Fantastic Four Teaser Trailer
Brian Renner writes "20th Century Fox will debut the teaser trailer for Fantastic Four , on January 14th, before theatrical screenings of Elektra. Only moviegoers attending Elektra showings will get this first look at Fox's epic incarnation of Marvel's first family of comic superheroes."
If the film isn't fantastic, can we get the under the Trade Descriptions Act?
Why does Jessica Alba have to be the one that's invisible? She's well fit!
The human torch is played by Chris Evans? I guess you can't get much more of a firey redhead...
internet pirates will be able to view it on the 13th.
I already saw the movie, its called the incredibles!
A classic group of beloved superheroes -OR- A nice set of...
well, nevermind, I think you all know where I'm going with this.
Electrons are free; it is moving them that becomes expensive.
clobbering time!
... this movie could only possibly look worse if Paul W.S. Anderson had written and directed.
Jessica Alba may be a fine piece of ass, but she is totally wrong for this film, as is the rest of the cast.
I almost wish this Hollywood comic book phase was over so they'd stop fucking with my childhood heros.
A classic group of beloved superheroes -AND- A nice set of...

Yahoo has an "on the set" video available for those who don't feel like waiting: http://movies.yahoo.com/movies/feature/fantasticfo ur.html
The Hulk was such a smash hit. This is going to be 4 times better.
Nothing at all like a weaker version of The Incredibles.
Scenario A) People who want to see the trailer will force themselves to go see Elektra, which they had no interest in before, only because Fox is so desperate to make some money on Elektra that they would go so far as to try to deny the power of the internet.
Scenario B) There will be a torrent posted here in 3...2...1...Who knows, we might end up with a torrent to the entire movie here before it has even been completed. Thus is the power of the internet.

-1 FLAME ON!!!
Meant to say Classic Comics/Cartoons because the Cartoons were based on Comics.
I swear, they're just doing something right with Spiderman. Even X-Men was just OK, I thought. Even the off-beat comics-to-movies (Ghost World, American Splendor) really only have appeal to total afficianados.
I'm certainly looking forward to Sin City, tho. Maybe there'll be an adaptation of some of the more oddball comics, like Mr. Natural or the Freak Brothers.
Ah, memories of my misspent youth...
The CB App. What's your 20?
Yes, and er.. yes. :)
Hollywood seems to be producing more and more movies based on classic cartoons.
None of it matters until we get the Transformers live action film.
Um, if you have to ask...
As a former movie theater employee, I can tell you it is incredibly easy to cut the trailer off of a bad movie (like Elektra) and splice it to a movie that is good.
Comic books, not cartoons.
Hellboy, From Hell, League of Extraordinary Gentlemen are a few of the movie adaptions of comic books you missed (these have never been adapted as cartoons).
Neil Gaiman suggested that the reason Hollywood like comic books as source material, is that Hollywood produceres don't like reading books.
Please. Don't. Suck.
But so far, the movies with some variation of the word "man" in the title have only done well. So, like even numbered Star Trek movies, only expect Marvel films to be good if they contain "man" or "men" in the title.
But there is always an exception (for example, Star Trek: Nemesis wasn't that great). Maybe the exception will be the Fantasic Four movie. Or maybe they can rename it, "Three Fantasic Men, and one Fantastic Woman."
Or maybe I'm a freak. Just please, please don't suck.
They're trying to churn up some ticket sales to Elektra
No sig for you!!
The Fantastic Four was done years ago already. It was so horrifically awful though that it was never released. The rumour is that the studio only made it so they could keep the rights to make it at a later date. The power of the internet brought that film to my computer when I accidentally used a Bit Torrent. I can inform you that it was terrible and that I loved it for that reason alone.
BIYC Records
I had no idea who Jessica Alba was, so I did a search. Wow! I can't believe people take the time to make fake nude pics. What's up with that? All that photoshop work must be a pain.
Because they show you what a fun good film could be then show you the main feature which is usualy nowere as as good as the trailer you just saw.
"Miramax? I thought they only made classy movies, like The Crying Game."
"Yeah, but after they made She's All That, it was all downhill."
Heck Bluntman and Chronic even got a movie of their own. This is not news.
Put identity in the browser.
Superman, Batman, Spiderman, X-Men, Hulk.. Those i actually had comics of when i was a kid, i think they are well known names around the world.
I might be wrong but i think Fantasic Four doesn't have such a big audience on this side of the Atlantic (i don't think Daredevil did well in Europe either, did it?)
Sample this!
Sad when you have to use a trailer in order to sell tickets to a crappy movie.
And Elektra is GREEK! Geez.
It was actually released to video, but then the video was pulled.
You can still find copies at gaming conventions.
All likely to be illegal, mind you, but that doesn't stop copies from being sold.
I like you, Stuart. You're not like everyone else, here, at Slashdot.
I find it inexplicable that movie producers don't let their trailers out into the wild of the Internets. If you want to put movie trailers on your website, you have to go through this incredible rigmarole - in Australia you have to purchase a license from APRA (the Australian Performing Rights Associaton), and then obtain permission from the owner/distributor of the movie to make their trailers available (legally).
When you consider that these things are essentially glorified ads, then it is somewhat irksome.
Only moviegoers attending Elektra showings will get this first look
This is unbelievably retarded. I don't understand exclusive anythings when it comes to advertising - from "exclusive" movie trailers to "exclusive" game demos. Way to deep-six your advertising campaign on day one. Especially when the cost of internet distribution of such media is effectively zero:
Step 1: Make it difficult to view your advertising.
Step 2: ???
Step 3: Somehow profit. (When nobody saw the movie / game because nobody saw the trailer / demo).
Genius. I'm the exact target audience - it's almost certain that I'm going to see both Elektra and Fantastic Four when they're release - and even I think the "exclusive" trailer is a totally stupid idea. And the MPAA thinks that *movie piracy* is causing them problems!
Cool!
Everyone outside of US will see it 6 months after its released.
Rock on!
I guess they are still trying to milk this dead cow. Hot chick just about naked. Running around with the cameras trying to catch every angle. The only problem is she is not naked.
Between Kingpin being black, and Sue Storm being Latina, I can only assume Galactus will be played by a jew. I suggest Al Franken. He rocks.
(Yes, I am joking... I'm usually PC, but I'm just looking for an excuse to peddle the idea of Al Franken as Galactus.)
Non impediti ratione cogitationus.
Am I the only one who read "Gang of Four" and then quickly started thinking about design patterns? I probably need professional help.

As a kid, my favorite comics were Siler Surfer, Captain Marvel (Marvel's Captain Marvel, whom they killed off), and the Fantastic Four. So a large part of me eagerly anticipates this, but I also can't help but wonder...Do we REALLY want cinematic versions of every frickin' comic and TV show? Maybe Hollywood could stick to ORIGINAL ideas?
Yeah, I know... Canned ideas mean more $$$$.
Still, can't they just leave some things be?!
I'm honestly torn about this.
recall folks buying tickets to Wing Commander, just to see the trailer for the new Star Wars movie?
That the Serenity trailer will be airing in this movie also.
1) They're shooting in Vancouver. Not to disparage the incredible film industry up there. But one of Spider-Man's greatest assets has to be its adherence to New York being a backdrop to the life of Peter Parker. The stories are ridiculous, anything that grounds them deeper in reality, adds character, and boosts suspension of disbelief works. And in Spider-Man it does - the city is a supporting character.
The problem isn't that they're shooting in Vancouver - it's that they're using it yet again to stand in for New York. Which only works in Jackie Chan movies where hovercrafts run rampant on the streets. There's something that's just too clean about Vancouver that doesn't translate and you know it, period.
2) It's reeking of Punisher / Daredevil and not Spider-Man / X-Men. The major difference? At their core, the charcter arcs of the latter films are totally believable and relatable. The X-Men are every societal outcast. Spider-Man is the everyman with an incredible secret life who's really, really good at something but can never sell out because of a true, guilty conscience. And he happens to be a normal person. That's what makes these films work, period. The costume changes don't matter. It's truth to the story and how people respond to them. So much so, I like to call Spider-Man 2 "The Passion of the Peter Parker"
The Fantastic Four's modern relevance and situational metaphors just aren't as compelling to a broader audience. Not in this shape and form. The lead performers may be suitable but no one has marvelled at their casting. When Hugh Jackman and Tobey Maguire first were shown as their characters, doubts faded. We knew they'd nailed the essence of their characters. Though Peter could use some more wisecracking.
I think in everything I've seen that Chiklis gets it - but the rest of the actors strike me as just blank.
3) The director made Taxi with Jimmy Fallon and Queen Latifah.
4) Again, the director made Taxi with Jimmy Fallon and Queen Latifah.
You say it like it's some sort of collective who is doing everything. It's not. It's one guy. Well, one guy and all his peeps.
Ever heard of Stan Lee, the creator of Marvel Comics? He's the producer of every single one of the movies you mentioned.
Every ten years or so he makes another try at getting them popular again. Twice since the sixties the fad has reached the movie phase (this being the second time), and he rode the fad until it died out. No really new ideas - the ideas themselves are rather timeless - just a new setting. Peter Parker actually wore bellbottoms and had 70s hair last time.
Another three decades or so and he'll probably make movies again...if he somehow finds a way to become immortal.
Mod me down and I will become more powerful than you can possibly imagine!
Indeed. And the world of hip-hop has as well, seeing as two different rappers (MF Doom & Kool Keith) have either used the name or likeness of Dr. Doom in thier work. MF Doom's recent album is replete with some pretty hysterical samples from the old Fantastic Four cartoon.
"OH SHIT, THERE'S A HORSE IN THE HOSPITAL!"
It was never released to video officially. The version that is floating around was leaked.
It's a great movie in that its sooooo bad.
I saw it the day it came out, and had no preconceptions going into it.
It was depressing, boring, and the CG effects were terrible.
Bruce Banner was utterly boring as a character, whereas his father was so over the top it was comical. The people Bruce surrpunded himself with were also boring as hell.
The fight scene with the mutant dogs was so dark you couldn't even see anything going on, which was probably a good thing because what you could see of the dogs looked underalisitc and stupid, and in general the CG was terribly done. Hulk's skin didn't look real, and while they blamed that on it being difficult to make green skin look real, they can't use that same excuse for his shorts which also looked totally fake. It's like the artists painted each with a single hue, so they looked cartoonish rather than like real objects. And Hulk could have used more dirt and specular to make parts of him look dirty and parts of him look sweaty. They just put no effort into it at all. I could go back and retouch him in photoshop and get him to look more realistic, and I'm not even a professional artist.
There wasn't even enough action. The only thing Hulk has going for him is smashing things, and he didn't even smash much.
I almost forgot to mention Dr. Strange and Silver Surfer movie projects. Miramax is planning to make a Dr. Strange flick, and 20th Century Fox has a script for Silver Surfer. I hope Fox gets Brian Singer (X-Men) to direct.
"OH SHIT, THERE'S A HORSE IN THE HOSPITAL!"
Please stop making these worthless cartoon movies!!
If you have no good ideas for movie, "borrow" some from chinese and japanese movies.
Do you actually mean THE Chris Evans, ex UK Radio DJ?
How the hell would he get a part in a Hollywood movie, surely he's unknown over there?
Must be someone else... or is it?
WTF? ROFL!!!!!!
I'm waiting for the Hollywood version of "Dennis the Menace" starring Sylvester Stallone as Dennis, Kevin Spacey as Dennis' Dad and Brad Pitt as Walter. Gnasher will, of course be provided by Hensons Animatronics.
NB. US readers should not confuse Dennis the Menace from the "Beano" with the rather lame, tame Amercian copy of the same name.
No but, yeah but, no but...
Then the inability to right-click on the ads to do "block images from this server" in Mozilla.
Then the AWESOME refresh that happens after having the web page open a few minutes while reading the story, where it transfers you to some poker gaming site.
Way to go, slashdot, you found a true winner this time!
I sense that you are attempting to mock my childhood heroes in some oblique way.
"OH SHIT, THERE'S A HORSE IN THE HOSPITAL!"
NB. US readers should not confuse Dennis the Menace from the "Beano" with the rather lame, tame Amercian copy of the same name.
The American Dennis began syndication on March 12, 1951. The other first appeared in The Beano #452 (March 17, 1951), a very long-running humorous comic book published each week in Great Britain by D.C. Thomson. Because each Beano issue, dated Saturday, went on sale the previous Monday, the two actually debuted on the very same day!
taken from toonpedia
Not to be confused with Famous 5 (http://www.techbooks.co.uk/amazon/fam-five.htm/) those fun-loving young rascals who crave danger and find themselves solving various mysteries along the way.
Nothing costs nothing
No I'm mocking Hollywood :-)
No but, yeah but, no but...
Selling movies by the commercials before them? No wonder the MPAA can survive by attacking its audiences. For every intelligent (albeit cynical) consumer there are many more who are obsessive and fanatical.
Cool. So how much do I have to pay to get Slashdot to advertise my latest movie/good/product or service here?
Serenity now!
There have been two Dr. Strange films. Okay, neither used the name Dr. Strange because they never bothered to get the legal rights and so they created an obvious clone, but it was the Doctor. One was a TV movie, and one starred Jeffrey Combs of Re-Animator fame. By the Eye of Aginimoto, they were suckingly bad and had too much MSG.
no hollywood seems to lack any creativity so they remake older movies and cartoon based movies.
at their current rate we will see the remake of ET, Close encounters and Star Wars by the end of this decade.
hollywood does not want new, fresh or different. they want what the RIAA wants... the same thing over and over and over and over again.
once in a while you get something different, but it is very rare.
Yes I enjoyed "meet the fokkers" but PLEASE let that script rest.
Hollywood is the definition of the word WHORE. because that is what they do to everything and THEN overpay the actors.
I'm tired of the overpaid actors, they are not that good to begin with. Let's get some unknowns a chance.
That was Ben Afleck not matt damon
I would pay a hunderd bucks to see an accurate real life Galactus (& not just his hand or something). How 'bout a little scene where The High Evolutionary & Galactus go at it? Or where the Hulk bends the Surfers' board, or maybe the scene where Reed Richards announces that, "Galatctus MUST LIVE!". (see how that ties into th end of the last X-men movie, what whith Dark Phoenix & all, tee-hee) The tie-in to other Marvel properties could be enourmous. Does anybody know if the Avengers are coiming to the big screen? The Scarlett Witch would be freaken' huge....(breasted that is). Actually if I had my druthers, I would want Lucas to make ROM right now. :)
It's starring skinny annoying actor Chris Evans who's famous for Not Another Teen Movie, not the UK's fat, alcoholic ex-DJ Chris Evans, who's famous for being ginger. And a twat. Hope this clears up any confusion, but since I've seen at least three "celebrity" databases that confuse the two while looking for links for this posting, somehow I doubt it... <:-/
Everything in moderation, including moderation itself
"Dennis the Menace, The Movie"? That's a totally fscked up idea!
They already did that horrible animation, didn't they? All the characters had cockney-lite accents, despite the fact the cartoon has always been created in Scotland (though, as they said, Dennis the Menace always came from where the reader came from, and the London-centric nature of British TV means that a London accent is 'generic').
And they probably couldn't sell it as Dennis the Menace in the US, for the same reason that the American Dennis the Menace cartoon was shown on British TV as just "Dennis". (As someone pointed out, the American Dennis was just a mischevous kid; the British one *was* a menace).
Brad Pitt as Walter the Softy? That brings to mind some sort of reverse Tyler Durden situation (Spoiler follows for the few that haven't seen Fight Club). Is Walter just a figment of Dennis's imagination, the soft side that he daren't expose?
Oh yeah, and Kevin Spacey as Dennis' Dad is a great idea!
"Slashdot - News and Chat Sites Deviant". (Click "homepage" link above for details).
Not on my debian box anyway. Can't view comedycentral clips either.
*sigh*
Yes, some studio (can't remember) is planning on releasing an Avengers film in 2007. And yes, it would be cool to see a film appearance by Galactus, but Hollywood has a problem with morally ambiguous antagonists, so who knows if they'll put him/it in the Silver Surfer film.
So far the best comic book adaption is X-men. Yes, x-men. Why? For starters, it is PERFECTLY CASTED. Every single actor in x-men is 100% perfect for their roles. Secondly, the movie is more true to the comic book and the original cartoon series. In the original cartoon series, rogue is like 30 years old.
I really hope that X-Men 3 will have something to do with the phoenix.
Visa's doing one of their check card commercials featuring Marvel superheroes...sounds like they're putting some money into the costumes, so I'm hoping it's good (and funny). There are details for the ad here. You know the script already...
"The Avengers can't worry about cash when they're fighting Ultron, so under his shield, Captain America carries the Visa Check Card. Because when Thor wants warm mead, the Broom Street Bar will take reservations, but they won't take American Express".
Life is hard, and the world is cruel
Actually, Stan The Man just gets a token executive producer credit and a cameo in all these movies. He's not making any/much money. Marvel owns the rights to all his work. He gets included out of reverance and also to give the films legitimacy.
The guy responsible for all the Marvel movies being produced (good or bad) is Avi Arad.
I feel like I'm reading a debate in the mind of the Comic Book Guy...
One man's Funny is another man's Offtopic.
Website slashdotted and no mirror in sight :( Anyone got a copy for us west-coast folks who just got up?
strictly speaking, hollywood didn't make clerks: kevin smith financed it on a credit card.
ed
Didn't they try making this film about 10 years ago, started filming and everything, but then it just dissapeared?
I saw a live action FF4 trailer in 2000 in a VHS version of Carnisour.
http://members.ozemail.com.au/~scunge/shazam/
That is, unless the term "first family" was being used in a presidential sort of way, but even then I'd give it to the "Big Red Cheese" and co.
This was already made They just wouldn't release it. (Never saw it but, I've heard it was that bad. I mean, not even "direct to VHS" bad, but "burn the reel" bad.)
You can see the trailer for the previous one at the begining of a flick called Carnisaur. (I'm ashamed to admit that I rented the movie not to watch it, but for the preview before it.)
If anyone knows of a leaked copy of the other version, I'd like to hear first hand what the issues with it were.
you didn't sell me "Fantastic Four," you sold me "Fantastic Floor." And I have an apartment!
No, the TV movie of Dr. Strange used that title. Never heard of the other one, though -- interesting.
I'm seeing an oscar contender shaping up here...
Treat me like a marketing stat, and I'll treat your movie like a series of ones and zeros
As I was channel surfing yesterday they annouced that they will be playing the Fantastic Four trailer on TRL today.
I'm just interested in seeing the "fantastic two"!
I'm not good in groups. It's difficult to work in a group when you're omnipotent. - Q
It's also a cheaper. Most comic books are written in screenplay format and the comic books themselves are great storyboards which they can use.
Some revision of the screenplay original and they have themselves a working script.
There aren't too many ugly super heroes, especially the female ones.
We were far better off before the ethnics were allowed to parade around.
Although Lee is often credited with being the "creator" of Marvel Comics, he actually started working there as a copyboy when it was still known as Timely Comics, founded by pulp publisher Martin Goodman. Not to take anything away from Stan...he's certainly helped make Marvel the success it is today.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stan_Lee
so only ten people are going to see it?
Hurry up and get a quick look at this site hosting the trailer before it is slashdotted too and gets pulled. http://www.themoviebox.net/movies/2005/DEFGH/Fanta stic-Four/trailer.php
Depending on the posters background, comic books are cartoons. Saturday morning tv entertainment is animated cartoons to a number of people. Check out any book on the "cartoon" industry and it will be about ink on paper/newsprint not ink on cell.
Well I've wrestled with reality for thirty five years doctor, and I'm happy to say I finally won out over it.
Plan 4 from Outer Space?
On a related note, visit http://http//movies.yahoo.com/movies/feature/fanta sticfour.html for an on-set interview with the cast. Stan Lee even makes a cameo.
Marvel seems to have learned its lesson from the abysmal Captain America movies from the 80's. In basing the plots off of the Ultimates storylines (updated for the modern era and simplified to move beyond comic book geekdom), Marvel's movies appeal to mainstream audiences without overly alienating Comic Book Guys.
I saw a screening of this when I used to work at ILM. I agree -- it was deliciously bad.
One trivia point though is that the fire effects were one of the first uses of Dynamation in a film. (Dynamation became the dynamics package in Maya).
The presenter (who did the effects) said the reason for making the film had to do with maintaining the movie rights rather than a serious attempt at making a film. I don't remember the details, but it was something like they had to make a movie within 10 years, or the rights would revert back to the previous owner.
Which is really sad, as I like Marvel's comics better than DC's for the most part.
No! It's a *SIG*. Keep the Special Interest Groups away! (Con joke!)
Yeah, It was available in sharereactor a few years ago, but I never downloaded it... :(
The movie cost 4 millon dollars to be made.
There is some info in imdb I think
Oh, yes. I have this on VHS, bought it off eBay in a very weak moment. I have watched it, and I can truly say ... the costumes of Ben Grimm and Doctor Doom are reasonably authentic, about what you'd expect on a Power Rangers budget. And the rest of this movie? Holy snot, it's bad. Take the worst movie you have ever seen, grab the "bad" knob, and twist it sharply to the left.
The final scene will stay in my scalded brain forever: Reed and Sue are newlywed, and drive off in a limo with a sunroof. Reed waves to the camera as the limo recedes away from us. It looks like they took a six foot pole and mounted his tuxedo sleeve on it.
It's not as grainy as the first one. Oh! Wait. That was a 3rd generation bootleg.
Where the leader of the "Impossibles" was flexible, but was a really smug SOB, his wife could only turn her facial skin invisible (exposing the muscles underneath), her brother whose skin would burn in normal air (and cause pain), and her dimwitted relative, whose body was one big callous. Mr. Impossible hired a bunch of super-scientists to help out in their secret research lab. Meanwhile, Hank was exposed to a chemical that turned his body into a living bomb...
Oh Wait, that was on The Venture Brothers
Q: Why didn't they cast the Fabulous 5 from Queer Eye?
...besides, Jessica Alba in a skin tight suit couldn't be all bad ;)
A: They only needed ONE flaming super hero.
(heh)
I might know what I'm talkin' about, but then again, this is Slashdot...
...or does the title immediately remind anyone else of the Famous Five and the Secret Seven?
Ceterum censeo subscriptionem esse delendam.
Long live Adam West
the Impossibles is a cool Hanna-Barbara cartoon featuring Multi-man, Coil-man and Fluid-man. thankfully it hasn't been ruined like Space Ghost (stupid talk show) or Birdman (stupid whatever it is).
David
Jessica Alba may be a fine piece of ass, but she is totally wrong for this film
I thought I read Mercedes McNab (Harmony on Buffy) was cast as Susan Storm as recently as when Angel was canceled. She seemed picture-perfect for the role. I loved Dark Angel, but
