Read Hsu's license. It's a 4 clause BSD license, which _REQUIRES_ attribution, since it has that advertisement clause added back in. It's just different from the usual BSD license. If you would have bothered to read DragonFly's source of the TCP stack, you would have known.

Oh, you were wondering where you could read the source? Well, DragonFly's cvsweb has a nice interface for it. You can also compare codebases at lxr.watson.org.

Also, DFBSD has diverged from FreeBSD 4 a great deal already. The userland might be mostly the same, but kernelwise it's all different. The developers put a lot of time and effort in it. The fact that you don't see the difference means that they are doing their work correctly. So to say that it is *entirely* based off of it is completely false. It also has bits from NetBSD and OpenBSD.

For the record, I don't give a hoot if they take code from DragonFly. The guys working on DF should be credited for their work, that's all.

Umm.. I'm not anti-DFBSD and pro-FBSD, but I do think this is absolutely stupid. You want to see attribution from FreeBSD to DragonflyBSD? There are a few problems with this:

According to an Inernetnews article, Netcraft has confirmed that *BSD has "dramatically increased its market penetration over the last year."
There has been a steady increase in *BSD developers over the past decade.
There are currently 307 FreeBSD developers as of the 2004 core team election.

Is it any wonder people think Linux users are a bunch of flaming homosexuals when its fronted by obviously gay losers like these?! BSD has a mascot who leaves us in no doubt that this is the OS for real men! If Linux had more hot chicks and gorgeous babes then maybe it would be able to compete with BSD! Hell this girl should be a model!

Heck 5.0 was two years late. Honestly, the 5.x series is a dead end. If you are interested in FreeBSD 6.0, it is already here. Believe me, that is where it's at.

Turns out that *BSD is stronger than ever!
According to an Inernetnews article, Netcraft has confirmed that *BSD has "dramatically increased its market penetration over the last year."
There has been a steady increase in *BSD developers over the past decade.
There are currently 307 FreeBSD developers as of the 2004 core team election.

First off, i'd like to say i'm not alluding to NetBSD, or BSD, dying. However, it seems NetBSD's pace is awfully slow compared to OpenBSD and FreeBSD, or even DragonFly. NetBSD 1.6 came out September 14, 2002. Versions 1.6.1 and 1.6.2 were pretty much just security fixes.

Seems like they're being pretty stagnant. PF still won't be in 2.0, that's a shame, imho. They've managed to do a lot of superfluous activities, though; for example, they've achieved Trademark status on NetBSD, and attained 501(c)(3) tax-exemption status.

Although I like NetBSD, and think it's a wonderful project that has superb, portable code... i'd, personally, like to see more development and less superfluous activities, especially considering how expensive activities such as trademark status are. Who do they think is going to steal their title anyway? Although, if I remember correctly from a debian mailing list thread, their trademark status _did_ hinder Debian/NetBSD being released.

Poul-Henning Kamp, a FreeBSD committer, has an article up about BSD Jails as part of Queue's special report on virtual machines.

As long as he's cowriting articles, he doesn't have to maintain code he's written. Way to go!

If he keeps going, maybe he can help divert some talented developers to projects with better outlooks than FreeBSD 5.
