    I've seen this here in Oz, smarmy TV spokesdrones telling us that the volume is no higher during the ads, this is true, as they are discussing the peak value in decibels.

    What they don't mention is the loudness (the amount of sound) has been cranked right up, which is why they are too "loud"

    When we want to discuss loudness, they always come back with irrelevant facts about volume.

    But neither of those two words describe the Australian continent, which is called Australia.
    The word Oceania describes a region of the Southern Pacific ocean

    It's so simple.

    Also When you say "our continent" what do you mean ?
    The people who would call Australia "our continent" would be usually be Australians.

    Australia is both the name of a country and a continent.
    Australasia is a term for the region, usually including New Zealand and other small Pacific countries.

    Remember the yeast is making carbon dioxide from the vegetable matter it is eating, which was removed from the atmosphere months or years ago. Nothing to do with anthropogenic climate change that is all about releasing gases that have been locked out of the atmosphere for thousands or millions of years.

    i.e. Spent my 20's....experimenting.
    I'm not sure it was pissed away, as I did learn a lot that isn't really taught anywhere, and keeping your head, while all about you are losing theirs, is a excellent ability that I feel my life experiences has given me. Early 30's decided I needed more direction, and of course I wanted to earn more than unskilled pay.
    Cisco certs were the answer for me, easier than a degree, but still requires a certain level of self discipline.

    They gave me the leverage to enter the internetworking field, in my 30's, and now with a decade of experience, I still look fairly secure even in these tough times.
    I don't even want to think about where I may be if I hadn't got those pieces of paper.
    It's almost impossible that you will be facepalming "If only I didn't have that pesky degree", and almost certain that it will be an advantage.

    The correct piece of paper, will open doors.

    You don't actually have to vote for anybody, you can of course lodge an invalid or blank polling slip.

    You do have to turn up at the polling station, and will get a fine if you don't.

    That's no longer true, it's been defined as the distance traveled by light in free space in 1â299,792,458 of a second, since the eighties.

    I try to get to Wikileaks from my Australian (state) government computer, and I'm getting a error 504.

    Exactly the type of stupidity that believes this filtering will serve any useful purpose, also believes that blocking wikileaks serves some useful purpose. They can't even begin to understand.

    We haven't even started "protecting the children" yet, and already we have a list of thousands of unpleasant sites, in the wild, and available to any determined individual of whatever age.

    I so hate seeing my money spent on such clueless "policy", the insane idea that things will be the way they wish, if they just make enough rules.

    Humanity is still evolving, it is foolish to think we can stand outside of the evolutionary process. It just probably more subtle that examples we see in the wild.

    I would suggest that there has been a very strong selective pressure towards resistance to addictive substances. Think of what distilled alcohol did to almost every aboriginal culture who encountered it and think of what Methamphetamine does to someones appearance and ability to survive in the modern world

    Also as my ancestors survived the black death, it is possible that I have a greater resistance to contracting HIV, I could be even be immune, and my genes may of already saved me.

    Evolution is still with us now, and always will be with any beings that replicate with variation. It is just slow and subtle.

    I think a different approach is required.
    "Natural Formation", which is the best current understanding in the many fields of science that we use to understand our existence.
    "Creationism", for those who think magic is involved.
    It's irrelevant which creation myth you believe, as they all involve magic.

    Which is probably the amount of money you would be prepared to "bet".
    If you were actually interested, you could probably do the research and make a good guess about which species, both extinct and extant, you would find.
    I'm up for that bet, if you actually want to bet.

    The word you are looking for is ignorant, and is often due to a lack of access to knowledge.
    To be stupid you have to ignore, deny and/or not study the current knowledge of the topic.
    The world is far from enlightened, and one of the reasons for this, is Creationist Stupidity.
