Re:That this is patenteable AT ALL
Its just another gesture really. Gesture interfaces are nothing new, even for silencing phones.
It's not just phones either. My CASIO watch has an arm gesture to turn the backlight on, etc.

Re:15 Seconds Quality Time with Google...OOOH, the off-market AndroidZoom app website seems to not have pulled any apps down in response to this fiasco. Searching the site for "Choopcheec" returns this:
Angry Birds Cheater by Crazy Apps
Chit Chat by Crazy Apps
Snake Kaka by Phill Dig
Angry Birds Rio Unlock by Crazy Apps
Favorite Games Backup by Crazy Apps
Gun Bros Helper by Crazy Apps
Call Ender by Crazy Apps
Angry Birds Multi User! by Crazy Apps
Bring Me Back My Droid! by Crazy Apps
Shake To Fake (Fake call) by Crazy AppsThat's 10 apps... maybe that's the rogues' gallery?

Re:Why not a tablet?
There are apps that "fake" the GPS in the Android Market Place.
http://www.androidzoom.com/android_applications/gps%20fake
I use it on my Archos 28 for developing HTML5/Google Location API pages for mobile devices.
As for tablets, the Archos 32 is a good choice. The only reason I got the 28 is because the 32 wasn't in stock when I went to buy it.
If I was more patient, I would have gotten it off Amazon

Re:Now if they could only add another rows of keys
You realize that you can download and install new soft keyboards from the market, right? (Assuming that your provider/manufacturer didn't decide that you couldn't have the market...) In fact, here's a list of soft keyboards on the market. (Granted most of these are for non-English languages, but there's a few out there that try to improve on the stock keyboard.)

Re:I might have to sway back and get an iphone..
Holy crap, that app made me smile and cry at the same time...
Android Market has reviews and popularity
... how in the hell is that "unmoderated"?From what i understand, apple does remove some total crapware once in a while from the app-store, including all those "bikini girl pictures FREE" apps which just clog up the pipes for no added value what so ever, i thought the android marketplace is completely open to any and all apps. As much as i hate apple for their approval policies, some level of QA is probably a plus (and apple is taking it way to far)

Re:I might have to sway back and get an iphone..
If this means the android market is gonna be filled up with apps made by toddlers and high-school girls.
The market is already filled up with piece of crap apps. It's just that you never see them until they become popular on the marketplace. If the majority is only using the top 1% of applications on both Android Market and Apple App Store, does it matter that at the very bottom there are spam apps made by high-school girls or not?
i just hope this doesnt result in milions upon milions of fart-apps and such, their largely unmoderated app-store is one of the reasons i want an android phone instead of an iphone, but this might become a tad painfull is left unchecked
If some people want the fart apps, let them have their fart apps. Just don't spend money on fart apps and you'll be okay. Android Market has reviews and popularity

Android phone + free app
For basic, "free" analysis you could try the Wifi Analyzer app on the Android market (perhaps one of your friends has an Android phone if you don't?) http://www.androidzoom.com/android_applications/tools/wifi-analyzer_bgn.html

Of course
Everybody loves Vuvuzela, I even made an Android app for it: http://www.androidzoom.com/android_applications/sports/vuvuzela-soccer-world-cup_hyzb.html
More than 10000 downloads in 3 days! People will soon learn how to play Vuvuzela at musical school :) -
Re:YES!
"What if I don't own a G1 and want to see what apps are on the marketplace?"
http://www.appbrain.com/ or http://www.androidzoom.com/ is a good start. True, it'd (possibly) be better if Google made it browseable themselves, but letting other sites at the data and do it works pretty well too. On the upside, with several online catalog sites you can use the one that presents the data in the way that fits you.

Re:Actually, summary is wrong.
Here's a site that gives 146 android apps that contain the phrase "open source". A similar search on an iPhone site gives 714 apps, which I think speaks well for Android's open-source support, considering that the iPhone has an order of magnitude more apps in total, and more of the iPhone "open source" search results seem to be false positives.
In general, Android is much friendlier to open source than iPhone, by providing SDKs for most environments, charging less for Android Market inclusion ($20 one-time vs. iPhone's $100 annually), and freely allowing installation of applications outside the market.
