon (?) passing such a bill and other stuff like that.
So, if someone would be so kind to help kind of round up to sources, that would rock. A copy of this bill, the oregon bill, and others like it would help a LOT. Carlos Mayans is going to be the next mayor of Wichita (the largest city *in* Kansas) and Ive helped with his campaign. He is also former state rep. So, I would like him to get this set as a city ordinance that all municipal agencies have to consider OSS. Id also like to pass this on to the state level. But, like I said Im pooped and I need your help.
With this stuff talked about in another slashdot article, it seems that I could just use my super-human blood to hold my breath as I walk the distance and never get tired!
Call it the case of the disappearing security hole.
Initial reports of a "back door" in Microsoft Corp.'s FrontPage server software -- a deliberate security hole put in to allow illicit access -- now seem to be, for the most part, incorrect.
While Microsoft (msft) admits that a security flaw does indeed plague a software module in its Web server product, the giant software company contradicted statements by one of its managers confirming the existence of a back door with the pass phrase "Netscape engineers are weenies!"
Ive always been suprised at how many airfields dot the KS landscape! I know there are 3-4 just outside the Wichita City Limits.
http://members.tripod.com/airfields_freeman/KS/A ir fields_KS_W.htm
That talks about Hutch airport. Airplanes still fly out of there and a lot of richy-rich types fly the short drive to Hutch to do antique shopping and shit like that up there.
Lets say for whatever reason Id like to run a little blog action. Ive never really gotten into any blogs and I dont visit a single one on any kind of basis. However, Id like an easy way to basically journal. Some basic requirements:
Drop in a working apache server Be able to simply add pictures, links, etc. Cant be too complicated tho Option to keep a post private
I just want to add (since no one has answered yet) that I dont propose ANY of the above to be true. Like I said, I dont work with SQL servers so I have NO FUCKING CLUE, Im just re-hashing the rumours and I want to know what is real and what is NOT.
Ive been hearing a lot of this and thats and I was hoping to get the straight dope.
Ive read that the patch before this thing went big was a bitch. Basically it was a lot of manual this and that updating and rebooting. Basically this meant a lot of people couldnt get aproval from management to patch the server.
Some have said they applied the patch and still were vunerable.
Some have said the patch fucked their server.
Also, I think I read that the cumulitive SQL server patch that was supposed to be out a long time ago finally came out as soon as this worm hit.
Since I do NOTHING with Sql servers, I dont keep up on this. But I do have to answer to security questions and general FUD so, for those in the know -- whats true and whats not?
Obviously the door will have a battery in it. My card swipe door in my dorm has nothing to do with power. I would think it wouldnt be too hard to have it running off power and switch to battery and short ranges for when no direct current is running to it.
Am I the only one that wants bluetooth everywhere, including on my door locks, so that I can unlock my door either auto (when my cell phone + my key get close) or by entering a password (user preference)?
Among all the other cool data sync things I think bluetooth enables, the death of keys is the other cool thing I really want bluetooth for.

How long until someone gets this for everyone else in linux? I suggest a contest -- the winner gets more porn!
I have had 3 different Toshiba e335s
All three of them needed a soft reboot at least once a day
I now have a Toshiba e740 and that needs a soft reboot at least once a day
Both the e335s and the e740 have needed hard resets as well
Pocket PC devices DO crash - and they are also REALLY bitchy about giving your data back to you!
I just call myself a whore :(
Well -- all bias aside, is oes as kick ass as it looks?
Even though Im a total n00b, Ill probably have to go into this venture by myself. If I can RTFM, will I still be up a shit's creek?
One other thing no one has been able to answer, does this require that I have a FQDN?
PS - I cry to see the powered by win2k server at the bottom of your page.
FTP installs are PERFECT for this problem

My cousins took me out there and we used to drag on the old airfield. At the time you would still get in big trouble if you ever got caught.

Okay so its from back in Nov. but its still a dupe.
So okay at least they link to the new story
Okay so its not even a real dupe
Damn it, I like screaming Fire.
Another post seems to contradict the setup.bat theory
... for clarification.
Maybe the patch has changed?
