Re:BeOS
Looks dead to me, a year ago they posted this:
With immediate effect, magnussoft Deutschland GmbH has stopped the distribution of magnussoft Zeta 1.21 and magnussoft Zeta 1.5. According to the statement of Access Co. Ltd., neither yellowTAB GmbH nor magnussoft Deutschland GmbH are authorized to distribute Zeta.

Re:We just want to see zee papers
May I ask with which nation the US is at war?
Afghanistan and Iraq for start. The attack in Somalia is in my opinion a war act as well. US is this > < close to engaging military operations in Iran and Syria. You can argue that the military activities "protect interests of US" or are "justified" but as long as US soldiers fight in foreign countries and they do not wear blue helmets and the letters UN - they are at war.Is occupation war? Methinks not.
You think wrong.occupation - the control of a country by military forces of a foreign power
war - A contest between nations or states, carried on by force, whether for defence, for revenging insults and redressing wrongs, for the extension of commerce, for the acquisition of territory, for obtaining and establishing the superiority and dominion of one over the other, or for any other purpose;
(It is ridiculous how many links returns googling for "USA war")

Re:By the corporations, for the corporations.
Just part of the cycle of power. See The Rise and Fall of Great Powers, a 1987 book about said cycle (summary is last 7 paragraphs). Economic power fosters military power; military power creates special interests, who use their newfound power to accumulate more.
to more directly answer your question:
When exactly did corporate lobbyists BECOME our government?
Post-WWII, certainly, but perhaps earlier. Before then "lobbyists" had to be more secretive... A lot of companies became rich on the second world war trade, and the U.S. has been at war ever since - Korea, Vietnam, Grenada, Panama, Gulf War I, Yugoslavia, Gulf War II (probably forgetting a couple).
There's also that perpetual "War on (certain) Drugs", which benefits some corporations greatly.
Isn't there a saying about a country with a standing army always needing an enemy to fight? -
how the government spins the stats
See Shadow Statistics for more on how the government cooks the economic reports.
US Trade Deficit: When the Sausage comes home to Roost has some good discussion on the coming consequences of the trade deficit, and how we got here. Particularly pertinent is the section at the end about the 1987 book The Rise and Fall of the Great Powers, and how the U.S. has definitively entered the "fall" stage of the power cycle.
But as you seem to indicate, few people seem to know that the federal reserve system is at the root of our poor nation's economic struggle. See the 1983 book The Misdirection Conspiracy: Or Who Really Killed the American Dream for a good history behind how the banking class (not your friendly neighborhood banker, but the Rockerfellers/Morgans/other globalist shysters) are sucking the lifeblood from the working class.
Also worth mentioning that Michael Mandeville, author of The Coming Economic Collapse Of 2006 (2003) says that the predicted collapse is well underway. The current trouble at Ford and General Motors marks an acceleration of the decline.
The present economic calamity was, of course, set in stone as soon as Nixon closed the gold window back in 1971, removing all incumbrances to out-of-control monetary growth (monetary inflation), or perhaps even as early as the establishment of the Federal Reserve system in 1913... See 1970's, redux for more on how globalization & the federal reserve bleeds america dry. -

This article talks about a project called BAMBIOS, BAMBIOS emulates a bios on the intel-based Mac's. This enables non-EFI OS's to run.

Some thoughts.
I wrote about this earlier today on bitsofnews.com. I'll save you the click and paste my thoughts here.
I am not sure how MS expects to keep pushing this down people's throats.
Most people don't want to be treated as thieves, and I can see some general backlash coming to MS from this.
I really don't see how this will, in the long run, benefit MS. Most people in the 1st world buy a computer from a major distributer, and use the (usually) legit copy of Windows from that. I'm guessing that that one-third number includes nations like India and China, where people can't afford the 1st world pricing scheme of Windows.
Oh, wait, silly me, why don't these poor people just use XP Starter Edition? Right. That's the ticket.
Do they seriously think this will decrease piracy in the 3rd world? All they've really done is cripple their product. They now have several issues to deal with.
This "Genuine Advantage" program is tantamount to legitimizing "pirated" XP. To many, I suspect it sends the message: "Ok, use pirated XP if you want, we'll just give special benefits to those who pay us." It's almost like a "shareware" model of distribution. Seeing how they are trying to push "XP Starter Edition", I seriously doubt this is their intent -- but it looks like they've emasculated that product entirely.
Simply, Pirated XP Home/Pro is still less crippled than XP SE. So for the 3rd world market, it's a choice between paying for a highly crippled OS, or getting a slightly crippled OS for free. I don't see many people paying for the privilege of less features.
This is also a potential gold mine for alternative OS's, such as the newer GNU/Linux systems pushing ease-of-install; Ubuntu, Mepis, Mandravia, Fedora spring to mind immediately, and there are many others.
Given the choice of a super-crippled SE, a somewhat-crippled XP Home/Pro, or a fully-functional GNU/Linux, GNU/Linux becomes an increasingly "no-brainer" solution. -
Bits of News
I originally posted this on http://bitsofnews.com/ but decided to post it on Slashdot also. It's a bit sad though that Debian is struggling with it's security updates, Debian used to be a nice distro but i've changed to Suse myself due to the lack og updates.

Old news!
Is'nt this a bit old news since this site allready had this news post the 23. But i surely hope that the PearPC developers sue CherryOS since it's breaking Apple's EULA (well Apple could sue them) another thing is the fact that CherryOS most likely has stolen most of its code from PearPC acording to this article from Wired.
