Re:It this the same one they already made?
The version you're thinking of is the Roger Corman produced film from 1994. Apparently the special effects were so bad and the acting so cheesy that they scrapped the whole thing in between early marketing campaign and its release. Early teaser posters were sent out, and are now collector's items. The film is only available in bootleg, but I have seen DVD and VHS copies available on Internet auction sites.
For more information on the Corman version, check out this review on Bad Movie Planet: http://www.badmovieplanet.com/3btheater/f/fantasti cfour.html -

You have to be careful though. The wrong space chick can give you a case of space herpes.

Re:Christmas Special
I actually had to hit google to refresh my memory.
Here is a breakdown of what transpires. Keep in mind, Lucas was just trying to generate some holiday revenue. Expect little consistency with what happens in this thing and what goes on in the rest of the SW Universe.
And yes, wookies live in trees. I know, I know, intelligent, civilized bipeds with fully developed thumbs still living in trees. I, personally, would have liked to see wookies asorbing all the bad qualities of their human counter-parts. Enslaving their own population in the name of progress and creating a wookie death star that explodes the first time it's used in anger. This would have to be while it's in a critical-low orbit of an ewok dwelling planet. That way, only about half the ewoks would die instantly, the rest would suffer a slow death from the radiation released in the atmosphere.
It would only be a small victory for the Empire. -

Re:has the targeted demographic really changed? If the Bay City Rollers had a cameo in the original Star Wars, my 12-year-old self would have been pretty turned off. Thank god Lucas had a little more sense back then.
Four words, buddy:
Perhaps not the Bay City Rollers, but you've got Jefferson Starship, as well as your Art Carney, Harvey Korman, Bea Arthur and Diahann Carroll.
And really, what says "long time ago in a galaxy far far away" more than Bea Arthur? .
