  1. VFS eh? on Xfce 4.8 Released · · Score: 4, Funny

All I ask is that ThunarVFS not suck.

One of the main reasons I don't use GNOME anymore is because GnomeVFS was such a godawful piece of shit for years and years, with nobody seeming particularly concerned about it.

I would be all "Hey, I'll use the GUI to copy these files from one drive to another" and GnomeVFS would be all "Sure thing! I'll have that done sometime after the heat death of the universe!"

Don't even get me started on the SMB performance.

It works like this: You are minding your own business browsing some perfectly legitimate web site when suddenly you get a dialog box asking if you would like to execute the JavaScript in "this PDF document". There's no PDF in sight, no other windows, nothing else suspicious.

Oh, but you only get this dialog if you have JavaScript disabled in Acrobat (most people don't).

  14. Re:I remember when FASA and I were friends on FASA Studios Now Out of Business · · Score: 1

FASA Interactive was a division of FASA Corporation which (along with perpetual rights to the creation of electronic BattleTech and Shadowrun properties) was sold to Microsoft in 1999. MS dissolved FASA Interactive (so that all IP rights would be directly owned by MS) and created FASA Studio which went on to create MechAssault, the Shadowrun FPS, etc. FASA Studio is what this /. article is talking about.

FASA Corporation went out of business in 2001 and sold most of their remaining IP (including BattleTech and Shadowrun RPG properties) to WizKids Games

WizKids currently licenses Shadowrun RPG development to Catalyst Game Labs. The official site is www.shadowrun4.com (at least for now -- www.shadowrunrpg.com and www.srrpg.com will most likely return at some point).

The tabletop Shadowrun RPG is well known for its detailed "living" world, with a timeline that advances with each sourcebook published. To not use anything from that world in this game is a wasted opportunity but not a complete disaster.

The real problem is that this FPS is multi-player only. So even if it did work strictly within the canon of the tabletop game it wouldn't matter because story is not a consideration when choosing a multi-player FPS. Only things like weapon balance and running speed matter.

I keep trying to think of some way this could be a bigger waste of the Shadowrun license, but I keep drawing a blank.
