not sugar
HFCS is the main culprit. It's CHEAP to produce/use. If you are old enough (like me) to remember what soda-pop use to taste like with good old cane sugar, try a bottle of Dr. Pepper from the only bottling plant that still uses Imperial cane sugar. http://www.dublindrpepper.com/ Then, after tasting it, take a swig of Dr. Pepper using HFCS. You will definitely taste the difference.

Re:Boo to caffeine addiction.
Get some of this and stop worrying about HFCS.

Dublin, TX. You can buy the stuff online too.

Re:I won't be the same
A quick google of dr pepper cane sugar revealed: Dublin, TX - and they sell it online.

Re:News for Nerds...
Yes I mean sucrose, that's why I said 'sugar' and not 'sugars'.
:PAnd of course it isn't true, it was a comment not a declaration of absolute fact. Mostly because I regularly order Dublin Dr Pepper, anyone that likes Dr Pepper owes it to themselves to try some. Original recipe Dr Pepper made with, you guessed it sugar (well, sucrose but it says sugar in the ingredients because that's what most people call sugar
:P). -
Dr. Pepper with REAL sugar Re:Corn vs Sugar
If you'd like to compare, next time you see an old-fashioned bottle of soda, check and see if it's from Mexico.
No need to go past the border, the Dublin, TX Dr. Pepper bottler still uses Pure Cane sugar in the production of Dr. Pepper. You can even order it online. http://www.dublindrpepper.com/

Dublin Dr. Pepper
There is one Dr. Pepper plant in the US that still uses cane sugar. They do mail-order, but the shipping cost is makes it not worth-while for daily consumption.

Pure Cane Sugar!

Try it. The difference is astounding.
Back on topic:
People buy things for various reasons. I know many people who bought gateways because they liked the cow spots on the box. My concern is that the user experience is going to be divided. Lets say person A buys a computer which comes with the DVD burning tools. Person B buys a similar computer that does not. Person B is going to wonder why they didn't get what person A got, even though they have a new computer with Vista or whatever came on it. -
Re:tinfoil hat
I'm pretty sure corn syrup is still cheaper unsubsidized than cane sugar. I still wish cola manufactures would provide the more expensive option of cane sugar version.
You can still purchase original cane sugar Dr. Pepper at http://www.dublindrpepper.com/ -
Pure cane sugar VS corn syrup in Dr. Pepper
While pretty much every soda I've seen uses high fructose corn syrup, including Dr. Pepper, the original Dr. Pepper using pure cane sugar is still being sold in certain stores. The most obvious locations being the Dr. Pepper Museum in Waco, TX, and the bottling plant in Dublin, TX. Check google for a store carrying this near you. In my opinion, it doesn't taste any different.

Re:How 'bout some real sugar
You can still get Dr. Pepper with real sugar

Re:How 'bout some real sugar
Almost nobody has used real sugar since the 70s, $ >= taste apparently... Buy some Dublin Dr. Pepper and you'll realize (like I did being born in 83 after the switch to corn syrup) how much better it is. Corn syrup makes any soda taste like.... SYRUP. http://www.dublindrpepper.com/

Re:Cane sugar in sodas.
Dublin Dr. Pepper is the only Dr. Pepper I drink. The bottles you are starting to see in grocery stores in Austin and Dallas are the 8oz non-returnable type.
The 10oz variety are returnable, but unfortunately there is a limited supply of bottles because they are no longer mass produced; therefore some morons out there consider them collector's items. You have to return the empties to Dublin for refilling and if you want to buy a case of 10oz bottles, they won't sell them to you unless you give them a case of empties plus $15. Fortunately, I know someone at work who hooks me up.
Check them out online. -
Re:Sheesh
As far as I can tell Dr Pepper (no period) isn't bottled at all in Boston. I can't find it in a fountain anywhere except 7-Eleven. You have to got o a mahor supermarket to find cans or bottles. In fact, people look at me like I am crazy when I ask for it. I usually end up buying it on the web at Dublin Dr Pepper and that way it comes with real cane sugar instead of that corn syrup crap. Tastes much better.

Re:Is this just America?
When I lived in Dallas a couple years ago, there was a restaurant that imported Dr. Pepper from Mexico because it is made with sugar instead of corn syrup. I was very surprised at the difference in taste. The sugar version is ten times better.
The cane sugar Dr Pepper is not imported from Mexico, it's made at the Dr Pepper plant in Dublin, Texas.

Re:New Coke
Dublin Dr. Pepper is bottled in Dublin, Texas, and you can order it online from their webpage, which I just linked to, again!

New CokeMany people fail to understand exactly what it was that Coke pulled off with "New Coke". It seems to me that everyone thinks that the reason was to build marketshare (after the re-introduction of "Coke Classic" it plus "New Coke" had greater market share than Coke had before) or to simply draw attention to the brand.
I suggest a more sinister motive! The three months or so during which there was only "New Coke" allowed Coke to substitute the cane sugar previously used to sweeten Coke with corn syrup. By having a three month "pause" in the consumption of real Coke no direct head to head taste tests of pre-New Coke Coke v. Coke Classic were made. People have an almost religious devotion to Coke. The "New Coke" scandal proved this. However, the scandal was a clever distraction from what was really happening. If you buy a Coke from Mexico and compare it to a USA one you can conduct the test that they never wanted done yourself.
You will find that the Coke from Mexico has a sweet, slightly fruity flavor, compared to the starchy taste of USA Coke Classic. Everyone I have every had do a blind taste test has prefered the Mexican Coke.
So why switch? $$$$$$$$$$$ of course! Corn syrup is cheaper in the USA than cane sugar.
Most other soft drinks in the USA switched as well. You can still order REAL Dr. Pepper from Dublin Dr. Pepper and taste a real soft drink. I have sadly stopped drinking most soft drinks since I noticed that each day at 2 pm I had to have a Dr. Pepper to continue programming. I couldn't think at all. So after a headache-inducing Double Big Gulp in January I stopped cold turkey. The first week was pretty rough, but now I can actually think without resorting to chemical stimulus.
What is the point of this rambling? It is that while people react in a certain way because of "New Coke" they are having EXACTLY THE REACTION THAT THE COCA-COLA CORP WANTS! What they don't want is for you to discover that Coca-Cola Classic is not what you were drinking before "New Coke". Deviously brilliant. And we thought they were soooo stupid at the time.

Re:If you REALLY enjoyed Dr. Pepper
Since you mentioned real sugar, I'm assuming that you mean Dr. Pepper that's made in the Dublin TX plant. Correct? Did you do the test with just Dublin Dr Pepper, or did you throw in some 'normal' DP that is found in stores?
