  3. What the hell does the first amendment have to do with what channels they put on cable? That's a purely business decision. The simple solution to this problem is to stop handing out monopolies to these giant companies. Bust them up and let the market sort it out.

    I suggest you build your own. Read up on it and then do it. It's not difficult at all and you know exactly what you have and you don't have anything you didn't want. It saves money too.

    It's not malware unless you consider windows itself malware. The update choked and then went into a loop with unending access of the hard drive causing it to take 5 minutes for chrome to open. It was a mid range dell laptop not a dirt cheap unit. You must be in tech I guess since you have their overwhelming "blame the user" mantra. Peecees, thanks to the monopoly of microsoft, are one of the few industries to get to do that and the consumers accept it.

    This reminds me of the guy that had his VCR stolen and the tape in it was him having sex with pre-teens. The burglar was so disgusted he sent the tape to the police. They DID use it to prosecute.

    Are we going to go to colonize Mars in the next 10 years? Not likely. 300 years from now? Could be. If we don't blow the planet up in the next decade or two I'll be surprised but anything can happen. Thinking it'll be soon is crazy but thinking it can't happen is not science.

    My Daughter's windows 10 computer became unusable a month ago after an update. She finally brought it to me because she needed to do some work on it. I asked her why she didn't bring it a month ago and she said she just used her phone for everything. Most people are moving from Windows to Android. Windows has made PeeCees such a fucking pain that more and more people just use their phones. The exception of course is Gamers. I spent about 3 hours fixing her piece of shit peecee and the whole time I was cursing Microsoft. I retired almost 2 years ago and haven't had to deal with it in all that time. I sure as fuck don't miss it.

  10. I remember the flame and channel wars on IRC and FidoNet. When a friend of mine signed up with his ISP (HomeNet) back in the 90s he laughed about their description of IRC in their brochure. "If you don't like being harassed, attacked, hacked and otherwise subjected to hate and vile behavior, stay off IRC. It's the Wild, Wild, West of the Internet." And that summed it up perfectly. I loved it!

    Taiwan, or as I like to call it, The Republic of China. When we agreed to quit calling it that and use Taiwan instead, that was the beginning of the end. My dad always said, back in the 60s when the Cold War was raging, that China was the real enemy. I didn't believe him but as usual he was right.

    Limit whose healthcare costs? It doubled my premiums and copays and more than doubled my catastrophic limit. The only people that made out from the Ocare fiasco were the Insurance companies. They got f*cking rich as always. Remember all those closed door committee meetings in Congress with Insurance Reps? That was us being sold out. Massive damage to help a minimum number of people with the Insurance companies reaping massive rewards.

    I can make the case that, so far, the atomic bomb has kept us from having WW3 as the major powers can't afford that kind of destruction. Better to get along somehow than bomb civilization back to the stone age. Hard to actually "win" a war when all your cities glow in the dark without electricity. The same with bio and chemical. The planet is too small for the consequences. Hell, even Hitler didn't use gas in combat. Only for ethnic cleansing in controlled environments. WWI convinced the military that gas is not an effective weapon against modern equipped armies.

  19. I abhor those damn things. The last thing I need is a tablet on my table when I sit in a restaurant. If I have a problem with staff I talk to the manager. When I am especially pleased with staff I talk to the manager. That's civilization. That damn tablet is impersonal bullshit. What are they, a fucking McDonalds? I went to Olive Garden with my wife a while back (she liked it and I ate there because I love her) and the first thing I did was put the thing on a shelf next to my table. My waitress went to bring it back and I told her I didn't want it on my table. She didn't seem to mind at all.

    Actually, they just want to know what happened. Who requested the deletion and why. Facebook should be able to answer that. For some reason they don't want to.

  25. If he doesn't sell them one someone else will. What possible difference does it make who it is? If I was a shareholder I'd want a piece of that very profitable action. If they really don't like it what they should do is OUTLAW the technology's use in the USA. I'm all for that. Plus the repeal of the fucking "Patriot" Act with it's FISA secret warrant secret court bullshit. Under a strict interpretation of the US Constitution it's not even legal but Judges like to interpret the Constitution the way they think it should have been written. This fake ass outrage over Amazon is ignoring the real problem which is that we have given way too much power to people in the federal government. They have been showing us for almost 2 decades that they are unworthy of our trust.
