Re:My perspective
One great game I've played recently is Safecracker basically you work your way through this mansion and crack a bunch of safes with different locking/combination mechanisms. Each safe has clues on how to break the next safe. It's lots of fun, and definitely very challenging. I even used some of the skills I learned in my computer security courses to crack some of the safes. Definitely a lot of fun and while you probably don't learn anything directly applicable, you definitely give your brain a work out.

Syberia
Syberia and Syberia II should be on that list. A truly moving story.

Re:Obvious development
Actually DVD version of "Mysterious Journey: Schizm" (http://www.adventurecompanygames.com/tac/mysteri
o us_journey/index.html), myst-style game released 3 years before Myst IV came on 2 single layer DVDs, with more than 8 GB of data. -
Re:Grim Fandango
The genre is not quite dead.
The Adventure Company, a division of Dreamcatcher Interactive, still publishes new ones. I don't know how good they are in any objective sense, but I've enjoyed the ones I've played.
Ubisoft is still publishing new entries in the Myst series; Myst 4 came out quite recently, and Myst 5 is in production.
The genre no longer rules gaming as it once did, but it's by no means dead.

Re:Finally- hope it pans out!
I'll tend to agree, but if it's done right, it may be good. F.ex. Shrek is a great 3D cartoon, quite different than the old classics of 2D cartoons, it looses some, but then again, it gains some atmosphere that wasn't there at first.
The trouble is to rewamp a 2D character into 3D, still capturing that magic, Creating a fresh new character in 3D is easier, so I'll wait and see...
There is a couple of gems regarding "3D" adventures out there, so I hope the producers get it right, and let the adventure genre live on... dont spoil the magic of the classics, use new technology if you want, but only as a tool to express the true art if needed, not because its fancy! -
Yippeee, new adventure games!
After approximately 5 years of lying dormant the adventure genre is finally getting back on steam. I guess you can say that Syberia is the game that put the adventure genre back on the map. Now there are a lot of interesting games that are youst released or in the making. Check Adventuregamers.com and Just adventure + for details! I am not in any way connected to these sites, just very interested in new adventure games. The future is looking good! If only they would start making a new Tex Murphy game!

Re:First Full Throttle, now this....
Considering all the Myst-Clones that The Adventure Company have released from European developers, I would be thrilled to see them take on a project of this magnitude. There really hasn't been a decent adventure game since The Longest Journey and Syberia, but they've got sequels in development so there's hope yet.
