Re:This is just not true
This fellow definitely built an ElectriClerk, for use in a Cthulhu themed live-action roleplaying game. Hrmm, is it wise to shake down an Elder God for its 27B-6? Other bloggers just seem to be linking to his work. Besides your man can't find any more Brazil inspired SP mods. Perhaps it's just too much work.

Re:Fresnel lenses
The ElectriClerk - made out of a Mac SE, a Underwood typewriter and a Fresnel Lens

Ultimate Mod
I think this has been posted previously, but there's always this replica of the computers from Brazil: http://www.ahleman.com/Props/ElectriClerk.html
BTW, the creator is also the director of The Call of Cthulhu, an independent film based on Lovecraft's story, which I highly recommend to Lovecraft fans and people who can deal with low-budget effects. -
Re:Brazil
Sorry if someone beat me to it allready. http://www.ahleman.com/Props/ElectriClerk.html One of the better Brazil based mods I've run across.

Re:Beautiful project
I thought it was nice, but a bit too understated by Gilliam-esque standards.
My favourite steampunk-style computer mod must be the ElectriClerk. Not nearly as practical as the keyboard in the article, but even more wonderfully anachronistic! -
They fogot my favorite!
The ElectriClerk, a retro build inspired by the computers in Brazil, including old typewriter keyboard and freznel lens, and made for a game Chtulhu Lives! It's a fully functional Macintosh, and does it ever look sweet.

Re:How very...I would have said more Brazil.
In that vein, check out the beautiful ElectriClerk -- a 1923 Underwood typewriter as a keyboard for a Mac.
-
You think that's cool..?
That's just because you haven't seen this:
The ElectriClerc
Fully functional retrofitted prop computer
Built for a game of Cthulhu Lives! that has yet to be played, this piece was inspired by the retro-futuristic machines in the movie Brazil by Terry Gilliam.

It's been done, all of it.
The Brazil-esqe, Cthulhu-esqe, retro mod: ElectriClerk Heck, there's even a mod where a whole computer got put into the case of the typewriter. Maybe Google would turn up more.

The inverse problem
i.e. using a typewriter as a computer keyboard (which some responses discuss) has been done before, and discussed here.
The ElectriClerk is quite a sight BTW, and well worth looking at for inspiration with the current topic. -
ElectriClerk - the ultimate retro computer?
Well, if you ask me then the ultimate in retro computing has already been slashdotted once before: the ElectriClerk.

Re:Brazil "Case Mod"
Remove trailing slash from URL to make it work:

Brazil "Case Mod"
Somebody has already done one, based on an Underwood typewriter and a Macintosh SE: http://www.ahleman.com/ElectriClerk.html/

The other version of this hack
I'm surprised no one has mentioned the ElectriClerk, which was definitely crafted to look like something out a Terry Gilliam film.
It's an Underwood married to the guts of an old Mac SE, with the CRT taken out of the case and put behind a fresnel lens. He even incorporated a trackball and a cobbled-together keypad. -
The ElectriClerk...
Is a full Typewriter/Mac fusion, and very slickly done, to boot. Check it out here.

ELECTRICLERK one-ups this guy
Very clever, but check this out : ELECTRICLERK is a functional prop obviously inspired by the terminals used in Terry Gilliam's Brazil , - complete with fresnel lens magnifyer and tiny b/w monitor. The guts of the thing is only a dinky old mac, but it's still a cool and flawlessly executed hack.

Re:That was Brazil
In fact, a couple of months ago there was a link that made its way through the blogs about a site where someone had made a recreation of the Brazil-style terminal, with a typewriter keyboard and fresnel lense. I think it used a working Mac SE as the guts -- very retro. The link is here, but it's coming up 503 at the moment. [Google cache, no images] Hopefully it's only down temporarily.

The ElectriClerk
Inspired by the movie Brazil, this one, which includes a number pad with trackball, is built using a 1923 Underwood and a 1988 Macintosh SE. Very retro.
