Skype is a surveillance tool - Don't use it
Why are people still using this? It's been known to be compromised by the US and Chinese governments for a long time. China even has their own "special" version ffs. https://www.amnesty.org.au/act... http://www.nartv.org/mirror/br... Maybe they realized some people they disagree with are using Linux, so they needed to make a Linux version to gather that additional intel.

Interesting read (especially the March 2007 entries). While he doesn't sound like someone I'd invite over dinner, his continued detention is disgusting. America should be ashamed of herself. -
Advice for writing a response
If you do decide to write your senators, it is a good idea to write the letter properly if you want it to be effective. Amnesty Intl. has a some good guidelines: http://www.amnesty.org.au/helpingai/letters

Re:AddendumNot all Australians are racist. In fact the majority aren't. It's just unfortunate that we have a racist (and an opportunist) as Prime Minister. Trust me there is a *SHITLOAD* of opposition here in Australia to what our government is doing to refugees.

Then there are those who are working for refugees, but don't set up websites about it.
There are hosts of similar sites, set up by those working to do good (unlike our government) on the issues of Aborigines, invading other countries and being a good global citizen.
Australia is a diverse community, about which generalisations cannot be made. I agree Australia's image is tarnished, but I also point out that a lack of shine does not sit well with many Australians.

Re:Sites inaccessible in China
Strangely enough, while Amnesty International is blocked, Amnesty's Australian site isn't.

Re:I'm an Australian, and I don't mind...
Ruddock still has his Amnesty badge from 10 years ago. In the last few years he has given up any principles he may have once believed in in order to impress Howard and further his carreer.
See the following comments from an Amnesty newsletter dated August 2000 (a year before tampa!).
" ... on television Minister Ruddock has made statements on government policicies pertaining to refugees while wearing an AI badge knowing that AI has strongly opposed these policies and taken related action on human rights grounds."
Amnesty have repeatedly asked Ruddock to resign his membership but he refuses. He prefers to walk around with his badge on and pretend to be someone he isn't.
