As a sidenote, I'm a slashdot reader from more than a decade ago, and I've been really disappointed to see the amount of denialism present on this issue. I remember this as a place for pragmatic, intelligent, realistic people. The Times article literally describes a real world hoax fabricated by Russia that you can look up and verify yourself on Wikipedia, in local news stories, wherever you'd like. It also has a sit down interview with a troll who worked in one of these buildings, outside of the building itself--followed by an interview with one of the 'editors' of the Kremlin's fake news outlets that employ these trolls. So let me say this, whether you're a troll yourself or a skeptic who's been duped, it doesn't matter--the truth is the truth.

The Kremlin has built an entire industry manned by thousands, whose sole purpose is to get online and sew chaos, confusion, and doubt. This isn't really true at all. Two of the highest rated news programs in America are 60 Minutes and NPR's All Things Considered (google it). They even outperform FOX News. The most critically acclaimed entertainment shows are also often the most watched shows.
The reason crap is crap, is that crap is cheap to make and good things are more expensive to make. The formula for TV is not a singular pursuit of the highest possible ratings (though that is always nice I'm sure), it's a mix of the best ratings possible for the cheapest price possible, maximizing ad revenue.
Are they at least back to back clips? I can't load it obviously, but if they're cutting anything at all, I'll just go to a torrent site. I'm not interested in a highlights reel.
My math is terrible and my method was roughly estimated, but not counting commercial time or the last 2 years (which I remember well enough) I'd say I still have about 400 hours of daily show to watch. Maybe someone not as lazy as me can give a better number.
I hope it's not too late in the thread to have this article seen, and I apologize for piggy-backing on the parents comment (hopefully it's close enough to being an on-topic response anyway), but I wanted to point out to people that one person really can change minds inside the government with a well written arguement (you'll have to read a bit to see him mentioned). I wouldn't pretend to know what might get you your 'foot in the door' in regards to changing the mind of a person subjected to lobbying and writing campaigns on a regular basis, but my suggestions are simple.
Start by not sounding partisan, you weren't always an 'activist', explain why a rational and average American like you would come to your conclusion.
On that same page, leave whatever philosophy you might have on the approach of a plutocratic revolution where corporate rule enslaves mankind for another letter -- even if you do think it's the root of the problem.
And again relating to the above, don't speak in a letter as if the recipient is the greedy benefactor of corporate dinners and exotic vacations. Even if they were, making them your villan will put them on the defensive, and no matter what perversions of rational thought are required they will find a way to justify ignoring your statements.
Don't subscribe to write-in campaigns. Form letters are already ignored, and to combat such an easily abused practice you can bet many letters will be ignored just for resembling eachother or arriving from activism websites themselves.

It's kind of ironic, because people seem to always point to the newest government monitoring program and pull out that word "Orwellian," but no one mentions Crimestop when they watch a crowd laugh at a Bush rally where a man can make a joke about flip-flopping and simultaneously allege that the justification for his decisions are both upstanding while at the same time faulty because of bad intelligence. Or he can say that his justifications were never solely disarmament, but also freedom for Arabs. And he can say this to a crowd with a generally disfavorable view towards Arabs. He can have them nod in support of renewing the PATRIOT Act so that the FBI can spy on mosques and detain Arabs indefinitely on immigration violations, and he can immediately have them cheer for sacrifice of 1,500 American lives in the name of freeing Arabs.
I consider that to actually be the most eerie and Orwellian situation I've ever experienced. Or even read about.
If you can't play offline then you should just disconnect your modem and then run steam. I always do it this way (so I can feel safe shutting down zonealarm and other stuff to speed the game up a little). It will say it can't connect and give you the option to start in offline mode.
