This is just silly... at the speed with which technology moves, to present data you think shows a trend is a waste of time. We live in a world of rapid inovation and rampant creativity... this time next year we may be buzzing over the new wiz bang browser, regardless of today's Firefox popularity.
Don't forget about "sensitive dependence upon initial conditions", and inherant unpredictability.
I haven't signed my credit card, and just about everytime I use it, I'm asked for ID. Definitly a better verification system than just looking to see that its signed, or the signatures match.
His generosity not withstanding... this guy is single handedly responsible for creating the most hospitable environment for viruses we've ever seen. (caugh, Windows, caugh IE). Should we really be trusting him with vaccinations?
"I think right now the key lesson is this -- if you're looking for a job with instant and guaranteed success, this isn't it."
What's wrong with these people!? First they don't fully test their equipment, and it takes a determined man to show them if they don't correct for the doppler shift, they'll loose everything. Then they forget to turn on a second channel.
I'm not specially trained, I'm not a scientist, and I don't know anything about how to run their experiments, but the fuckin' Stooges could do a better job than this! Ever fly a small plane? They have a checklist for a reason... so you don't "forget" that all important step! My god, these people need to take a class: "How not to fuck up - 101"./rant
"In news today, a Sanswire Networks Stratellite lost altitude and landed on a group of 6th graders who were on a field trip to a local museum. The company quickly issued a statement expressing their regret at the incident, and that they would be sending out a special retrieval unit to reclaim the broken dirigable."
Where I work we use these iris scanners. I wear glasses for my astigmatism and the system reads just fine through my glasses, unless I turn them perpendicular to my face. Other people who work here have to remove their glasses regardless.
This guy just proved you can't walk to the North pole solo. Oh sure, perhaps you can do it alone, meaning noone closer than Canada, but quite obviously one needs a rescue crew on standby if they want to live through the attempt.
If he really wants to do this solo, next time he gets in trouble, he should walk back on his own... then I'd be impressed.
But in a serious way. This company was destroyed the moment it was decided maintaining the fscking phonebook was illegal.
Although for a short time it was great, and most certainly changed the face of audio entertainment, we can see Darwinism at work. Ideas and implementations which exist in our current tech world, exist in a hostile world, where the single greatest threat comes from the "subpoena attack". Those devices and implementations which are immune to this attack are the ones which will thrive and survive.
If it hadn't been for the destruction of Napster, I doubt there would be the flurishing of the Gnutella clients we see today. And IMHO, although Napster was great for music, Gnucleus is a far better tool for sharing information/entertainment than Napster ever was, or could ever hope to become.
An earthquake in San Francisco who'd have thunkit! I'm in Sunnyvale, of Wargames fame, closer to Gilroy than San Francisco is... I was walking for a cup of coffee, and didn't even feel it.
The ramifications of the judgement are clear, with the evil of the DMCA becoming clearer than ever.
The Corporate Giants of this country have been able to pass, what, in practice, is now a constitutional amendment outlawing speech which they find, shall we say, "obscene".
From the judgement:
The conversion accomplished by the AEBPR program enables a purchaser of an ebook to engage in "fair use" of an ebook without infringing the copyright law;... Defendent was indicted for alleged violations of [the DMCA] (emphisis added.)
I can almost hear the Equity Lords yelling "Bad Speech! You go Squish Now!"
Considering what most people use a word processor for, the occasional letter, maybe a resume, etc. It is great to see an alternative to the publishing goliaths that are the offi.
Don't get me wrong, the alternatives to M$'s bloatware in the office arena are great, but the average home user doesn't need more than what AbiWord provides. Great job!

American Hacker's claim Russian Hackers smell funny.

Stealth and camouflage!

Um, there is a *nix version, its for OS X. How soon we forget OS X is a flavor of BSD.

An excellent password management utility. With support for multiple password databases, password generation, etc.
Google may be on their way to ruling the universe, but the little backwater program gaim will forever rule IM.
Means... "you're poor, they're rich". duh
"We are the Borg. You will be assimilated. Your biological and technological distinctiveness will be added to our own. Resistance is futile."

I think its worth taking note this wasn't any kind of split decision on the court's part. No decension among the ranks, 9-0 is a strong decision.
In the world of computer viri, is revinue conserved?

As evryone knows, Mars needs women, not men... geez, when will the male centric NASA get it right!?
I'd hate to think such innovations are right around the corner, only to find they haven't been approved.

Yeah, and to just name a few: MPAA, RIAA, and WIPO.
