AJAX can be fun!
I made a little window-manager-esque thing in Javascript/CSS/HTML a few weeks ago (Looks messed up in IE, works fine in Firefox)
http://dugnet.com/klown/ajwm/, all that's needed are some AJAX functions to swap out the contents of each window, instant freakish web-app thing.. -
Re:Finally I can sleep soundly
I checked. Considering it was private, the one in my bathroom wasn't okay.
If the government puts it there, though... -
ThanksI wonder what sony thinks about this...
And thanks for the breakdown of the camera. Nothing like a good dose of paranoia.
As for the pics The antenna seems to be pointing up. The range cant be very good on that thing. How close was the guys recording equipment? Was it to tape or to his computer?btw this image is probably the best one on your site.

Re:Is it really a camera?
I examined the clock, then went about finding it on the Internet at large. Here's a dissection.
As it happens, I have two X10 receivers that I got from an estate auction a couple years back. That's how I verified the camera was live and broadcasting.
(It is NOT now, I disconnected the CCD board from the transmitter before screwing the thing back together.) -
Re:give us more info
Added a picture of the front of the unit to my page.
To answer your question, the clock just didn't look right. I'm not paranoid, but apparently at least curious enough to look closely.
The clock/radio/camera had been displaced in the bathroom by a larger/better mini-stereo a week or two ago. This past weekend, it was put back up on the shelf and plugged in. That was the source of my initial curiosity.
What got me really thinking was the lack of a tuning indicator. Actually, I was trying to figure out if the holes lit up with LEDs to show approximate tuning or what, and how the tuning of the radio worked. I peeled back the sticker on the front, and noticed the 3/4"-or-so lens assembly behind the leftmost hole.
It appears the tuning indicator was one of the casualties of the conversion to a camera, though the radio itself still works fine. In the pictures, you'll also note that the space for the back-up 9V battery is taken by the transmitter. Otherwise, the clock is still as fully functional as the day it rolled off the Sony production line. -
Re:URL?
I posted that because it was the quickest way to make people understand what I was talking about. It was late and I had work in the morning. Story subissions are lame without links, and I didn't exactly feel in the mood to start building a web site around my discovery. Here's my little makeshift page with a few more details on the insides of the bastard.

Re:You're even more screwed than you think...
Okay, I'm more sure in my legal rights and responsibility now that I've talked with a lawyer.. I'm the guy who submitted the question. Want pictures of the camera taken apart to see what's inside? Here you go. Okay, hopefully that will be proof enough.
Anyhow, it's quite likely he (if he's been recording) has video of at least one female under the age of eighteen. That's one of the things I'm worried about, actually. I want him to get due punishment, but I'm not out to ruin the guy. -
Response from Lindows
Michael Robertson here - CEO of Lindows.
Let me provide some facts. In a flash tutorial hosted at Linspire.com there is a chapter which talks about Linux in which we used 3 background images from the Kde-look site by the author Mark Klown. Lindows downloaded these images from Kde-look (coincidentally - a website which Lindows financially sponsors - that doesn't affect the licensing issue). There is no creative common license indicator on the web pages that host these images.
From the email trail someone named "Jim" alerted Mark to the free flash tutorial on April 20th. Mark changed the license on his own website for the images in question to a Creative Commons license on April 25th. Then someone created a website accusing Linspire of violating the Creative Commons license and "stealing" the images. After which Slashdot prints a headline saying that Lindows is accused of violating the Creative Commons license.
Mark never contacted us saying that he had changed his license. He never contacted us saying he did not like the way the images were used. I wished he would have because this whole soap opera would have been avoided. I did send Mark email once I read the Slashdot story to get his input which is when he told me that he just recently changed the license on his website. He said he was going to put notification on his website about our situation.
It's disappointing to me because Slashdot runs this controversial headline then thousands of people read it and believe it. I think you should run the correction in the same place that you ran the original story. How about another story saying how easy it is to head-fake slashdot editors with a webpage and an email?

You're wrong
On the author's website (not the KDE look hosting of them), they are licensed using CC. For example, see Sky Bubble Tux, which is licensed using CC for Attribution Non-Commercial. Now, perhaps Lin* got this from somewhere else, but they should've search more thorougly for the author and any copyright terms before they just started using them in a commercial app. LiveCD's that are non-commercial can use it, if they give the author credit.

Screw Atkins, go Vegan
I myself am not a vegan, but my mother is. She's nearly 50 and she only requires about 5-6 hours of sleep, and is way more hyperactive than I am (I'm 20, and about 10lbs over where I'd like to be). She didn't go on the diet to lose weight or anything, just for health reasons.
I don't have the will power to do such a thing, but I know I'd be more mentally and physically active if I did.. And although the high meat intake of the Akins diet may cause people to lose weight, I know it would make me feel like crap in the long run, and give me cancer or something. I've also heard of people on the Atkins diet having real problems with energy, although most geeks don't expend much physical energy, the mental energy is still required.
utilizing low-carb methods to modify the metabolism is analogous to hacking and overclocking the body
Yeah, and overclocking often causes equipment to have a slightly shorter life span, doesn't sound good to me.
If anything I need to give up the coffee and start eating more plants.. And if anyone is interested in learning more about the diet here it is.

Blogs?Blogs are so overratted. I don't know who would take the time not only to set one up but to then actually add to it. I guess I've just never gotten the concept of writing down your inner most thoughts for others to read. A centralized location of everything personal about you at one URL. I just don't understand it at all...

HA!Funny this gets posted today. In a recent entry in my blog I made mention of the fact that I got an amplified UHF/VHF antenna. I wasn't real sure what I could pickup, but I was hoping on fox and nbc.
I found out from Tv Radio World
.com that there really isn't any part of UHF in my area that's underused. Every other channel is a fox, tbn, 3abn, abc, cbs, nbc, upn, wb channel. Granted some don't come in crystal clear, but there are quite a few channels (at least 9) that come in better than some crap cable setups.Along with the antenna I have a Dish Network Dish/Receiver setup with the America's Top 50 (few more channels than Basic cable and all the popular ones that aren't pay) for $15/month (check link for more details if you want in).
So I've got roughly 50 cable channels on the dish, 20 public interest channels (the ones that broadcast for free and don't whine when you rebroadcast them), and about 9 antenna channels for $15/month. I'm pretty content actually with what I have and the usage of the system at current. I think cable and stretching old technology will be the demise of television before underused spectrum is.

... if you really wanna see my interpretation of Beowulf ... here you go Benini Bewulfo it's an old encode, and not one of my finer works. -
Re:Screen capture showing the problem.
Some people wasted time telling you HOW to do it...I took the time to do it.

Look at that, tell me if you think it's a pretty clear illustration. I certainly do. -
Hosting $20.00Xeran is what I use. They are a linux shop that have killer bandwidth, and don't have a limit. I get 300 megs storage, unlimited pop accounts, someone who I can actually call on the phone, prompt service etc.
They don't offer telnet/ssh access with their accounts, but it's not neccessary as anything you want/need installed they do for you. You are basically free to do what you want with your service and I have yet to have a problem with them on anything. I wanted PHP4 and they installed it when they got my email and I was setup the same day I emailed them. There's other features from xeran, here's a few quick links:
Hosting plans
Reseller accounts (Basically you can host webpages through them)
They also offer co-location and dedicated server, but I don't see why you'd need that. What most everyone does with me is register a domain then they use dns from MyDomain and do a blind redirect to a subdirectory of my site. So they have their own .com and they don't pay a cent for it. If you can find somewhere that will host a free page for you, MyDomain might be all you need, they are free and do really cool things.
For Example:
Main Site (dugnet.com)
If you notice the last two look alike, but the address is different. It helps to know someone who is willing to offer some free space for sure, just ask all the moochers on my site :-) -
