Re:we need to end drug prohibition
Not to nitpick, but the cutting accuracy issue is with drugs that have a close effective and lethal dose. LSD's high potency has little to do with it.
Actually, at least in the case of MDMA, the adulterants are, in fact, the issue:
"Testing kits are needed because many pills sold on the illicit market as "ecstasy" are fake and do not actually contain MDMA. Fake pills often contain drugs more dangerous than MDMA, including dangerous drug combinations, or drugs that are especially dangerous when mixed with MDMA (as often happens if someone takes more than one pill in a night)." ----from http://www.dancesafe.org/testingkits/

Re:but.....
I agree with this, I read somewhere that drugs basically cause three problems for our society:
- Criminal activity. Both associated with the trafficing and the use of drugs. The black market for drugs empower criminal organizations by giving them an underground currency. At the same time, millions of dollars are spent policing private citizen consumers of said drugs, instead of fighting the real criminals who use drug money to further their other criminal operations.
- Indirect effects. These are problems caused by either spiked drugs, or improperly produced / stored drugs. Often times drug dealers and producers spike their product with foreign substances to enhance the addictive qualities. There are even drug testing kits for sale which allow you to test the purity of a product, to make sure you aren't getting a spiked dose.
- Direct effects. This is the effect of the drug itself on its users. Enough has been written about this that I don't feel the need to comment further.
When you legalize drugs, the first and second problem are (mostly) eliminated.
The first problem is eliminated because with no black market, drugs are no longer an 'underground currency'. Yes you will still have some black market for untaxed material, but it will be greatly reduced, dramatically reducing the power of the drug lords.
The second problem is eliminated because now drugs can be openly evaluated by third parties and the FDA. They can go through the same testing process as any other consumer product, such as cigarettes. At least people will know the risk of the product up front, instead of having to wonder whether they are buying cocaine-laced-pot, for example.
The third problem will still exist, and yes, may even increase, but as the saying goes, I'd rather deal with the challenges presented by too much freedom, rather than those resulting from too little.

Re:too bad this technology...
Here you go. "These new kits can therefore quickly and easily distinguish between real ecstasy and all the common substitute drugs on the ecstasy market, including DXM." -- http://dancesafe.org/testingkits/

Re:Stupidity or Insanity?
I don't know if they really put heroin in the fake E, that doesn't make much sense monetarily, but I'm sure there are fake pills. Anyhow, if you want to make sure your pills are real or just want some more information on the subject I've got a decent link for you.
www.dancesafe.org
They sell testing kits and have some decent information.

I prefer these little cartridges, personally
;)
I tried those C02 ones but they just tasted like someones' bad breath :P -
Re:Holy fuckActually, you're potentially wrong.
Unfortunately EFA seems to be trying to scare people with mis-information. Which is very bad. This law sucks enough already, there's no need to pretend it's worse. The list you provide is for "Adult Themes". It is possible to publish material about adult themes and still have that material decalred suitable for children, but it has to be done discreetly.
The real problems are these:
- The determination of classifications is based on a majority vote of a minority group.
- The people voting are not netizens - ie Outsiders are policing our space.
- The vote is based on a code and not a law. The code can change if they like.
- There is no requirement for the censo^h^h^h^h^h classifiers to vote from an objective position.
- The classifications are not always predicatable.
- The classifications of items have on a number of occasions changed based on public pressure.
- The law requires that citizens be able to predict that which is unpredicatable.
- Certain topics are rated RC - "Refused Classification". Promoting drug use will get you an RC. Such material is illegal.
Basically, anything you do might be illegal, because your email might get archived somewhere, and then the Classification Board might vote it as an R (or X or RC) rating.
It could well be that sites promoting the legalisation of cannabis will be considered to be promoting drug use, and therefore are RC rated.
Or maybe that would just be overt adult themes, and therefore be R rated.
But you could be lucky and get it rated MA.Who knows? How many people want to risk it?
What about a site like dancesafe. That's arguably promoting drug use. You could certainly find a group of people to sit on a board and declare it so.
If you don't want your kids to see it, then don't let them loose on the internet.

Offtopic plug for a great web site
DanceSafe.org
Check out what's really in your pill
The ratio of street pills is closing in on 50/50 MDMA only/other crap. More and more, you're starting to see crazy stuff like PCP sold as "E". I took a pill about a month ago that was mostly mescaline. Not entirely unpleasant, but very different the evening I was expecting to have.

Re:How about drug trafficing news.com?
The drug analogy has already been discussed, so both these posts are redundant.
There are plenty of sites that deal with drugs: www.erowid.org and www.lycaeum.org are good examples, as well as the many sites that report on Ectasy pill testing such as www.dancesafe.org and www.bluelight.nu.
None of these sites will tell you "all the great places to grab some dope or pickup som". iSONEWS will not tell you where or how to download CD images.
The comparisions extend even further--the Ecstasy drug testing sites will tell you which pills have DXM or other harmful chemicals, and iSONEWS will often report on any releases that have bad cracks or install problems. -
Re:I am all for free speech but...let's use an analogy to real life: what if you had a site like drugnews.com, that tells you everything about the newest drugs released, their latest effects, and maybe has a forum with various people who know how to get those drugs and whom you can email etc.
Umm, you mean sites like erowid.org, the lycaeum, dancesafe, and bluelight, just to name a few? Yeah, heaven forbid we put unbiased information on drugs on the net so that people can make informed decisions for themselves rather than having the governments FUD shoved down their throats.
Perhaps you also want to be upset about books like Pihkal, which has trip reports and labratory sythesises for hundreds of drugs? What about books like Total Synthesis which give detailed instructions for the synthesis of amphetamines? Yeah, better make those illegal, too.
For the record, I could care less about making illegal substances in my bathtub, but I think it's my right to read how they are made should I choose to put them in my body.

DrugsThis is slightly off-topic, but I hope that this post and story underscore the importance of responsible drug use. That means doing your research. Would you try to use a new program without reading the manual/man page?
Everyone should check out the resources available at places such as:
Erowid
The Lycaeum
Ecstasy.org
Dancesafe
To those that think drugs are evil, remember Prozac, Ritalin, the heart medicine you take, the pills your grandmother takes every day, and then think about just how much you actually know about the things you put in your body daily.
Do your research -- Enjoy drugs w/peace of mind.

Re:this REALLY concerns me....While I am against draconian drug legislation you're making a horrible mistake.
Addiction is a disease. It is an largely undetectable until it rears it's ugly head.
Any, I repeate any drug can set it off. Saying that marijuana is 100% harmless is not only wrong but irresponsible.
There's a reason why there's Marijuana Anonymous, just like Alcoholics Anonymous, Narcotics Anonymous, Cocaine Anonymous, etc.
It's not a matter of if a particular drug will set it off but how soon.
I agree that banning substances is not the solution, and I oppose the War On (some) Drugs that our government is waging. And I agree that banning substances is not the answer.
The answer is education.
Eventually I hope we are able to detect diseases like addiction early and save people a lot of pain.
An example of someone doing it right is dancesafe who preach harm reduction. But even they would be censored by this bill.

Re:Drugs are a riskinformation about the possible neurotoxicity and other harmful effects of MDMA is available at www.dancesafe.org, a harm-reduction organization. they have an online slideshow that is very informative. they also discuss possible methods for avoiding harmful effects.
there is also extensive information at both ecstacy.org and erowid.org.
note that these websites may not be work-safe depending on how uptight your employer is.
