Re:In Soviet Russia...
NO, NO, NO, it's
In Soviet Russia you buy your own information.
Equifax
Transunion
Experian
Unless you consider once a year access acceptable. Your credit report free. But that's only once a year.
Who's information is it anyway? -
Credit reports online, for free.
That one free report per year PER AGENCY is available online, no writing letters and waiting. So, you can go to the website once every 4 months and get a report from one of the agencies for free.
Available in the west and midwest for now, by September it will be available throughout the US.

Re:Worked for me
I mean, even the "freecreditreports.com" is a scam that is not free.
As mandated by the United States government, every US citizen is entitled to three free credit reports (one from each of the nationwide consumer credit reporting companies) each year: https://www.annualcreditreport.com/cra/index.jsp -
Free credit reports...
I guess it's a good thing that I can get free credit reports from each of the nationwide consumer credit reporting companies starting March 1st.

correct link to FREE credit report
> annual credit report... http://www.creditreporting.com/
FYI the "free report" offered at the top of that page snares you into a continuing service you must then cancel. For the "FREE as in required by law" annual credit report go here:

Free Credit Report!
Place a fraud alert and get a free credit report from all three credit bureaus... hmm.. sounds like a pretty good deal.. are there any drawbacks??
Lol, you read my mind. :) I wonder if you can do that an unlimited number of times. If not, then maybe the links I've pasted below will work for now. If you didn't know already, you are entitled to a free credit report annualy. See the government link, and the actual free credit report link below. http://www.ftc.gov/bcp/conline/pubs/credit/freerep orts.htm

Companies subject to FACT Act?So given that ChoicePoint recognizes that 3 of its subsidiaries are subject to the FACT act passed in 2003, does anyone have a comprehensive list of companies that are subject to the act?
I know the big 3 (Experian, Equifax, TransUnion) and being able to use annualcreditreport.com, but didn't know ChoicePoint was subject to the law (but after this, will be sure to get a copy when September rolls around). Any others people are aware of?

Re:Be calm, relax, things aren't that bad...
On the fringe of topic here, but yes the connection between behavior, identity, and credit is the most troubling you mention. I can't even see my credit score, despite a recent federal act mandating that I get occasional free credit reports, without buying it. This despite that it is my credit score which is often used to evaluate my credit worthiness.
RFID exponentially increases the importance of this question. Casinos are one frontier at which the technical issues will find their resolutions; before long though, we are going to need more concerted efforts in Congress and similar places around the world, if consumers are to be protected from what could become corporate omniscience with regard to consuming mentalities of individuals.

You can do it by mail....
... with the form at https://www.annualcreditreport.com/cra/requestfor
m final.pdf which means you don't have to open 3 'accounts' with passwords, email addresses etc. But, of course, someone could steal your application in the mail... -

Anyone ever bother reading their privacy policy? I don't feel safe after reading various bits.
