See subject-line, because you have hit it right on the head perfectly as far as I am concerned personally. Opera makes this the easiest to do, imo @ least, via first GLOBALLY disabling javascript on all sites (via the tools menu, preferences option, advanced tab, content item OR via tools quick preferences).

Then, I 'whitelist' (allow) a site to use javascript, when I cannot use said site without javascript (done via right-clicking on the page itself, & using the popup menu & the item entitled "Edit Site Preferences"... thus, allowing it to use javascript (& only it or others I do this for).

This cuts WAY down on the possibles of WHERE I may have gotten infested (I never really do though, because I use a HOSTS file that is kept up to date weekly if not daily, from reputable sources such as -> SpyBot "Search & Destroy" via its "immunize" feature, ZDNet's Mr. Dancho Danchev's blogspot here -> http://ddanchev.blogspot.com/ & also SRI, here -> http://mtc.sri.com/ as well as other reputable & kept-up-to-date HOSTS files listed here @ wikipedia -> http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hosts_file

Good point. I've written a piece touching this subject a few days ago. http://eraesr.blogspot.com/2009/09/design-over-technology.html I'm not a good writer by any means, but I think the point comes across well enough. I basically try to explain that the design of a game, in what measure a game achieved it's intended style, is far more important than technological bells and whistles. I focused mainly on the Wii since that is the weakest of the three consoles. The point is that a game like Lost Winds looks far better than a game thats relatively technologically advanced (The Conduit).

Major British recording artists have met to try to hammer out a truce on their views on the Mandelson-Geffen "three strikes" proposal to cut off filesharers.

Radiohead, Pink Floyd and Blur have said the proposals are unworkable and will only alienate people. However, Lily Allen has come out strongly in favour of the proposals, saying that "the fackin' slags need a good fackin' kickin'. She then accidentally exposed one of her nipples.

If she copies two more blog posts, or if anyone notices the mixtapes of other artists' music on her website, her Internet will be cut off.

James Blunt has backed Ms Allen's position strongly. Respecting his stance, filesharers across Britain have sworn never to download a James Blunt song again if they can possibly avoid it, several taking out insurance against such an event.

Jim Killock of the Open Rights Group has put forward a proposal for a small mandatory licence percentage for copyright holders, as on radio and television. "We plead with the music industry not to throw us into the mandatory licence briar patch," said Mr Killock, "in which no-one ever buys a record again otherwise as they've already paid for it. Please."

You have to educate your company's workers and restrict access in OS instead of blindly trusting your antivirus providers. See my subject-line, & IF/WHEN you add in the domainnames/hostnames of the "command & control" servers that botnets use? Then, the workstation with said newly amended HOSTS file CANNOT EVEN REACH THEM FOR NEW "ORDERS", period.

Same thing would work on servers also, no questions asked.

I've tried explaining computer technology to my retired relatives..

Me: "Ok, here's your power cable - that plugs into the back of the base unit just like your DVD player. The cable here goes to the screen just like the SCART connctor to the TV. Now this is the keyboard which is just like a typewriter keyboard, and this is the mouse...."

Relative: "What? Where's the mouse? That plastic thing there? It doesn't look much like a mouse to me. Where are it's whiskers, feet and tail?"

Me: "OK, let's call it an input device. You hold it in your hand and move it around like this. When you want to select something, you press or click the button here..."

And you don't even want to try to explain to them why they can't just use the TV remote to type in the letters of the channel they want to watch (e. C..N...N ) rather than having to type in and remember the desired channel number.

NASA is a dinosaur, a sad remnant of last century's dying paradigms. NASA's main reason for being in space is cargo delivery. If space travel was as cheap as land transportation, NASA would be a different type of agency. Unfortunately, space transportation depends on an extremely expensive, dangerous, complicated and primitive technology: rocket propulsion. NASA will never develop a solid business case that includes rocket propulsion as its principal technology. The reason is obvious. Rocket-based transportation is too damn expensive. I'm sorry but the Ares I Crew Launch Vehicle and the Orion Crew Exploration Vehicle will soon join the buggy whip and the slide rule where they belong, in the Smithsonian.

But do not let the preceding get you down because a new and fabulous era of space travel is about to be born. We are on the verge of a breakthrough in physics that will make almost every current approach to energy production and transportation obsolete. There is clear evidence that we are swimming in an ocean of clean energy, lots and lots of it. A new form of transportation and energy production technology will arrive soon, one based on the realization that we are immersed in an immense lattice of energetic particles. This is a consequence of a reevaluation of our understanding of the causality of motion. Soon, we'll have vehicles that can move at tremendous speeds and negotiate right angle turns without slowing down and without incurring damages due to inertial effects. Floating cities, unlimited clean energy, earth to Mars in hours, New York to Beijing in minutes... That's the future of energy and travel.

My advice to NASA is this; take what you can get for now but prepare yourselves to become a regulatory agency. Otherwise you'll be a mere cargo cult for aging engineers and other assorted baby boomers. Soon, space travel will be so cheap and so safe that your services as a payload delivery organization will no longer be needed. Everybody and their aunt Mary will be in the space and energy business. Sorry SpaceX. You, too, will be a mere footnote in history of space transportation.

Soon, however, all of that stuff will be history. We are on the verge of a breakthrough in physics that will make almost every current approach to energy production and transportation obsolete. Fisker Automotive, NASA, the transportation and energy production industries should brace themselves for a seismic paradigm shift.

There is clear evidence that we are swimming in an ocean of clean energy, lots and lots of it. A new form of transportation and energy production technology will arrive soon, one based on the realization that we are immersed in an immense lattice of energetic particles. This is a consequence of a reevaluation of our understanding of the causality of motion. Soon, we'll have vehicles that can move at tremendous speeds and negotiate right angle turns without slowing down and without incurring damages due to inertial effects. Floating cities, unlimited clean energy, earth to Mars in hours, New York to Beijing in minutes... That's the future of energy and travel.

My advice to energy and public policy experts is this; they would do well to meditate deeply about the writing on the wall and prepare themselves for the huge change clouds appearing on the horizon.
