Re: Stupid
(Not the original AC)
DYAC, I suppose.

Re:Oops, my fault.
I don't think you are far off with that. The spell checker (at least in iOS) learns as you use it, and if you type I.T. a lot maybe it did decide that is the one you prefer.
Take a look at a site like DamnYouAutocorrect. The spell checker did not just decide to use some of those words in horrible context from the start. The user has likely used them routinely before.
You might have noticed it also learns names too if you routinely use ones not built in to its dictionary.

Re:Happening in Canada now too
and I've never in my lunch wanted to just hit someone as badly as I did then.
Never in your lunch? Is that some weird Canadian phrase? Or are you just hungry?
Mistype a few letters and auto-correct gets to turn a serious comment into a joke. Not quite DYAC quality, but I'm sure it will happen to us all at some point.

Re:How many can't patch?
Ah, "smart" phone auto(in)correct - making reasonably intelligent people sound like complete morons since 2006.

Re:waiting for a clue
It takes a determined idiot to make a spelling mistake when copying and pasting from a website.
Me thinks this might just be case of posting to slashnot from an iphone with auto-correct on!

Re:To Tape...
I think what you mean is 'resliver', as in reassembling a mirror from shards of glass. Everybody makes mistakes.

Re:two-hands control
Like the other guy said, the Galaxy S2 can be operated with one hand. However, writing on a qwerty keyboard with one hand is far more painful than on a T9, and qwerty on a touch screen is even worse. Try doing it while walking. With actual keys you can rely on tactile feedback in addition to your eyes, with a capacitive touch screen you enter text on the mere touch of the screen. Typing on a modern touch screen demands far more attention and is far more error prone than a T9 (and no, your beloved autocorrect doesn't improve things).
Sure, you can do it. But for some things, the touch screen is a giant leap backwards in usability.

Re:spellcheck != predictive text
Thanks for the link. While it's true it's not a true full-featured spellchecker, it does have a list of just over 500 common misspellings and their correct equivalents, so I'd argue it *is* a primitive spellchecker.
In any case, it's definitely NOT a predictive text auto-correction tool, and there's no danger of the results showing up on DYAC.

Automatic spelling correction? No problem there!
Hope it works as well as the iPhone autocorrect!

Re:Yeah, I'm sure...
Exactly, we've all see how well it works on Wikipedia..
Worse, we've seen what it does to texting.

Re:So much for the "consumption" paradigm.
Just because you can doesn't mean you should. Type a novel on your iPad which just throws 20 years of ergonomics research out the window and then come tell us about your experience with sore wrists, max typing speed, number of erroneous keys pressed. Maybe his constitution may even end up on damnyouautocorrect.com
The iPad is designed for consumption. No design elements at all in any way aid the creation of content on it. Just because some politician does something the hard way doesn't mean the device is designed for that purpose. -
Re:This is gonna be very rant like
I've been saying for years that we need to racially reform society as less and less work is available.
Whoa there! I think you've wandered into the wrong forum. Damn you autocorrect! (I hope)

Re:I have a Mac
I don't know about you but I curse at apple (phone / ipad) almost daily. With PC's dell's, hp's, and old versions of windows are also good candidates.

My favourite...
Reindeer Games:
Person A: I have like a Reindeer fetus
Person A: Fetish
Person B: ...wow... neither of those is normal
Now, maybe this is just my personal perspective, but this is one instance were auto-correct suggested something less perverse.
