Re:a real application for internet2Right now, Internet2 can download the entire Library of Congress in about 20 seconds.
Internet2? So how many of those Internets are there?
I guess Bush is smarter than his critics.

Yeah, him and much of Nigeria...
The Infamous 419 Scam
It's a billion dollar industry in Nigeria, and has paid for the careers of much of that nation's government.
It has, however, allowed for some very interesting counter-scams:
The "Buddy Weiserman Counter-Scam
The "David Lee Roth" Counter-Scam, with cache
The "Kieron Dykes" Counter-Scam

Speaking of Katz...From Cruel Site of the Day:
Is Your Son a Computer Hacker?
T. Reginald Gibbons of Adequacy.Org offers 10 warning signs that your son might be involved in the subversive and criminal world of hacking. I'm not sure about some of his technical expertise, but I can't argue with his advice to throw out any books by Jon Katz and petition local bookstores to remove them from the shelves. (12-06) -
A Day That Will Live In Irony
This from the Cruel Site of the Day: Eric Darton, author of the World Trade Center history Divided We Stand, in an interview last year: "One great irony of the towers is that they were built to withstand a 747 slamming into them -- the disaster scenario of a more 'innocent' era. No one in the mid-'60s, when the buildings were designed, could have anticipated that thirty years later the threat would not come from a stray airplane -- a symbol of the machine age gone awry -- but from modernity's discontents: terrorists who knew the building's true vulnerability was in its basement."

Re:Browne is pretty sharpI'm guessing it's for the same reason he's running for president when, realistically, he has no chance in hell of winning: to present intelligent (*cough*) challenges to the platforms of the major two. Unfortunately, that's how a dual-party system works; the best a third party can hope for right now is to nip at the heels of the democrats and republicans. In the end I'll probably follow conventional wisdom, hold my nose and vote; chances are, I'll go to vote and break down crying.
By the by, for your other/write-in choices, check out this site for your 'other' alternatives (Cruel site of the day). My favorite is the guy who's running so the government wills top stealing his mail.

Smells like Cruel-dot-com...
At least two of these were featured on the most excellent Cruel site of the day. In the sparkler bomb's case, like a year ago...

Related story...This reminded me of a cruel.com site a while back, regarding two twins who had massive body modifications.

Re:From the article
Has anyone else seen surges this big (from 30/min to 250/min) from other sources other that
/.?Yeah, Cruel Site of the Day. My Saga of Roter Hutmann, which relates the story of a computer science nerd who falls in love with a Turing Test program, was nominated back in May. The resulting surge in hits nearly downed my ISP's server. To this day, including May in my domain's graphical statistics program introduces a spike so large that the rest of the months bottom out near 0.

Well, they did ask people not to post it on /.
I think it was being on Cruel Site of the Day that did them in.
