Assange *is* better off
Ask Wikileaks, Assange, and anyone who supported them financially about how much better it is. "Better" depends entirely on whether or not you are fucking with American power.
Really?
Unlike fucking with Isreali power

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mossad#Belgium
http://www.axisoflogic.com/artman/publish/Article_21935.shtml (wtf?)or fucking with Russian power (and ignoring pre-2000 years),
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alexander_Litvinenko_poisoning

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Re-education_through_labor#Statistics
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I8Mg1hG16c0so yes, Assange is "better" off than if he fucked with any of the above. He would be dead already, not simply having some pressure exerted on him.

Stepping back
Bad day for scientific research? No. It's set back of limited duration.
Is GM food "bad"? Dunno, jury's still out on that and it really depends which camp you want to listen to.
Is the licensing and patenting of GM crops bad? Oh hell yes. The goal of "crop lock-in" is real, demonstrated and rather scary IMO.
Would this be a good time to discuss licensing or policies to halt this type of corporate behavior? Definitely. In fact it's so long overdue we may have passed the tipping point five years ago.For your consideration:
Haitian rice
Monsanto Lawsuit / canola
Monsanto Lawsuit / soybeans
Patented disease
University gene patentsI think that this imbroglio underscores the need to limit or do away with gene patents, as there is little chance that the men in white coats (or the ones in black suits that pay them) will stop their tinkering, and I'm not sure that it needs to stop.

Re:Host it or don't.
Either you stand up to things you don't like, or you remain silent forever. Good luck with your decision.
If you choose to stand up to things you don't like, you still have the choice of tactics in how to make your stand. Part of that it figuring out how to either 1) continue to remain alive and free, or 2) make it expensive for the opposition to kill or imprison you.
If I were given some hot data -- say, a copy of the "torture photos" that have made Obama lose his testicles (or perhaps to display that he never really had any) -- I would keep in mind that in order to get the information out there, I don't have to arrange for permanent hosting. I just get it out to a bunch of different places long enough for the Streisand Effect to work its magic.
My suggestion:
- Take a nice drive to a different city. Pay cash for all gas and tolls. Do some touristy stuff while you're there -- if it comes up, don't deny you were there, but don't advertise it either.
- With cash, buy a cheap wi-fi card (or USB interface) and hard drive to make your laptop clean, so the MAC address and any browser data won't be traceable to you later. Buy these at different places. Install the drive and wi-fi in your laptop and do a fresh install of your OS.
- Find a place with free wi-fi. Use it. You want a small cafe or bar that's not going to have security cameras, not a franchise. Be bland and unrememberable.
- Post the data to wikileaks, certainly. But that's a single point of failure. So also:
- Post on indymedia.
- Set up a throw-away Gmail or Yahoo mail account. E-mail copies to journalists (including major bloggers).
- Set up pages on Google Sites and any other free website provider you can find. (Use mailinator.com for registration.) Put the data up there.
- Post links to those pages on any blog that's remotely relevant.
- Optional: with cash, buy a couple of SD cards. Make like Rodrigo Rosenberg and record a video of yourself explaining that if you disappear, it's because the spooks got you. Put a copy of the video and the data in question on the SD cards. Seal in envelopes marked "open only in the event of my death or disappearance." Mail to a few people you can trust (inside another envelope, so the attention-getting message isn't visible...). Works best if you have friends/family who are the sort who would engage in a bloody campaign of vengeance against your killers, but most of us would have to settle for something less dramatic.
- Wipe the hard drive. Install bogus data on it so it looks boring. Dispose of it and the wi-fi card at an electronics recycling drop-off point.
- Utterly and completely destroy whatever media originally held the data, and dispose of the remains at several different places.

Re:...families of dead soldiers...
The "insurgents" controlling Fallujah were overwhelmingly local Iraqis, some of which were islamists. Fallujah had for a long time been a center for the resistance to the US occupation, and some of the first larger confrontations between the occupation and the Iraqis happened in Fallujah. You may remember that the citizens of Fallujah demonstrated to get the occupation forces to leave a school, but were fired upon.
This led to widespread anger in Iraq and particularly Fallujah. As the strength and resolve of the resistance grew, it were able to force the occupation out of Fallujah, and for a time Fallujah were controlled and rebuild by Iraqis. When the US decided to crush the rebellion, the local leaders wrote an appeal to Kofi Annan.
After the assault and massacre at Fallujah, the Iraqi resistance drew one important lesson: Taking control of an area were too dangerous for their families, because of the US onslaught. Thus, they shifted their strategy from large scale uprisings to hit and run tactics.

Re:Been done already
Answers:
1. Te republican party is the party of Big Business, and Big Business makes the machines. Corporate America could care less about ethics when big money is on the line. Since they make the machines, it is logical that they woudl have the easiest access to them. It doesn't help when the CEO of Diebold states that, "We will win Ohio for the Republicans at any cost." In addition, there are more republican secretaries of state than democrats. They have complete and unfettered access to the machines. Thirdly, with the way republicans are nowadays, any democrat who would attempt this would most surely be caught, while Republicans, protected by the shields I mentioned previously, would slip through undetected. Finally, more election fraud occurs before the votes are even cast, by purging voter rolls and creating undue burdens to voting.
2. Some Democrats did, but the party as a whole has been so beaten down by Republicans calling them traitors for even existing, that they suffer from battered democrat syndrome. Basically, they didn't want to look like sore losers, esepcailly when the proof is circumstantial in most cases.
3. See number 2, although many precincts have decertified Diebold machines.
There have been many stories about diebold fraud, especially in Georgia:

fiction, fact or satire?
Although i never heard of RAW, i see he was the hero during the New Age era, where
he mixed rare known facts about the Illuminati, with fiction and occasionally added
some jokes. I guess in the heydays of his work he was very popular amongst people
who knew something about this cult.
However things have changed, This Illuminati, Kaballa, Mason stuff has turned out
to be not fiction or satire but the scary truth. Just remember Hugo Chavez's
recent appearance inside the U.N. What happened at the U.N. is of major importance.
Hugo Chavez steals the show at the U.N. quoting from Noam Chomsky latest book
"Hegemony or Survival" [1]. Although wearing a normal suit, he did a almost genuine act
of exorcism from behind the council speakers table:

in the house.
"And the devil came here yesterday. Yesterday the devil came here.
Right here." [crosses himself] "And it smells of sulfur still today.
Yesterday, ladies and gentlemen, from this rostrum, the president
of the United States, the gentleman to whom I refer as the devil,
came here, talking as if he owned the world. Truly. As the owner of
the world."
The real media file can be found here :

Recently Greg Palast did a exclusive interview with Hugo Chavez from
his home in Venezuela :

So why is this a important breakthrough? It seems the tide is turning.
If Bushes hegemony was a reality, Hugo Chavez would never been able to
make this speech. Also remember that the President of Iran recently
made his heroic appearance in New York. The crock hunter may have died,
but here's the real hero :

As the plot is folding, the analogy with Tolkiens trilogy, The Lord of
the Rings, is certainly there. "The Evil Eye" on top of the pyramid is
evident. The analogy with the Ring to rule all others Rings may not
seem so straightforward. It seems that this Ring is commonly known as
the holy grail, but the holy grail is a hoax in itself. So what is the
holy grail in fact? Chris Everard from EnigmaTV made a serious attempt
[2] to explain things. He claims that the full knowledge and
understanding of a scripture called The Cabballah is what ordinary man
can give ultimate power with the culmination in power the capability to

Re:Constitutional crisis brewingWe're talking a little more serious crimes, warranting more than just impeachment. Normally, I'm opposed to necklacing though in this case I'd even suspend my aversion for pay-per-view if it were so televised. However, I'd settle for watching them go to jail. However, more likely is that his handlers' friends will tell the media the own to let it slide and cover AIDS or football or someting.
You can make fun of his crimes and those of his cabinet and staff all you want, but at the end of the day they are very serious breaches of the country's most important laws, values and morals.

Re:It's all down hill from here
Most neo-conservatives are secular Jews, often either current or ex- Troskyites or Straussians. Most in fact, at least of the original neocons, are from New York and attended CUNY in the 40's and 50's. The term neocon has been expanded in recent years, as the neocons took over the intellectual organs of conservatism and the GOP, to include any post-Cold War conservative who didn't want to roll back the US military but who wanted to find new enemies to fight (and thus justify the continued existence of the Welfare-Warfare state), who was hawkish, and pro-Israel to the point of being rabidly pro-Zionist. That would include folks like Cheney and Rumsfeld who were not originally considered neocons.
It seems this neo-conservatism is nothing more than some Fanatical Religious front not unlike the Muslim Fundamentalists

Cameras Stop Crime!! In Public office buildings.
If we really want to stop crime, we need to put cameras where we all know the serious crime takes place. That is the office buildings of public officials. We also need to tap their (OUR taxpayer dollar paid for) phones. Over night the dirty dealing and back rubbing would stop. No more BJ's in the oval office. We could even link the cameras in air traffic controllers to watch as they ignore planes that switch off there transponders and deviate from course for 20-30 minutes before they crash into the WTC. Hey, but what's with letting three or four planes all go AWOL. Not like George doesn't support going AWOL. (and he cares enough about our troops, not to attend even one funeral.)
To bad they have this thing about letting the American public know the truth about WMD's. That would have been neat to see that briefing for replay. The ability to trace this info to the source (or lack thereof) and actually hold them accountable for the 1,000 US soldiers that have died. These really are the people that need the cameras put on them because the fate of all our live are held in their hands. How long will it be before the world decides that Americans are the real threat to life and need to be controlled. If the American people won't hold elected official accountable, then somebody will have to.
What ever became of the security tapes around the Oklahoma City Federal building. These tapes hold the smoking gun of Timothy McVeigh in the last moments before the bomb blew. But they were never released due to national security.
Our government has been running amuck. We need to pull out the magnifying glass and put the cameras on them that can't be turned off. These cameras should be streamed on the net and recorded for later viewing. We also need to remove our public officials right to privacy anywhere they go so they can't make deals 'out of the office'. Just like a teenager that gets into drugs, they will loose any right to privacy, they have, because we know they can't be trusted. There has been to much trust in this country of our elected officials for way to long.

taxes, phooey
I don't see what the bitching is about. Is it "that" wrong to brand the homeless like cattle, use orphans for lab rats, during these times? During these times when al Qaeda... WHOA! THERE IS A TERRORIST ALERT. Sorry false post. Again, is there anything wrong with Big Brother coming for their fair share? Sheesh there is no conspiracy here, big brother only wants your share of the pie. Run along now, go play with Orkut. Everything is fine, there is nothing to fear. -
Re:You have no examples of supression
Looks like a good, old fashion Hippie Ass Whooping to me. Not everyone seems to agree about it though.
Maybe the truth is somewhere in the middle ... nah, it's gotta be one or the other, no way that both sides could have valid points.
To get this on topic, I predict that in the future there will be a police reality tv show called "Big Brother Beats your Ass" and protesters will make money from a line of video's called "When Cops Attack"
