How does this prevent people from being recorded without their consent when they do not buy or own these devices, and yet damn near every home and place of business does.
We already have wiretap laws for that and if they will not protect you, neither will these.
People have been saying this for 10 years. And yet, it is more stable now than ever. And even in it's bigest crash ever, it did not lose more than a few months of value. With a 10 year track record of being wrong, how long are you going to stick with this?
The first benefit is economies of scale. If everyone is using the same type of battery, there will be lots of producers of the batteries then need for their cars, and the cost will be lower.
The second benefit is if everyone standardizes on their design, they are now the de-facto market leader. So when they come out with a new thing, everyone adopts that thing. See the item above for why this is good.
PR and status. It looks good and defines them as the leader. So if you want a hybrid, do you want a Toyota or someone copying Toyota?
Last, they are also agreeing to sell components. This means they get to sell a lot of parts. That helps all the points above, and makes them some money on cars they did not build. Win, WIN! And this means there can be rapid innovation they can use without having to take risks themselves. If someone builds an amazing sport touring car, for example, and they provided the design and parts, how hard do you think it would be to have a new Lexus model?
Compare the other platforms for popular "right now" music. I love my echo, but during Christmas, most of Trans-Siberian Orchestra was Music Unlimited only. Also none of the popular Latino music. But you always find it on youtube. Unfortunately, the echo won't play youtube. Yet...
One thing that always happens... The dominant players always fall. If someone was to come up with a secure phone OS that could still access the play store or the Apple ecosystem, it would sell. (Secure meaning I decide what access an app gets.)
The only reason that there are not a lot of ISPs (Like there were in dial up days) is that it costs a lot to start one, and you do not make much money. As the prices for Comcast rise, there will be more money to be made. I know that I have an ISP plan for my neighborhood in the back of my mind if the prices rise enough to make it worth it, and I do not think I am really that special.
Doing nothing is MUCH better than a bad fix, which is the norm out of Washington. Or have you forgotten MTBE which the law first required, and then later banned.
Autonomous cars do need stripes. Stripe failure is the cause of at least one Tesla crash. Some can also catch speed signs. And are people no longer going to cross streets on foot?
The 9900K still has it because some people value speed over security.
Lots of people value speed over security. This is why some people buy motorcycles over Volvos. Or keycards over keys. It is often a valid choice. It is also why the Specter and meltdown mitigations are switchable in Linux. I have turned them off on some internal servers where security is less important. That can also save heat waste and power. Absolutes are often a bad thing...
Many companies in the space have stock valuations based on unlimited growth. Normal growth, or stasis, will be a big hit. I do not think investors understand profit and earnings rations anymore.
Boy, when Ecuador is bought, they sure go all in! The dollar really does go a long way there... And $4.2 of them even longer!

Can't help but think that a lot of this character assignation is cover so that no one is talking about how he was sold out for a $4.2 billion loan...
Wait... You know EVERYONE who made money mining bitcoin? Wow! You are a social animal!

Lots of serious, professional, LEGACY software. Which often runs better in dosbox or on WINE than it does in WinX.

It was open source. If really no one has a mirror it was not worth having!
Linux is a kernel. They run that kernel, and so they are Linux. You are talking about Gnu.
The things you miss when you actually have an email client. :)

On the home side, Linux is scary and doesn't run the right games.
Really?

Play several thousand Steam games.
Actually be productive.
Reboot when YOU want...
So install gnome panel and flashback. And you have a clean gnome 2 without hacks.
Sounds like a good reason to use KDE. :)
Not in Red Hat. Deprecated.
We could just block bgp updates from them. You got a new network? Too bad no one can find it!
Or just block bgp from China entirely. Yes, it would suck for them. So sad. :)

Bikers do this all the time. But what the OP is talking about is not allowing them to make the choice.
But there is no self driving motorcycle... And that is NOT a small group.
