Re:National Interest?
your question about the carriers usefulness against terrorists shows two things:
1-your lack of understanding of what hte carreirs DID do
2-you also are simply preparing for the last war. There is a an essay called the 4 warriors. It describes the 4 types of combatant. It's basically a 2x2 grid. High/low tech, and Brute/Seer. ( http://www.anomalies.net/archive/Government-Invlovement/NEWCORPS.TXT ) Written in 1992, it predicted and expounded on complications arising from this asymmetrical warfare between different categories of combatant. Of interest is that essay was written at the USMC war college by Robert David Steele, which some of the people around will recognize the name. ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Robert_David_Steele )
Our military has traditionally been in between a Hightech/seer and high tech/brute, and our enemies similar. Just because our most recent conflict has been against an enemy that is lowtech/seer does not mean we should give up our militarys capabilities just to engage that type of enemy. Doing so would once again leave us unprepared to fight a battle at parity.

Titor already did it..
We've already seen bent lasers since 2000

Re:Business as usual
It's evil for the company to make a profit?
Check this out, if you have time: Black Power (bonus: it's about aluminium and electricity)
"A look at how former Ghanaian leader Kwame Nkrumah set Africa ablaze with his vision of a new industrial and scientific age. At the heart of his dream was to be the huge Volta dam, generating enough power to transform West Africa into an advanced utopia. But as his grand experiment took shape, it brought with it dangerous forces Nkrumah couldn't control, and he slowly watched his metropolis of science sink into corruption and debtIt's evil for them to earn money and make a profit that helps the people with retirement plans invested in their industry?
Is it evil to hope to make enough money to educate your children and give them a chance in life?

Re:Do read the links you mentioned
Okay...
This is not my area of expertise and not my parent post... but since you put serious time into reading.
I'll do a bit more digging.
How about:

Read this today morningand discussed it's implications on the physics of Time Travel on another board today.
The "Evicting Einstein" title of the article is misleading. IMHO, the Theory of Relativity cannot be proven incorrect...it can only be proven *incomplete*. Far too much evidence/data exists to prove the interaction of light and gravity and space-time as predicted by the GTR.
Even if the Quantum theory is proven correct, the Theory of Relativity will live on as an effect of the quantum theory - since it explains the effects of Quantum behavior on the macro-level...something that Quantum physics is not very good at. Just like the General Theory of Relativity proved that Newtonian physics was not incorrect, just incomplete, the Quantum theory will prove to be a superset of the GTR.

You forgot about The Anomalies Network - the people who used to frequent Hoagland's board went to that site's anomalies board...

Interesting soil
The dirt sticking to the wheels of Sojourner (Pathfinder) was discussed at great lengths on a board I read (bit of a crazy board full of the insane for the most part, but there are decent threads from time to time), a bunch of people yelling "it's mud, Mars is wet!" when in reality Soujourner had spun it's wheels in the dirt and essentially "dug" in the dirt... Well, that and the "dirt" is largely magnetite which is inherently magnetic.
Flash forward to today and we've got the "magic carpet", and dirt sticking to Spirit's wheels, sans digging - very interesting, and by the sounds of it also very unexpected. It will be great to find out what's making it stick, and just "how Mars works" in general.
Did I ever mention how glad I am humanity has another rover on an alien world? :) -
Come talk to us :D
Holger's site is down just now, he originally posted it here though (same image is linked in that thread, which you still won't see - slashdotted).
Actually, a few of us chat on the SlashNet IRC server Holger included (he's in the chat just now actually - he's the guy who's webserver is now on fire thx to that link :)
Come talk to us, it'll be fun! irc.slashnet.org - #anomalies -
Oh, and I am more impressed with ...... John Titor's amazing foresight: Segway predicted in Jan/2001
Search for "Ginger" (development name of the Segway), then "Scooter"
This guy oughta edit his page and remove those comments since they look pretty silly nowdays.
Yeah, hindsight is always 20/20. these comments here also look rather silly nowadays... (scroll down to section 5 for the juicy bits...). Read carefully, or you'll miss one of the double negations, and you'll find the text absolutely trivial. The irony of the text is that the author didn't foresee (at the time he wrote it) the full irony of the very phrase containing the word irony... (And yes, IIRC, that page stayed up until October... more than one full month after the event, and after featuring on cruel.com)

John Titor quotes (January 2001) about Segway&Iraq and the Segway in the same story. Cute!!
About the Segway:
Craig Cuthbert
What it IT (Ginger)? The buzz is that it revolutionizes transportation. What change happened in the early '00s that relates to this?John Titor
(2). It looks like some sort of motorized scooter. What do you think ?IT? is?About Iraq's WMD's and the war:
Are you really surprised to find out that Iraq has nukes now or is that just BS to whip everyone up into accepting the next war?

Re:No one will care by 2014.Civil War
Or by 2005 when the civil war starts right after the 2004 elections, when the Diebold machines are used to decide a president.

John Titor predicted the Segway on 2001-01-29!check here. Search for Ginger. Then search for Scooter. Then ponder the fact that it was publically announced November 2001!
So, was John Titor truly a time traveler, or just a Dean Kamen employee?
