Re:Yup.
In the 90s, everybody was investing in Russia, even McDonald's had a huge restaurant built in Moscow. Learn some history - anyone who was an investor of any kind saw it as a new market like how China and India had runs a few years later. Trump isn't the problem, he's actually trying to fix the offshoring and the current bear market in China is hurting the investments of some powerful people. The problem is that not just the jobs left, but the factories and skills as well. A nearly complete restart of industry is required. It'll be expensive, but that's why a one-time repatriation of funds is allowed at a low tax rate.

Re:Motion interpolation -vs- high-frame-rate
I agree with higher frame rates. I didn't find The Hobbit jarring at all, albeit weaker thematically.
I think the bigger issue is the shitty, inconsistent quality between the different interpolation methods used.
I've seen some right shitters in big expensive TVs. (particularly curved ones!)
It ends up screwing the quality of pictures up because these films sometimes take advantage of the inherent blurriness between frames to create an effect. Interpolating gets rid of that most times.
You could add a subtle highlight in post that makes an eye reflection so much more vibrant. But through it through one of these and it could turn it in to a blurry mess. Not all, but most.Same goes with animation. The use of in-between exaggerated frames to decrease the need for adding unnecessary drawing costs but still get the same effect for the most part.
Usually you see weird things like stretched, horribly deformed faces, abnormally larger limbs and so on. ( Some people are even capable of emulating this in real life. )
The very same issue is experienced with HD scaling algorithms in some media players that attempt to upscale, or likewise the same with old games being emulated and upscaled quite horribly, usually removing a lot of the subtle details that would look fine on a CRT, but trash on an LCD / LED matrix.
Old games also usually took advantage of CRT bleeding to make smoother graphics, or even noisy textures through alternating / contrasting colors. LCDs / LEDs can't do that. (most decent emulators support emulating this now, with various different parameters you can play around with)The worst part about it in TVs though? You can't modify it. I'll be surprised if there is a single TV out there that lets you change the interpolation settings, other than turning it on or off.
At least with media players, you can pick one of dozens of algorithms out there for scaling, noise reduction, smart sharpens, etc. Each of them being better or worse depending on the media, whether it has lots of noisy terrain (forests), or clean cel-shading.
Dozens to pick from. But not on TVs.
This is why it is better to get a decent monitor, get a TV tuner (if applicable), download videos from online services (or pirate, up to you) and use your own media player. -
No More Puppies!
This must be in response to him no longer being able to see free puppies on Twitter anymore:

Re:Seriously,
The Congo is the land of ape-people, a wonderland of monkey-men and chimpoids. What passes for "human" in the Congo actually look more like
Harambe. The "people" there are gorilla-boys.Let's see, choosing between my iPhone and some expendable lesser being is a no brainer. Pick the iPhone every time.

Re:Is Hillary! Running in Germany?
But there, they call her Angela Merkel and they make her wear Harry Reid's "droopy dog" jowls.
You dare talk about jowls?

Re:I thought...
This is over the future of the species.
What an amazingly self-righteous thing to say.
I bet the Aztecs said the same thing as they slaughtered their sacrificial victims. Gotta keep the gods happy so that we can get some rain y'know!
Look, AGW isn't going to do squat to the species. Big floods, big droughts, temperature changes, deserts etc. are not going to wipe out the species. Not even close. +/- 5 degrees even 10 degrees won't even be noticed by the species. A couple cities on the coast may end up abandoned, but that has happened many times before and meanwhile the rest of the human race will carry on without even noticing or caring just like you don't even think about ancient cities like Babylon that have gone with the wind.
You get all sanctimonious about caring about human life-- like you just did-- and in the same breath are so callous about slaughtering people for simply believing differently than you do. What a perfect proof that you are only in it for virtue signalling, for self-aggrandizement, for cool-points, or for pure psychopathy. -

Re:Belgian Science gone wrong?
Americans and their "geographical" knowledge
Just some thoughts about that.
1) Take a map of the US and ask a bunch of Europeans to fill in the state names - the result will be worse than this. Much worse.
2) They seemed not to do too bad (for Americans) placing West European countries. I am a (West) European myself, but even I have problems placing some East European names on that map. Probably because that side of the map changed a LOT after I last learned about this stuff at school (about 40 years ago). -
Re:Belgian Science gone wrong?
Americans and their "geographical" knowledge. We now all seem to live in Germany suddenly... . Mendel was german that big country - how the hell can you mis it ? - next to Belgium.
He speaks perhaps of the infamous Congo Troubles?
These weren't medical from nature but had everything to do with the greed of King Leopold II and his rubber plantages. If you need to make a list of colonial crimes you will need to have a lot of time at your hands.
It is also extremely cynical to bring the Flemish government in relation with the stuff somebody from the royal family did. The flemish government is not particularly Belgium or the Royal Family minded. Flemish government is to Belgium as the Catalan government is to Spain, also wanting to get their independence. -

you are in every likelyhood quite wrong. time will show you're about as accurate as a montage from the 1900's: http://www.boredpanda.com/future-predicting-postcards-from-around-1900/
