Re:Separate Domains for Adult-Content Sites
I think it's pretty easy to distinguish a medical or artistic site that contains nudity from "Hard-Core Ass-Pumping Barely-Legal Teens".
It may be easy for you to distinguish between those two extremes, but what happens if David Duke is in charge of the rules?
The problem is that if you allow the government to classify speech into categories and to force restrictions on certain categories, you are effectively endorsing censorship. Censorship in any form is a reduction of freedom of speech, which is against the very nature of our (American) society.
There are red-light districts and adult-only shops in the real world, but you can also get Playboy and worse at newsstands and bookstores, and you can rent pr0n videos from your local video rental place (unless it's Blockbuster, which does not have them for branding purposes).
I, for one, do not want to see National Geographic relegated to the
.xxx section of the Web by some overzealous government censor who is upset at the sight of third-world boobs. -
Re:Send 'em back to school
miss interpretation of the religion clause. saying a child can not pray in school
Umm...could you post a link to a court filing and/or reputable news article about such a case?
School prayer cases are about authority figures encouraging or leading prayer in front of a group. That's a level of coercion not at all the same as student praying on their own.
Here's some links for you. -

Re:Undue Restrictions
You may move about on public streets without restriction. But the method you choose to move about may be restricted.
You can be a passenger, you can walk, you can ride a bicycle. To operate a motor vehicle, you must have a valid license. And such license can be suspended, revoked, or simply not issued for various reasons.
Your right to move about has not been restricted. Only the method.
Various judges and coutrts agree. Idiot Legal Arguments
Some quotes:
Oklahoma
"privilege of operation a motor vehicle on the public streets is "wholly separate from the right to travel"
Utah 1987
"The ability to drive a motor vehicle on a public roadway is not a fundamental right; it is a privilege that is granted upon the compliance with the statutory licensing procedures"
Minnesota 1988
"While there exists a fundamental right to travel, neither this court, nor our [state] supreme court, nor the US Supreme Court has ever held that there exists a fundamental right to drive a moter vehicle."
Missouri 1985
"The state of Missouri, by making the licensing requirements in question, is not prohibiting Davis from expressing or practicing his religious beliefs or from traveling throughout this land. If he wishes, he may walk, ride a bicycle or horse, or travel as a passenger in an automobile, bus, airplane or helicopter. He cannot, however, operate a moto vehicle on the public highways without ... a valid operator's license." -
Re:All capital letters as a defense....legally, all capital letters signifies a corporation, or a ficticious entity.
Uhh, yes we're laughing at him. And now we're laughing at you.
From http://www.adl.org/mwd/suss4.htm:
tax evader complained of "his name being in capital letters in a prior order issued by this Court and then
... makes an incorrect reference to this form of using all capital letters as being proper only in reference to corporate entities. This is an incorrect statement of the law and ... is illustrative of [his] continued harassing and frivolous behavior." -
Idiot legal arguments: capitalized name
Heckencamp sounds like he's read the standard tax evader propaganda. These are the people that argue in tax court that the Sixteenth Amendment (income tax) was never properly ratified, etc.
A good link is http://www.adl.org/mwd/suss4.htm, which collects cases smacking down defendants who, like Heckencamp, have raised an objection to their name printed in all caps. That argument is discussed in the same breath as other winning arguments like objections to a fringe on the courtroom flag or the presence of an eagle on the flagpole.
Of particular relevance may be a relatively recent case from the 10th Circuit. Pasting from the linked document:
US v. M.L. Lindsay (10th Cir 7/1/99) _F3d_, 99 USTC para 50648, 84 AFTR2d 5102; (tax evader complained of "his name being in capital letters in a prior order issued by this Court and then ... makes an incorrect reference to this form of using all capital letters as being proper only in reference to corporate entities. This is an incorrect statement of the law and ... is illustrative of [his] continued harassing and frivolous behavior." and fined under Rule 11 -

At least ..
.. SafeSurf has changed their old SS-style logo, which was quite reminiscent of the nazi SS logo. Their new logo, however, still looks pretty creepy.

56k hate equals racismSince poor minorities are more likely to use 56k than broadband (aimed at fat white yuppie crackers) an argument could be made that favouring broadband over 56k (hell many minorities even still use 14k and 28k) is RACISM, plain and evil!
Contact Morris Dees at the Southern Poverty Law Center to stop this gross trampling on the rights of people of color by hateful white racists!
Mr. Dees has succesfully bankrupted white hate groups in court like the Klan and the American Nazi's so he would be the person most useful to bankrupt the web hate brigade.
Alternative anti-white hate civil rights groups to be contacted include the Anti-Defamation League, the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People and the Nation of Islam.

Re:I guess you're a Nazi-lover.
Being a Jew, I get so angry seeing people like you posting anti-Semite comments here and parroting Nazi propoganda. DreamSynthesis, it's your right to hate me just because of who my ancestors are, but I'm going to call you out on it, and so are all the other liberal and compassionate people in the world who will note tolerate racist drivel.
I'd seriously like you to examine why you hate Jews so much. Maybe you'll realize that you're just an intolerant farkwad and change your mind. I urge you to read some anti-racism sites... unless you're afraid to challenge your beliefs, that is.

Swindler's Lust
I thought Swindler's Lust had a good hook to it. And besides being a good song, it was cool that PE offered it as a free mp3 download from their official web site, at a time when everyone else was getting their panties in a bunch over that new "internet mp3 thing" that was "stealing money from the artists". Besides, it was a good enough pun on "Schindler's List" to get the Anti-Defamation League to denounce them. Waahh!

Collateral DamageWe can simply chalk the death of freedom of speech in the US up to collateral damage in the pursuit of higher principles such as the prior restraint of anyone who represents a threat, however remote, to the victors of WW II.

Re:Please, Gibson is nothing more than an "eAlarmi
And I'm still waiting for you to show me one example of someone being homeless and starving to death because of a DoS. Don't you have one?? Here, I'll help you get started in your research of real terrorism
I'm not saying that losing your job is not a bad thing, but it's nothing compared to being blown to bits and losing a loved one.
A 13 year old on the internet DoSing some wannabe security expert does not constitute "terrorism." Blowing up his house does. The only thing disgusting here is your belief that they are somehow the same thing.

Re:Oh my god....am I posting pro-China?
The nazi's could have been stopped with the exisiting laws of Germany. They took power and chose to disregard those laws.
as for the falun gong -- the government has the right to oppress them simply because they are scared of loosing power? That is a pretty poor argument. and as for "stamping on propaganda that could weaken ... detriment of billions of people". I figure things are already pretty detrimental in a totalitarian regime with no self determination, no rights of free speach, where dissenters are routinely beaten, tortured and killed. Sounds like the government has the best interests of the people in mind. NOT.
and read further about the nazi symbol at your link
why the resemblance is there, the nazi page explicitely says that hitler stole the symbol from various religious groups (it was a sign of good luck) and then REVERSED it. The nazi symbol is clockwise, the falun gong symbol, counterclockwise.
nice try, but your guilty by association doesn't hold up here.
wait, lets try some more guilt by association.
maybe we should associate the Chinese government with the Hitler's Germany since they are a repressive totalitarian regime that has killed MILLIONS of its own people.
just like the third reich the chinese government is evil and does not deserve to be defended. -
Re:Oh my god....am I posting pro-China?Laws that limit Nazi's from opening their mouths are just laws. Would you deny that?
In China they are worried that what happened in Hitler-Germany could happen to their society as well. Falun Gong is turning out to be a great menace to the Chinese society and they might make a bid for national power, turning China into a place where it is dangerous to be a non-member.
If the Nazi's could have been stopped with a law would you still have been against that law?
Just to make your mind up, have a look at the Falun Gong symbol. Looks familiar doesn't it?
In such an environment I do not blame the Chinese at all for stamping on dangerous propaganda that could weaken and undermine the most populous country on Earth, leading to the detriment of billions of people.

Re:TrendsYes and no, The Constition says Congress shall make no law the inibits the freedom of speach. But a private organazation can say you can't say that *HERE*. If I were to go to my local Walmart and stand on a soap box out front and shout about this or that they would be well within their rights to kick me out.
Now Universites are a different story, and Academic freedom is usualy rather wide. But even towns may limit speach in some ways as long as it is not done based on content. But for example a town could say that a group can't hold a protest outside of a school during school hours.

i was *going* to put in my two cents about the poorly phrased comments of the original message, but they have already been said. so i will simply take this time to give you some worthwhile charities that anyone (geek or non-geek) should give to, as they are well worth your time and provide some much needed services.

Even if you don't agree with my policies, please give SOMETHING to a good cause this holiday season, whether that would be PBS or NPR or one of your own pet causes. we're so saturated with "be a good capitalist" in the media, we often forget about what truly makes a good person. give it some thought... it can give you a good break from the equally abstract concept of programming. :) -
There are many roads to censorship....
...and not all of them require an actual ruling.
Kalifa does have a point. We do have the occasional dust-up over such things here in the USA, and we have also gone after foreign companies for perceived Nazi tie-ins. See this press release from the ADL for more info.
Though Pokemon is neither as disturbing as nazism or as fun as sex (or do I have those backwards?), the principle difference between here and the land of the Eiffel Tower and sub-40-bit encryption is that here the mere *threat* of legal action (as opposed to a ruling) was enough to force a Japanese corporation to change its product, which was not ever indended for consumption by Americans.
Disturbing enough for you?

Re:Strange bedfellowsAfter reading a bit about the dispute I'm still not convinced Chuck D is in the wrong, although I can appreciate your viewpoint, given Public Enemy's history.
If anyone is interested, the actual lyrics to the song can be found here.
Anyway, my interpretation of the lyrics is that Chuck D is sick of industry moguls in general making huge profits through unfair recording contracts with black musicians.
The Anti-Defamation Leagues's press release detailing their concerns can be found here.

Coward...You Guessed Wrong....Missed the point!First, Nothing is new in this world. Second, I was speaking statistically, not personally. Speaking personally, it's not about getting layed, it's about relationships. Try having a long lasting relationship without making any money. Finally, you should be careful when you talk about "our" gene pool. To whom is the "our" referring?
Didn't anyone ever tell you that Hate is a strong word... Do you spend a lot of valuable time rushing to judgement and criticizing people?
